Chapter 7- Burns

Scarlet's P.O.V
His hand wrapped around the bare skin on my back, his fingers round my waist burning my skin.
I flinched as he touched my skin.
It was almost like he was burning me.
"So English" he growled in my ear
"Tonight is the first night of us, so remember we have been together two years and are getting married next fall if anyone asks." he whispered in my ear
I sighed and continued to listen trying not to get distracted by my surroundings
"Also we met in California and we both love horror movies and we love each other very much, got it?" he said
I rolled my eyes and looked around.
"I've got to introduce you to a few people English, come this way" he pulled me through the crowd, may fingers interlaced in his own.
I scowled at him and walked along
He stopped and placed his lips right onto my ear making me flinch.
"Play nice" he growled sternly
I frowned in anguish but also a weakness came over my body as his hot breath fanned over my neck.
"Ah Lucian, how lovely to see you again" said a voice from behind us.
And so it began.
"Ah Nicolas, Mirabelle I was looking for you earlier" smiled Lucian turning around to face the people who had spoken.
Nicolas was tanned and blond, quite young looking and reminded me of someone but I couldn’t think who.
Mirabelle was short and had long dark hair and looked about eight months pregnant.
"Oh Mira, I forgot you were pregnant" said Lucian
"So did I" grinned Nicolas
Mirabelle slapped him across the arm and smiled at me.
"Oh Nicolas, Mirabelle I’d like you to meet Miss Scarlet Hyde, soon to be Mrs Cullon actually" said Lucian
"Oh so this is your fiancée, Lucian spoke so fondly of you earlier" said Nicolas
I blushed slightly and smiled
"Earlier?" I asked
"Oh yes I forgot" said Lucian "This is Nicolas, he is Jean who you met earlier's son, he is going to be helping me lead the new deal between my company and his fathers" Lucian said
Mirabelle cleared her throat
"Oh and this is his very pregnant wife, Mirabelle" said Lucian
"I’m eight months" she smiled at me
"Oh and by the way just call me Mira" she smiled
Nicolas smiled down at her and put a hand on her bump protectively.
"You need to have a drink; common Mira lets go get you something to drink" said Nicolas
"Oh Nicolas you do make such a fuss" said Mira
"Bye y'all" said Nicolas pulling his wife through the crowd.
Lucian an I spent the rest of the night making random small talk with people who were all so different, yet all the same to me.
It was probably nearing about midnight when the room started to clear out as people left.
We stood in the middle by ourselves for a while until someone spoke behind us.
"Oh Lucian, I didn't recognise you" said a voice
We turned around
"Ah Jennifer, Alec, how brilliant to see you" said Lucian smiling graciously at them.
He was tall, curly hair and older then her.
She was blond, very blond and a trophy wife if ever I saw one.
"And who is this?" said Alec inclining his head towards me.
"I'm Scarlet Hyde, Lucian's fiancée" I smiled
I said it so sincerely that I almost fooled myself.
"Oh Lucian, I didn't know you were engaged" said Jennifer
"Yeah, Scarlet and I are getting married some time next fall" Lucian smiled.
It was weird, hearing him call me Scarlet instead of his usual growl of 'English'
"Oh how wonderful, we got married in the fall and it was just perfect" Jennifer smiled warmly at me then at Alec
he gave her back a glowing smile.
Maybe I had been too quick to judge, maybe she was a trophy wife but she certainly seemed to love him, the way she looked at him was something I'd never seen before.
He looked right back at her the same exact way, and it was beautiful.
"So Lucian, how is the deal with USF going?" asked Alec
"Ah well, as this is the celebration of the partnership between USF and Acute.Cullon you would think it was going quite well but you know me Alec" smiled Lucian.
Alec grinned and looked over at me
"I don't know how you put up with him Miss Hyde, he is such an arse" smiled Alec.
"To be honest I don't know why I put up with him either, but its not like I get payed to or anything" I said in a panic
I face-palmed myself in my brain
Lucian stood on my foot and grinned at Alec and Jennifer trying to cover up my stupid rambling panic.
"Oh Ladybug you are so silly" said Lucian kissing me on the cheek
I flinched slightly as his lips scorched the skin on my face.
"Oh don't be silly Lucian, give her a proper kiss" said Jennifer
"Yes Lucian kiss her properly, we won't look" teased Alec
I looked at the floor and Lucian shook his head
"Alec, not right now there are so may people and we don't believe in displaying are affection publicly like that" muttered Lucian darkly
"Oh shut up Lucian you are such a stick in the mud, give her a kiss" said Jennifer impatiently.
Lucian sighed heavily
"Oh no we couldn't, not here" I started to say but my lips were captured in a red hot mixture of lips and saliva.
Too long he lingered, burning my lips as adrenaline pulsed through me as our lips touched, but when he drew back slowly I wanted him to stay.
"Ahh, how lovely" said Jennifer
"Very" smiled Alec
"We must get going, its getting late" said Jennifer
Here and Alec walked of arm in arm toward the door.
"Well played" I whispered to Lucian
"Who said I was playing" he growled back.
