Nate POV
My sister’s wedding was approaching, only a few days were missing, and that evening the young lady had decided to give a party at our parents' house. She called the caterer, a band, and set up a dance floor.
She decided to do something big.
I fixed my black tie as my suit and pants, and I went down the steps leading to the garden. I hated getting dressed up for these stupid parties, all to fill Jess' huge ego, I didn’t want to be part of this either, but when she announced it in our office to all our colleagues, she approached me and smiled at me maleficially.
"Do you know who’s gonna be there?" she asked me to look me right in the eyes, those damn green eyes that seemed to be able to read your mind.
"No, Jess, I don’t know." I said, looking up.
Jess’s smile had widened, as had the evil glitter in her eyes, her hands resting on the wooden table in front of me and looking straight at me.
"May May." she said before turning her heels and going back to where she had come from, leaving me stranded there.
And so now I was there, in that stupid suit, in the midst of all those people I didn’t know and I wasn’t sure they knew my sister.
What you don’t do for your sister.
My colleagues, and drinking buddies, were hunting, looking around among the girls, continuing to make un-chivalrous appreciations of each of them. I grabbed a glass of wine and stood beside them as I watched my sister flaunt her solitary to anyone, clinging to poor Andrew’s arm, reclaiming what was her property.
Poor man.
Jess was happy and cheerful, even more so in these recent days. That it was due to the return of the missing Maya? She didn’t mention her at all, she wouldn’t normally stay and do nothing but talk and talk for hours and hours and hours, I wanted her to! But, still, nothing, she was so stubborn to shut up.
But I couldn’t deny that she was super cheerful, she danced all day from one side of the office to the other, and she was kind to everyone, which was unusual for her, given her commitment to assert her position.
Jess had always been convinced that she, being a woman, would have to work twice as hard to make her way in the world of the legislature. I didn’t think it. Jess was good and she would have succeeded because she was the best of all of us.
"Hot bomb at three o'clock." said Josh next to me.
I didn’t even notice him, as I kept noticing the joy my sister gave off.
"God! That is what I call beautiful legs!" said Chris, "Imagine them around your hips."
"Look at the b**bs,” Zeke commented.
So I turned my eyes to their target and was almost petrified.
Maya.
She appeared in all her beauty. She was wearing a blue dress with a deep V-neck in front, a band that girded her hips, and a light skirt that went up to her knee. Her light brown hair was curled and she gently descended on a shoulder, making her refined.
The long legs ended in a pair of black décolleté that made her even more slender if that were possible.
I almost dropped my jaw looking at her.
The grey eyes were slightly trigged and highlighted even more the color of the iris.
Next to her was Lucas, to whom she clung quietly as they both looked in one direction and laughed softly.
"She’s already taken." Zeke commented.
"It’s Lucas, at the very least they’re going to be each other’s wingmen." Josh commented.
"She’s mine!" Chris said immediately.
I clenched my jaw. His?
"Hey, I saw her first!" Josh said immediately.
"The slower one loses." Zeke replied, heading for Lucas and Maya.
My blood was about to boil. How could they even suggest that Maya was like one of the many b****ies that passed between them? Before one of those pricks got close to her, I stepped forward and approached them.
Lucas and Maya were talking to each other as they looked around.
"Maya." I said as I approached and drew their attention.
They both froze and looked at me.
"Lucas." I added, nodding to the guy who looked at me like he wanted to eat me, Lucas always had a soft spot for me.
"It’s good that you’re back," I said on the way back.
Maya was a bit surprised, but immediately her gaze became sweeter, almost my legs gave way to those eyes, almost.
"Hey, Nate." she said gently as she approached and deposited a slight kiss on my cheek.
The part that she touched with her soft and kind lips started to burn. Immediately I was struck by her scent, intoxicated by that sweet smell I could only dream of, closed my eyes and took a deep breath. What was I, 15?
Maya walked away and clung to Lucas again as a scream reached us, I already knew who that ugly harpy belonged to. You couldn’t stay where you were?
"May May!" chirped Jess as she approached and squeezed her in a hug "Finally!" she cheerfully said, "Where is Axel?" she looked around.
Axel?
"Oh Lucas picked me up directly from the hospital, I’m sure he’ll be here with my mother soon." Maya replied quietly.
I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Maya was no longer a child, she seemed much more mature, more adult, although she was only twenty-three years old, her attitude was different. Everything in her was different, more attractive, more hot and sensual and my c**k agreed with me.
"Well, I can’t wait to see him in his suit. I’m sure Axel will look great," my sister said.
"Axel?" I asked doubtfully as Maya shook her head almost exasperated.
"Oh, he’s just the man in May May’s life," Jess said in peace with her usual evil twinkle in her eyes.
I almost dropped my jaw in a surprise.
Obvious.
Of course, Maya wasn’t alone.
Who would have let someone like her escape? No one in their right mind would have done it, I certainly wouldn’t have done it.
And yet, I did. The one time she was mine I didn’t even remember, I was the biggest i***t of the idiots.
"Stop it, Jess." Maya said.
"Come, Mama wants to see you again," said my harpy sister, dragging her away from me.
Damn.
"Do you know the s*x bomb?" Josh asked behind my back.
My shoulders automatically stiffened, and I watched him watch Maya and Jess chatting with my mother "She’s my sister’s best friend." I said, almost with narrow teeth.
"Uh and you never introduced her?" Zeke asked.
"She is off-limits for everyone. If I see you even breathing in her direction I will snap your neck." I said menacingly.
My colleagues looked at me surprised but I did not give him time to replicate that I moved away, while my eyes I remained glued on Maya who spoke cheerfully with my mother.
*****************
Some time passed and I had not lost sight of Maya even for a moment. I kept looking for her with my eyes as if she were a magnet for me. I had swallowed the third glass of wine but I noticed that Maya had not touched a drop of alcohol.
The girl I knew didn’t have to be asked twice and was always the first to party between rivers of alcohol and others.
What happened to her? I approached her again, since she was alone again with Jess and Lucas, with an excuse of course.
"Where is Andrew?" I asked my sister while I kept looking at Maya, who in the meantime, was looking around for someone.
Probably the man of his life, Axel.
I didn’t know the guy, but he was probably an asshole to let Maya so alone all this time, easy prey for the eyes of someone else. Like mine.
"Somewhere" Jess replied without even looking around "Do you know that Andrew and Maya work in the same department?" my sister told me.
"Really?" I asked looking at Maya.
"Oh yes, it’s strange having Andrew give you orders all the time and yet he’s very bossy, all the nurses hang on his lips at every word." Maya said without realizing it.
Lucas moved too late to keep her mouth shut, but my sister had already stood up like a watchdog.
"What?" she asked in an icy tone.
Maya opened her eyes wide and looked at Lucas for help while he held his hand over her mouth. Only a miracle could save her at that moment and apparently that miracle had arrived because Maya looked over our shoulders and saw how her gaze became full of pure love, her eyes shone gently.
"Hey, you licked my hand!" complained Lucas moving his grip.
"My mother is here." said Maya sweetly.
Jess immediately turned and ran in that direction. Followed closely by Maya and Lucas. I also turned my back, not understanding what was happening, just to see my sister tear from the arms of Mrs. Sheppar, a little bundle with ash blond hair that covered his delicate head.
I was stunned by it.
I didn’t understand anything anymore. I remained motionless while my sister was kissing the little boy who had three months maximum. Maya approached her parents and deposited a kiss on her father’s cheek before turning to the child who, as soon as he saw her, glowed and screamed, reaching out his arms towards her direction and reclaiming her.
Maya immediately attracted him to him by kissing him gently as the child gloated in her arms.
I raised my eyebrows more and more confused and looked at the child better. It was the spitting copy of Maya, except for the lighter eyes and hair. Everything about that baby was screaming Maya and almost my legs gave out.
A child?
