STANDING in the second step of the portable ladder, Carmen placed the books back on the second to the last shelf on top. She was on the far side of the library at the moment.
It was the section for the recipe books, home decorations, etc.
She was on the last book. She was pushing it in between two thick ones when she felt knees shaking. She yelped in panic.
Expecting herself to fall off like a sack of potatoes on the floor, she was flabbergasted to see that she was enclosed in the arms of grinning Prima.
“I got you.”
Her eyes widen when she finally realized their situation. She was in the arms of another woman who was carrying her like a bride. And, the short skirt that she was wearing has ridden up.
“Put me down now. Please.”
Slowly, Prima helped her to her feet. Carmen straightened her clothes especially her pencil-cut skirt that pulled up in the middle of her thighs.
When Carmen turned to Prima, she was placing the last book on the upper shelf. She did not use the ladder.
“I didn’t know that you’re coming.” She started.
“Didn’t I told you I’ll be here today?”
“I don’t remember.”
The teenager pouted at her response. She left Prima and went back to the trolley that has the other books that she was about to put back on the shelves in another section.
It was Friday again. Often on this day, the borrowers sent back the books that they borrowed from the library to get another set. On the days like these, Carmen stayed at work after six PM compared to the other days of the week. Though habitually, she was on her way home at 6:05.
The library assistant or part-time workers stayed only until five every day. Whatever was left to do, Carmen finished them until she clocked out at six.
Prima was behind her when she went to another aisle. The tall woman helped her put the books back.
It has been almost a month since they met. Carmen learned that the younger woman was in her freshman year in college getting a degree in Computer Engineering. She also realized that Prima is younger than her by four years.
“What are you doing here?”
The teenager scowled at her question. Yet, she continued placing every book that Carmen gave her.
“I’m here because of you. Haven’t I told you that I plan to make you my girlfriend?”
“You’re young. You can have any girl you want in the university where you’re studying.” Carmen reasoned.
“I’m not looking at anyone in the university. The girl I want is in this town.”
“But I’m not into girls.”
Prima sighed. She seized the book from the petite woman before pulling Carmen’s hand.
The tall woman stared into the young librarian after she enclosed Carmen in between her arms.
“I’m not into girls either. However, I don’t want anyone else but you.”
“But—”
“Say you don’t like me, Carmen. Say it. You won’t see again.”
She sighed. Carmen stared into the hazel eyes of the younger woman.
Sadness was evident on Prima’s eyes. By looking into her orbs, Carmen can almost grasp the pain if she uttered the words that would sever their connection.
“You’re still a baby. You don’t know what you like.”
“I know what I like. The woman in my arms at the moment is the same woman I want to get to know more. Only if she allows me.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
Prima frowned. Her eyes showed confusion. “Okay?”
“Kiss me. Make me forget that I’m making a mistake by agreeing into a relationship with you.”
“Alright.”
Prima’s grin was the last thing that Carmen sees before their lips collide.
She felt the shivers again. It runs the length of her spine whenever their lips touch. It did not help that she was enveloped in the strong, warm arms of the young woman.
“You won’t regret it.” Prima said with a little pant when their lips parted.
Carmen pinched her lips together before detaching herself from the tall woman.
“Put them back on the shelves. Just read the labels.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
When she was back on her desk a few meters from the door, she glanced back at the other woman.
Prima was beaming while placing the books back. Her beautiful face flaunted the charming smile on her lips.
She sighed. Carmen placed a hand on her fast-beating heart.
“You alright, babe?”
Carmen swallowed. She felt her heart skipped a beat.
“I‘m good. Are you done?”
“Almost. I’ll be with you in five minutes. Did you choose a book for the weekend?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“I plan to burrow myself in bed.”
A grinning Prima was standing on the other side of her desk in a few strides. A wide grin was painted on her pink lips.
“Can I snuggle with you in your bed? I’m here over the weekend.”
“No.”
“Why?” A scowl marred her pretty face. “I want to spend the weekend with my girlfriend.”
“No.”
“But it’s the reason I’m here in town.”
“No.”
“Babe…”
Turning on deaf ears, she turned away from the younger woman. She shut down the computer and put the things back in order.
Holding the bag in hand, when she gazed at Prima, the teenager is looking at her with a sad face.
“Dinner at my place?” She said.
Like a child in a toy store, the tall woman nodded. Her face beamed in excitement. Gone was the sad woman from a while ago.
Together they left the public library. They thread the short walk from the workplace towards the small apartment she move-in to when she got her last paycheck from the part-time job before she graduates in college.
On the other hand, Prima was talking animatedly as they walked. Their hands were intertwined together.
The good thing about Prima, she was a breath of fresh air. Despite her young age, she knew what she wants.
She recalled that Prima wanted to join the defense force but she also wanted to finish her degree. She heard from the other woman that she wanted to use both her knowledge and brute force in the army for a better tactic.
Their conversation went there when she asked about the fit physique of the young woman. She also learned that Prima physically trained herself so that she would be prepared when she entered the military.
Carmen already disclosed that she has no biological family that she knew off. She already discussed the circumstance of her being adopted by the orphanage. Instead of being turned off by her situation, the knowledge of her being an orphan has no issues with the other woman.
She found out that Prima has an older brother who was Casanova. Her parents were entrepreneurs that ventured into a build and sell industry.
Another thing that she noticed with Prima, she has a great relationship with food. She has a huge appetite of a growing teenager. Well, she is a teenager but she has a burning passion when it comes to eating and food.
“How many kids do you want, babe?”
“W-what?”
Her eyes widen at the question. The young woman chuckled at her reaction.
“At least I know that you’re still with me. You’re only half-listening.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. Give me your key.”
When Carmen looked around, they were already standing at the front door of her apartment unit. She did not realize that they were already here. She must be really out of her mind while they were walking. It was a shame that she was not able to hear Prima’s adventures this week.
“I have steak in the fridge. Can you still wait?” She asked upon entering the threshold of the unit.
“Of course.”
Prima occupied the loveseat in the leaving room. She made herself comfortable there as she watched Carmen removed her shoes and placed them on the shoe rack beside the door.
This is the third time that the young woman has invited herself into the apartment.
A little behind the loveseat was the kitchen counter that served as the dining table. Two chairs were set opposite each other.
On the left side of the loveseat were two doors. The first one was the bedroom while the other was the toilet and bath. In the corner was the kitchen.
“Do you need anything else, babe?”
“No.”
“Are you sure? I can run to the nearest store while they were still open.”
“No. I have soda in the fridge.”
“Thank you, babe.”
“You can turn the television on. The six o’clock news is still airing.”
Without another word, Prima reached for the remote control and pressed the power button.”
“On the recent news, there has been an animal attack in the nearby campsite. One was found dead while two other missing persons have been filed.”
Carmen glanced at the television. The male anchor of the six o’clock news was shown on the small flat television screen. Beside him were the pictures of the two females who were said to be missing.
“Do you know them?” She asked when she saw that Prima turned quiet and her eyes were seriously looking on the screen.
“No.”
“Did you go camping?”
“Sometimes. I have basic knowledge of survival training.”
“Good for you.”
The channel was changed into a food channel. A smile plastered on Prima’s face when the woman with a chef’s hat was giving away instruction on how to make a smoked chicken recipe.
Carmen shook her head.
Prima and her food, she thought
