“Well, I want to further explain that your investment will take months or even years before it comes back to you.”
“Okay, I believe you were able to explain that the last time.”
“Oh, did I? And it will be given in the staggered form.”
“And you told that, too. Drink tea, it will relax you a bit.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
Albert almost laughed at Avalon. He knew that Avalon came to a dead end. Albert was keeping to himself the laugh and if it escapes his mouth, he would cough to hide it. But the King and Queen knew, they aren’t born yesterday and they exactly know why Avalon came.
“Avalon, Albert, have lunch with us.”
“Oh, we still have a meeting to attend to. And besides, we had late breakfast.”
Albert looked at him as if he was asking when did we have our breakfast, let’s eat here.
“Thank you so much, Your Highness.”
“Well, it’s up to you.”
Avalon just smiled at the Queen
“Your Highness, can I ask you something?”
“Sure, what is it Mr.?”
“I won’t go around the bush anymore, I would like to ask your permission, can I court your daughter?”
The Queen smiled at Avalon.
“You have some boldness there. You’re the first one to have the strength to ask.”
“I am sorry, Your Highness. But I just want to let you know that I have clean intentions on your daughter.”
The Queen smiled again at him and Avalon looked at his fingers while it fidgetted.
“Your Highness, I am a commoner and I don’t have much. I can only boast of my love for your daughter.”
“Love? You barely know her.”
“I felt something and I know I want to take care of her forever.”
“We don’t meddle with her love life although she has found somebody she thinks she likes but in another country.”
“Can I try?”
“It’s up to you. But I can’t promise anything.”
“Thank you, Your Highness. By the way, I got something for the King.”
And Avalon handed a big chocolate box to the Queen.
“Thank you so much. Alexander will be happy.”
“My pleasure, Yout Highness.”
And the Queen smiled again.
Then Avalon and Albert bade her goodbye.
When they went out of the castle vicinity. The Queen went to Alexandria, the Princess.
“Guess what happened today?”
“What, mother?”
“A guy who will be handling one of our investments on a venture asked my permission.”
The Princess smiled at her mother, the Queen.
“Okay, mother.”
“But I am not done with my story.”
And the Princess held her mother’s hand and asked her to sit by her on her bed.
“Tell me about it, mom.”
“This guy Avalon asked me and your father permission to court you.”
“Who?”
“This guy Avalon. He’s handsome and very tall. A king man.”
“He asked permission from you?”
“Yes, it’s the first and I got excited about it. I felt elated.”
“Hmmm...thrilled and funny, mother. But I have a boyfriend, mother.”
“Well, I just said he is different. Just consider. He even gave your father his favorite chocolates.”
“I will try to consider.”
Then that night Alexandria called her friend and told her about the story her mother, the Queen told her.
“Hey, that is different. Imagine he asked permission from your parents.”
“But I haven’t seen the guy yet.”
“If his looks passed your mother and she agrees, he must look okay.”
“I guess so. Hey, my cousins are coming. You want to slumber party with us?”
“Sure, when will this be?”
“I am not sure, they just. told me that they’re planning to come.”
“Okay just tell me when so I can ask permission from my parents.”
“Surely. See you, Belinda.”
“See yah, Alexandria.”
The days passed and Alexandria talked to his boyfriend to come to her birthday so they can ask her parents, the King, and the Queen if they can get married. And they agreed that her boyfriend would come.
Three days after, while Avalon was talking to the Queen about the developments of the project, the King felt bad and got sick and they called the doctor to check on him. Avalon didn’t leave them until he was sure that the King and the Queen were okay. They have a lot of people around them but he needed to know that they are alright. Something that the King and the Queen had the pleasure with and were happy about.
The next day, Avalon came again after work to check on the King. After visiting him and the Queen, he left.
“Did Avalon see Alexandria?”
“No. He came to check how you are.”
“He is different.”
“I agree. If he does that to you and me, he will take care of Alexandria.”
“Did you tell Alexandria about the guy Avalon?”
“Yes but just a little. They never really met. She doesn’t know the guy.”
“That might be hard, was it?”
“I never knew you before because our parents just paired us. The olden style for our times. Though I didn’t know you, I love you so much now.”
“I know and I am thankful for that. But not all people are the same.”
“I can talk to her one more time if I find the right time.”
“I can also talk to her, too.”
“The right time will come to both of us.”
Not a day did Avalon did not come to check on the King and the Queen. There were times he would bring something for them. There were days that he would just check on them after work.
“Alexandria, Avalon came to check on your father, the King, today.”
“Nanny Leonila, how does he look like?”
“Handsome, tall, and very kind. He cares for the King so much.”
“What does he do?”
“He just asks your mother, the Queen, if he can do something for them.”
“As the Queen would say they are fine, he would stay for awhile and he would go.”
“Does he eat here?”
“Not even once.”
“What does he do when he is here?”
“He just stands by the corner and waiting for anything he can assist your mother with.”
“Really, what does he get from it?”
“I don’t think there’s any.”
Alexandria wondered who the guy is and why he does what he does. She tried to ask other people in the castle how Avalon looks like. They all said that he was handsome and very kind that even the King’s dog knows that he is kind. It doesn’t bark at him when it always snarls at everyone who comes near the King.
The King’s condition is not improving and he is getting weaker each day. He would always call for Alexandria to stay with him. Then a day came when Alexandria was there when Avalon came to check on the King.
“Avalon, this is my daughter Alexandria.”
“Hello, sir.”
Avalon nodded on the Queen.
“Good afternoon, Your Highness.”
And he gave respect to the Princess as well.
“Good afternoon, Your Highness.”
Then Avalon stood at the side as he waits for any command of the Queen. But the Queen can see that Avalon stealthily looks at the Princess. The Queen knows how Avalon loves her daughter.
