CHAPTER 7: Adopted.

1205 Words
Max I am just bored, I am so used to Laura so bad. The day has been so long, I lied to Laura that I will be bringing John over, but in real sense there is no one by the name John. He is just made up, I just didn't want my friend to think that I would be lonely without her. I was even tempted to go next door to Liam, but I remembered my friend has her eyes on him. He is the first guy Laura has shown interest in after a really long time. So, I don't want to blow up things for her. Ever since I met Laura in school, she has been always there for me and with me. That is why it is so hard being away from her. I have just finished my super now I want to go to bed, but not before I finish this episode of Dynasty, my favorite drama series. I suddenly hear a slight knock on the door, I assume it's for my hot neighbor since I am not expecting anyone. So, I just ignore it, but the person knocks again, this time louder. “Who wants to disturb me at this time of the night, I swear I will…” I stop talking immediately I see who it is. It is my friend Laura, she looks devastated, her eyes all puffy. She just falls into my arms, I lead her inside as I don't want hot Liam to see her like this. “What is wrong, my darling.” I ask in a concerned voice. “Just hold me, Max, I need you.” She says. I hold her, and she cries freely into my arms. I wonder who upset her this much. Furthermore, I have never seen her this way before. This must be really serious. “They don't want me, Max, both of them." She says amidst sobs. “Who is that darling.” I ask in a low voice. “My parents.” She says, breaking into another sob. “Why, they are your parents, there is no way they don't want you." I say. “They are not.” She says. “They are not what.” I ask. “They are not my real parents. I am adopted.” She breaks down, saying that. “Hey, look at me.” I say to her, breaking the hug and making her look at me. She looks at me with pitiful eyes, she is really hurt. “It doesn't matter Laura whether you are adopted or not. You are great and I love you so much. And it's not that they don't want you, if they didn't, they couldn't have adopted you, Laura.” I say to her. “They said it with their own mouth, they practically threw me out of the house. My dad couldn't even say a thing.” Laura says. “Then f**k them, I want you, I am here for you Laura. I am your brother, your family. If they don't want you, then it's their loss. Don't you dare cry for people who don't want you.” I say to her firmly. She nods. “ Now smile for my darling.” I add, smiling while wiping her tears. She smiles weakly. “That's my Laura.” I say hugging her. I sigh, thinking of how she is feeling, I wouldn't want to be in her shoes right now. It must hurt like hell, the people you thought were your parents turn out to not to be. I cannot imagine finding out that I am adopted. She is really strong. “Thank you, Max.” Laura says, breaking the hug and looking at me. “For what?” I ask. “For always being there for me. I wouldn't know what I would do without you.” She says to me. “Of course Laura. Now stop with the drama before you make me cry.” I say, wiping a small tear threatening to escape from my eyes. “Now go freshen up because you look like actual s**t.” I say, trying to lighten the mood. “Okay sir, I will be there in a while.” She says, heading to our shared bathroom. I decide to prepare some pancakes for her since we have no food in the house which is ready. And pancakes are easy to make, I hate complicated stuff. After some minutes she comes back, she now looks good, clean, and her eyes are almost okay now. She is so good at hiding her problems. “B***h, I am starving.” She says in a jovial tone, but still, I can detect the sadness in there. She is just acting strong. I will help her any way I can to make her okay. It's the little I can do for her, since she has always been there for me. She even helped me pay for my last year school fees in college. She had to save all her allowance just for me. That is why I love her so much. “I know that is why I made this.” I say, gesturing to the pancakes. She looks at them for a moment, then she begins to laugh. “And if I may ask, why are you laughing, Missy.” I ask, pretending to be upset. “Pancakes, really Max.” She says, still laughing. “What is wrong with my pancakes, huh?” I ask. “It's not breakfast, for goodness’ sake.” She says, still laughing. “Then I will eat them all by myself.” I ask, still faking being upset. “No, I will eat. I appreciate you, Max. I was just kidding, okay.” She says, hugging me from the side and kissing me on the cheek. “Now let's eat.” She adds, picking the plate full of pancakes and setting them on the table. I follow her, we eat to our fill. I am just glad that she was able to eat well. She tells me about the mysterious hot guy, I mean Liam. How he helped her, she laughs at how weird she behaved with him. “So he was the first to console you.” I ask. “Don't be jealous, Max, I didn't tell him anything.” She says. “But I might have blown my chance with him, though." She says, looking down in shame. “Don't worry about that, this is the exact reason you have me in your life. Leave that to me, and you will not regret it.” I say to her. She smiles gratefully. “Alright, I will take your word for it.” She says. We chat for a while before we head to bed. She says she cannot stay alone, so we sleep in her bed. She says that she cannot sleep in mine because it always has a weird smell. I feel so bad for Laura, I promise myself to always be there for her. I will never leave her side. I will stay with her until the time she finds true happiness, that is when I will leave Laura.
