"Don't tell me that you are still sleeping at this time of the day Bethany?' He asked but the gaze that he was been given, made him swallow the saliva that was in his throat and he cleared it too at once. " What are you doing here Austin, and why were you banging on my door as though you were on a life support machine wanting to wish me goodbye?" Bethany inquired walking out of there to the kitchen to drink some water and Austin, having a smile on his face told his sister that he had two great news for her. "Shoot, I am listening." Bethany voiced out before drinking her glass of water. "Okay, firstly, I think I know how you can meet my boss, and secondly, I think I have an idea of where you can rent a house though I don't know if it will be cheap." "Really?" Bethany asked in joy with her hand dropping down the cup and she nodded. It was a very happy moment for her and all she could think of was the possibility of her moving out from where she was living and taking off away from her toxic landlord. "We are having a gathering though I don't know if Dr. Chris will be there. But knowing how much he loves his colleagues and friends if we insist he will be there and then you can give him your documents." "This is really. good cousin. I love you so so much for this." "Oh my gosh, get away from me you pervert." Austin let out like he always did and that made them both laugh out so loud as he had the habit of always doing that whenever his cousin kisses him. Ernest and his wife Helen were already at Christian place to talk with him about a surgical matter but Brenda was not yet there and they were waiting for her. "How is your love life with Brenda going? Won't you be a man and call the shots Chris?" Ernest asked eating the biscuits that were on the table but Helen knowing how annoying her husband can be, slapped his shoulder as she asked him to stop teasing Chris. "One of these days, I will certainly beat the hell out of you," Chris said, laughing out. "But come to think of it. That lady, is madly I love with you and it is written all over her man. All she needs now is for you to say the magic word and every other thing will flow accordingly." Ernest pressed on. It was no secret to him that she loves him so much since their university days, but he could not reciprocate that love she was giving to him because he had another woman in his heart and all he needed to do was to find her so that she could complete him forever. Just as they were chatting and laughing, the bel went out and Ernest, giving his friend a teasing stare, accompanied it with a smile which explained a lot of things. Brenda was there and he had to unlock the door for her so that they could get going for the even. "Good morning and thank you for the delay," Sophie said twisting her face at the delivery man for coming to deliver her seafood late but what was even more nerving, was the fact that he did not have the courtesy to even carry it inside. "What am I supposed to do now?" She questioned herself alone and just as she was contemplating what to do, Adrian came in from behind and without asking whether or not she needed his help, he lifted the box of seafood and asked, "Where do I drop it?" But Sophie being shocked at the fact that he could be that nice, stood there with her mouth and eyes widely opened without having any word come out of them. "Yes, sir, I will make sure not to lose this opportunity." Bethany was happy after getting the extra good news from her boss and jotting down the contact number that was given to her she mumbled, "Let me see how you will escape from me today, Dr. grumpy." Hanging up two phones, Alex was pleased to have booked an appointment for her and she had to meet with him not too far from the event. Time was passing after Bethany had made the call and she needed to be there before he gets there. Chris was already nearby and he had to just get to his favorite place which happens to be a place of great souvenirs to him. He was always a mixed feeling whenever he had to go there but again, for so many years, he had been visiting that playground even when he used to be abroad and comes back home. The downpour had begun and though it was not that serious he still had to get an umbrella to hide under luckily for him since it was a rainy season, a truck man selling umbrellas was passing by and he immediately grabbed one and on walked out of there to have a better shade, Chris found a lady who was running away from the rain and being a generous man, he covered her up with and she turned out to be the person he had seen in his office and she was the one he had to meet up with. "Good day doctor Chris, I am here too...." "Where is the document?" He cut me rudely. Bethany felt somehow funny but she handed her documents to him and seeing him walk away after taking them, she decided to complete her sentence so she said, "My name is Bethany Wales, and I will appreciate it if you become my supervisor." Listening to what she had said, Chris felt as though his legs had become heavy and he could not move anymore. "Bethany wales?" He inquired taking a step backward and the first thing he did was to throw down the umbrella while taking up her hair to check on the scar that was on the left side of her head. Baffled, Bethany stood still in shock not knowing what was going on but the next thing she heard was him saying, "It is you I have been waiting for all these years." ###Chapter 4 4 Bethany Wales couldn't believe her eyes, that she standing in front of Christian Morgan. Her heart pounded against her chest so much that she couldn't breathe. She quickly thought about the time when he didn't want her when she chased after him and what did he get in return? nothing at all. "What is the matter?" she asked her voice shaky. It had dawned on her who this young man was now, but she felt it right to deal with him a little, just to let him know that she can as well mess around with him. Chris held his breath for a second, if he was going to say something tangible to break the ice between him and the lady, then, it rather is something tangible because Bethany isn't happy with him. It was still raining, they were in it, and when he blinked to maintain his gaze on the lady's face, he noticed that she had Pearls of raindrops touching her face. It was funny how he hadn't known it was her all this while. "I am Christian Morgan, the guy from high school whom you defended," Chris said trying to make the situation a little more awkward than it looked. He failed woefully because the young lady kept her blank gaze on his face. It wasn't helping at all. Seconds ticked and Bethany decided to talk. "Maybe you just be mistaken me for someone else," Bethany scolded out. She hadn't figured it out until now who this Dr. Chris of a guy was, but now that he does, it became a very sharp pain to her. He realized those big blue eyes were like the sea, it was the brightest he had ever seen. And all that body fat was gone, she wrecked her mind how she would have noticed this man if he looked ten times younger than he is now, and had curly hair instead of strained black hair. They didn't say anything else, and from afar, Bethany held a ladylike voice, calling out to Chris. "Christian? Are you alright?" the lady called out repeatedly. Blinking severally and trying to focus on the present, Chris swirled his head around and was surprised to see Brenda calling out his name as he stood at the porch of the hospital beckoning to him. His first impulse was to rush to her side, but then, he remained Bethany and swirled his head around to talk to her, which wasn't going to help her. A bolt of thunder stroke and he watched how Bethany shrieked in her position. Without another word, he left the lady's side carrying her file in his hand. Taking the stairs two at a time, he managed to get to the top level and Brenda, as if sensing something awkward, threw her hands over his neck and kissed him. Christian didn't know why kissing Brenda was so awkward, he felt her pushing herself closer to him, that must be very awkward, the manner in which he let it roll off that way was so demeaning, and thus, he provided a show for Bethany Wales to watch. "Good morning, darling," Brenda said finally breaking off the kiss. "What was that for?" Christian asked his eyes widening, and he looked as shocked as the lady was. In any other circumstance, this would have been some pleasurable s**t, he would even have clapped for Brenda, but, knowing deep in him that he had a readymade audience, he didn't want to appear so rude. Brenda chuckled, blushed, and muttered faintly. "Yuck! Chris, you can't be this wet, you better get dry if not, you might catch a cold," she uttered cheekily as she went about in a way that he could only stare at her with ultimate shock. Taking a deep breath, he looked behind him hoping to see Bethany there, but he was so shocked that she was gone. He felt disappointed at first, but he knew that it was for the best. * If there was anything Bethany Wales was so afraid of, then it was thus battle she has started with herself, she had openly lied to Chris that she wasn't the lady he thought he was, but then, things wouldn't be the same now, she was nothing but a pathetic liar whom life has taken a hard turn over her. She walked into the hallway where she stood holding herself, shivering from too much cold. She had witnessed the kiss between Chris and that strange lady, she wondered if they were dating. 'They must be dating," she said to himself. Bethany was in the workspace she was supposed to share with other interns, they were about six to nine of them in the hall, but she didn't care to know who was whom because they were all other internships, they had their purpose and so did she. Signing lightly, she wrecked her brain a little weirdly, making it snap up in an inactive way when she heard her name being called over a released speaker. "Ms. Bethany Wales, report to Doctor Morgan's office," That was it, Bethany looked around in embarrassment, hoping that no one had heard it, but damn, everyone did, but no one seemed to have her time. It seemed like it was just her thing, she couldn't control how she felt as she walked out of the room and crossed the hallway leading into Chris's office. She knocked once as her cousin Austin had told her to do and when she entered, she gasped. Christian had a towel over his black hair, he had worn warmer clothes, so she guessed she had warmer clothes to change into. He was clad in black trousers and a white shirt who he tucked it into his trouser. If there was an identification for beauty, then it should be this man because he was so hot that Bethany had to sniffle a little to act sober.
