Chapter One Matilda's Point of View Here it was. The day I had been dreading for so long was finally here. My grandma has been sick for a little while, and it was just a matter of time until she passed. Even though we were all expecting it and waiting for it, It was still an upsetting shock when it finally happened. My grandma pretty much raised me and my sister. Mum was always working and we didn't have a dad. It was cancer that got her. At one point we thought she was getting better, but then the hospital she was staying in called and gave us the news that she had passed away. At least she wasn't in any pain any more and according to the Doctor that rang my mother, She passed away in her sleep... I suppose that's the most peaceful way of it happening... That was some thing I guess, though it brought little comfort. She was still gone. There was a small knock at my door and my mum popped her head in. 'Its time to go, are you ready?' I nodded and took a last look at myself in the mirror before grabbing my hand bag and left the room. My sister, Ava, was meeting us there. For some reason, she had chosen to stay in a hotel while she was in town. I hadn't heard any thing from her until yesterday when she rang mum to say she had checked on. It annoyed me, Sure, we weren't that close, we never were. She was a bully and always thought she was better than every one else, but.. she was still my sister, and the woman who raised us had died, surely that warrens a bloody phone call!? In Ava's world, I guess not. She also thought it was the most appropriate thing for her to bring her boyfriend down to ''Meet the Family''. Not exactly the best circumstances to meet every one, but, I guess we should all be grateful she made time to even come home. Taking one last look at myself in the mirror, I nodded. I looked presentable. I was about to leave the room when I remembered some thing; The necklace my grandma had given me for my birthday years ago, when I was a child, I wanted to wear it. I was up till late fixing it. It was made for a child, so it was too small for me to wear now, so I had to modify it a little. Taking it off the bed side table, I laid it down in the palm of my hand and looked at it for a moment, Feeling emotional. My vision was already blurring as I stared down at the little Star pendant in my hand. Grandma always called me her special shining star, And Ava was her Moon, walking back over to the mirror, I put it on. 'Come on!'. My mother shouted from the bottom of the stairs. I sighed, rolled my eyes and grabbed my phone off my bed side table on my way out the door. 'I'm coming!'. I shouted back. Running down the stairs, Every one was already making their way out the door, I followed and closed it behind myself, but as I turned around again, I saw the hearse outside the house and instantly felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. Grandma... she-she was in there, That small wooden box, it was so... Surreal. It was like I was frozen on the spot... Until mum screamed my name again, Snapping out of it quickily, I walked to the Limo and got in just before the driver turned on the engine and we slowly started following the hearse down the street. Following us was the long line of cars as we drove towards the church. The whole time, I struggled to breathe, the lump in my throat wouldn't shift, today was going to be a very, very sad day...
