Chapter One - Married Life

1233 Words
Asher's P.O.V "Would you stop already Kate, I just got in the damn door." I groaned out. I had just walked in the door from a long assed day from work, and she had already started, but that was nothing unusual for her. She spent her days getting on at me. Her being my wife of two years, she never used to be this way. Yes, she was always a little nippy at times, but it was like as soon as we got married she changed completely, she turned a little crazy. "Well, you are always damn late." She hissed. "I can't help it, Kate, you know how busy I get." I sighed. I had no energy to argue with her tonight. All I wanted to was come home get a shower, a large Scotch and sit down and have a nice dinner with my wife but no, she can't do that. Instead, she would rather start an argument over nothing. Yes, I work a lot, I work late a lot, but I don't have a choice. I need to if we want to keep the life we have. Yes she is high maintenance in a way, she always has been, and that never bothered me though. I don't mind giving her the best of everything, she was my wife, and I don't mind looking after her, well at first. Now not so much because she is so ungrateful. She moans I work too much but refuses to get her own job so I can cut my hours down, she can't have it all if she isn't willing to put the effort in. Yes, I love my wife. I have done since I was nineteen, though the way she is now? I am not sure how much longer I can take of it. I can't find it in myself to end an eight-year relationship just like that. It is not who I am, but at the end of the day, we all have our breaking points. "Yes that is what you tell me, you are probably screwing someone else." She hissed.  Another thing she likes, to accuse me of every other day. The thing is I don't know why she even thinks that I have never cheated on her. I never would, and the fact that she thinks I would do that to her makes me wonder if she knows me at all. "This again? Are you f*****g serious right now?" I snapped at her.  "I wouldn't put it by you. We aren't exactly been having s*x. You must be getting it somewhere, we all know how much you love fucking." She hissed.  She was right; we haven't had s*x in months which is not like us. The two of us used not to be able to keep our hands off each other, at it all at one time; now she barely even kisses me. "You are the one that doesn't want me, Kate. You are the one that barley even kisses me now, but you don't see me accusing you of cheating on me, do you? You are the one showing signs of cheating Kate, yet you don't hear me accusing you of it, do you?" I said, running my hands through my hair.  "How f*****g dare you?" She snapped. How dare I what? Tell her I don't think she would cheat on me? "You know what forget it, Kate. Anything I say you go off in one and find a reason to keep the argument going." I said my voice calm; I never wanted to rise to her. "I do not stop making me out to be a bitch." She hissed, stomping her foot.  "I am out of here," I said, shaking my head. I needed to get away from her even for one night because I honestly can't take much more of this from her. "Let me guess going to that f*****g little skanks house." She growled. The little skank she was referring too? My best friend Callie, the one I have been best friends with since I was three years old. "Don't f*****g call her that Kate?" I hissed. I was very protective of Callie. I always have been, and I hate when she talks about her like that, she knows that and that is why she does it. "You always take her side over me. And you still trying to tell me you aren't f*****g her?" She said. "Think about what you want, you always do. I will see you when I see you." I said.  I grabbed my things, heading for the front door, walking out and slamming it behind me. I took a moment to breathe in the fresh air, taking the moment of silence in before getting into my car, heading over to Callie's place. She stayed twenty minutes away from me. I always ended up at hers when Kate was this way. Callie always made me feel better. It was just the kind of person she was; you couldn't help but smile when in her company. She was sort of a wild and free soul. She always has been. I wasn't sure if she was home from work yet, but I have a key, so if she isn't, I would just wait for her. Kate was blowing up my phone as I drove. I ignored her calls because I knew she was only calling to continued arguing with me. I pulled up outside Callie's apartment block, deciding to switch my phone off for a few hours before I end up throwing it away. I headed in, trying her door which was unlocked, telling me she was home. "Callie?" I called out. "Kitchen Asher," She called back.  I made my way through to her kitchen, as soon as I walked in, she turned to me, taking one look at me and let out a sigh.  "Kate?" She asked. "Yup. She started as soon as I walked in the door. The usual crap you are always working. You are always late. You are screwing someone else; you are screwing Callie; you know the usual?" I said.  Callie and Kate got on at first, though the longer Kate and I were together the more she started turning on Callie, trying to get me to cut her out of my life which is something I would never do for anyone, not even my wife. Callie meant too much to me. She has always been there for me, no matter what. She doesn't let it bother her. If Kate is around, she smiles and is polite towards her no matter what Kate does or say. "I am sorry buddy. Come here." She pouted, reaching her arms out for me.  I smiled at her, stepping into her and she wrapped her arms around me, pulling me tightly into her chest. I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her back and straight away. I started feeling better. We pulled apart after a moment.  "You hungry?" She smiled. "Very, never even had a chance to eat before she started on me. What are you making? It smells delicious." I said, licking my lips, she was such a fantastic cook.  "Chicken casserole…your favourite." She said, smiling widely at me. "Yeah!" I said excitedly. "Then maybe we can go out, have a few drinks…hit up the club?" She said. "Sounds good. I could be doing with a night out." I said.  It was Saturday tomorrow which meant no work so I can go out and have a good night, take my mind off everything for the night, worry about all that in the morning.
