Prologue
Jessica POV
Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to be a Genetics. Even my mom told how instead of play with barbies and dolls, I would go and play with medical instruments. I know that it is weird for a child to want to always want to play with medical instruments instead of dolls (you aren’t the only one) there were a lot of kids who thought so too. I was usually the loner type until I got into high school. That’s where I meet my best friends Cassidy and Miranda.
Cassidy is this 5′6 beauty. She has this red, thick, and wavy hair, with these beautiful green eyes to dye for. A figure to dye for. She was the most social one out of all of us. She was in track, basketball, and she played volleyball. She was also in the Student government and became our senior class president in high school. It didn’t surprise me when we all decided to go to the same college that she was going to be apart of a sorority. She is studying, Cultural Anthropology and International Studies. She wants to be a lawyer working for the UN.
And there is Miranda. Let me tell you she was a natural beauty. I was the envy of how beautiful she was. Although she is one of my closest friends and was also a pre-med major with me, everything came naturally to her and I was jealous of her. She didn’t even have to try. She was about 5′8, brunette, perfectly manicured nails, olive skin, green eyes, she spoke 3 different languages (that she learned on her own) and when it came to school, school just came naturally to her. At first, I didn’t want to like her. I wanted to hate her but she was damn sure to be persistent. I hated that about her. Eventually, she wore me down and I realized she was an actual cool girl. Now she has become one of my best friends and she is willing to move to North Carlione with me to attend Duke University.
Today was graduation day and I was excited to get the f**k out of John Hopkins University. Don’t get me wrong, I love the school and the programs that they had, especially the program that I had but the memories that I had going her wasn’t the best for me. Both of my girls can tell you that. There was a lot that was going on at that time, and that is a story for another day. I was just happy to be graduating, with the honors, having really good MCAT scores, and knowing that I have gotten into my dream school.
Once my name was called I couldn’t hold my tears and smile back. I looked at the general direction on where my parents were sitting and give them a thumbs up and give them a wave. I was excited to know that I made them proud and made myself proud. I finally finished and gave them something to be proud of.
Colton POV
I know many of the people in the United States consider me a bad boy or playboy but I don’t look at it that way. Yes I know I love to have s*x, party, and get tattoos. I never let those ever get in a way of anything. I still do well and ever since I got into Duke’s law program, I couldn’t be any happier. I know that I made my dad very happy. All he can talk about me taking over his company once I am done with this program. I didn’t mind either. I was excited to be getting out of Texas. I couldn’t stand being there anymore. Don’t get me wrong all the women down there were beautiful and the parties were great but it was my time to leave and have some other place to conquer. It was my time to shine somewhere else.
“Colton lets get the f**k out of here,” Knox said. Knox has been my friend since we were a child. I can consider him as one of the closest friends I had and the most real person I have meant. He was one of the only people who didn’t see me as another person who wanted to use me for money. I appreciated that from him. He also decided that he wanted to go into law school also after our stint in jail. It’s not what you think, it was all a misunderstanding and we had all of our charges dropped and our records cleaned but ever since then he decided that he wanted to go into law school so that he can help the little man.
That’s another reason why our friendship was always so good. He had such a big heart and such a softy. Don’t get me wrong. He can beat the s**t out of you if he wanted to, I learned it the hard way. Yes both he and I are both 6′5, we fill in nicely. especially since our high school, scrawny days. We both have brown hair, but he has brown eyes and I have more of the hazel eyes. He grew up in more of the rougher side of our home city, where I grew up on the richer side. That never changed though. He never looked at me differently though and I as for him. He got along with my dad especially. My father always told me that he was a good influence on me. So when he heard that he was also going to Texas A&M with me, he was excited that he funded his whole college. Now that we both got into Duke’s law school, we were happy to leave. We were in a new adventure.
“I’m coming,” I called out. I looked at our empty apartment once more. I had a big smile on my face. I closed the door, and said to myself, ’here are to new beginnings.
