Chapter 5

Corina

    Luna Char and Alpha Zander both stand in front of me. To say I feel intimidated is an understatement. I know some bad news is coming and I just wish they would get on with “So Uh Corina.” Alpha Zander looks uncomfortable. Rubbing his hair and not making direct eye contact. I sigh as does my wolf. “I’ll pack. I can be gone in thirty minutes. I’m sorry.” I stand to leave, but both the ALpha and the Luna grab my arms. “No no no. I didn’t really think about this. I am not kicking you out. Goddess no. I’m handling this poorly." 

"Sit Corina. Look. I made your uncle rouge as you know, but I didn’t really think about what you would want to do. Obviously you can stay here. I hope that is clear. If you want to return to your old pack as you’re about of age, I can talk to your old alpha.You don’t strike me as someone who would want to be rouge..” He trails off. Luna Char looks at me, alarmed. I shake my head no. “Honey what would you like to do?” Luna Char ask. “I want to stay. At least until I meet my mate. “ I answer quietly. “Ok. OK. Are you ok to stay in that house or would you like to switch out. There is an empty cabin. Or Maybe you’d like a roommate. I’m sure one of the ladies from the domestic class would love to get a taste of freedom.” They both looked relieved with my answer. “I’ll ask Mari if maybe she would like to move in.” I inform them. “Good. Alpha Zander smiles. “We noticed some uh damage and there are some guys fixing that up. You can go back home tomorrow. Stay here tonight. I would also like the pack doctor to look you over. You know the claiming is coming in a few weeks right after your birthday. Do you plan to participate.” Do I plan to participate? IS he out of his damn mind? All I have wanted for years is to meet my mate. The claiming is the best place to do so. Of course I’m going. My wolf snorts her support. I just nod to acknowledge the alpha. I can’t believe he asked such a  silly question.  

Luna Char wraps her arms around my shoulders in almost a motherly hug. “Let’s go to the infirmary.” I see a look pass between her and ALpha Zander as we head out. Wonder what’s up with that. As we walk down the steps Luna Char turns to me with almost a hurt expression. “ I know this is probably hard to talk about. I wish you had said something, anything. Please promise me in the future if you have troubles like this you will say something. No matter if it's your mate or anyone. Pack members don’t hurt pack members.” I nod affirmation as we walk down the trail to the building. The infirmary is almost a mini hospital. Its two stories tall and has 14 exam rooms and 8 over night stay beds. We walked in the front door. “I promise.” I wanted to ease her worrying for some reason. That’s me. The people please. One of the nurses came and had a quick chat with luna then took me into an exam room.

“Ok sweetie. I need you to be honest and thorough here so I can help. I know what has happened. I need descriptions of injuries and such.” I knew they were documenting it for the royal council. Anytime someone was made rouge a report had to be given. I told her all she needed to know and the next hour was a series of xrays, pictures and documentation. When it was all done, the luna came back in. “Ready to go?” I nodded. “Dr says you will be all set to go to the claiming. Are you excited. I remember how nervous and anxious I was when it was my time. I didn’t  dream I would have an alpha for a mate, but the moon goddess saw fit. I just wanted someone kind who would love me and protect me. Is that what you’re hoping for? It is what I hope you find.” I could tell she meant it. “It is. Before, before tonight all I wanted was to meet my mate and move away.” She nodded in understanding. “Would I be correct in assuming you don’t have your dress yet?” I shook my head. “Uncle Marco would never take me when I asked.” She sighed. “Well tomorrow I would be delighted if you’d come into town and let me help you find one. It’s the least we can do.” I felt a sigh of relief because I have no real money. I am not sure what uncle left. “I would really appreciate it.” We headed into the pack house and went straight to the kitchen where two plates were waiting. We ate in a comfortable silence.  

When we finished, Luna Char lead me to a room on the ground floor. “There is a bathroom en suite. Take your time in the morning. No rush. We can talk more after breakfast.” She gave me a small hug and closed the door behind her. I found myself alone yet again.
