I was surprised by how easy it was to tell Connor about my meeting with Emily. What surprised me even more was Connor’s openness. I knew that something must have happened to him recently, but I would never have imagined that.  All of his weird behaviors begin to make so much more sense. Like the way that he disappears, the shutters that seemed to close down around him, and his eagerness to rent out his lower level.  We sit side-by-side for a while longer, his arm resting over my shoulder and me leaning into him a bit. Despite the little cuddling that is occurring, it doesn’t feel romantic.
