The Chase

Leon P.O.V. I sat back in my chair and ran my hands down my face. I've been staring at this damn note for hour now. Kenny said the handwriting looked feminine to him, but that doesn't mean anything. I let out a loud groan and put my forehead on the desk next to the untouched plate of food. Farah brought me the plate of dinner awhile ago, she said she also took one to Sage but she was asleep. That thought helped me relax a little. I shouldn't have said those things to her, just the thought of her being in harms way drove my wolf mad. We don't want to lose her before we even get to know her. "Don't you dare try to blame it on me. You're the asshole that's got a temper issue, not me," Killian growled. He's been upset with me the moment she walked out the door. "Yeah, like you didn't have any part in it," I rolled my eyes. "I didn't. You need some anger management or some shit." He pushed himself back before I could respond. I sighed loudly. I feel bad for what I did, but as long as she is safe, then I'm happy. There was something I noticed when she got mad at me, a little accent started to escape her lips. It wasn't thick, but if you payed close enough attention you would hear it. It sounded Irish or Welsh, maybe. Whatever it was, it was a giant turn on. I closed my eyes and imagined her face. Her smile, her giggle, her big curious eyes. I let out a sigh and felt myself calm down. I turned back to the laptop on the desk and went through the names of kidnapped children from over two decades ago. All were either boys, or found by now. Maybe talking to her supposed uncle will help. I got up to make my way down to the dungeons, but was stopped halfway down the staircase. "Hey man," Kenny chuckled nervously in the mind link. "What's up?" I asked. "Well, you know how you put me on patrol tonight?" "Yeah?" "Right, so I was making my way checking around the perimeter of the castle and-" "What? Did you find someone? Bring them down to the dungeons, I'm heading there now." "No, it was actually quite the opposite." He was sounding so nervous, it was starting to worry me. "What do you mean, Kenny?" "There's a bunch of tied bedsheets coming out of Sages window, like a prison escape." I didn't reply, just rushed my way back up to her bedroom. I opened her door to find the room empty and the window open. I looked all around, she didn't even leave a note? I took my phone out of my pocket and checked the time, two-thirty. Fuck. I ran back down the stairs and out the front door, letting Killian come out as soon as I touched the cool night air. "Head East and follow me," I barked out to Kenny and Mike, since they were the closest to the East side of the border. I heard them howl in reply, not too far back from me. I pumped my legs as hard as they would go, I have to make it there in time. There's no way in Hell I am going to let her get hurt, let alone killed. I can't believe she really f*****g left, she really went there to get herself killed. I growled out in frustration. "Really? You cant believe it?" Killian asked, angrily. "I'd be more surprised if she had stayed after all the amazing words of encouragement you gave her." "Not f*****g now, Killian," I yelled at him. "Let me take control," he growled. I did so happily, feeling myself take the backseat. He would be able to get there faster. Her scent was still faintly strong, so he would have an easier time tracking than I. We ran through the woods, the wind whipping through our fur. It felt like hours, but we eventually reached the tree line where the waterfall was. I noticed two figures standing on the rocks by the side of the fall, making my blood run cold. They got here first, but she wasn't dead. I pushed my way back up to listen in on what they were saying. "Who are you?" Sage asked the shirtless guy. "What, you mean you don't even remember your own fiancé?" he asked smugly, faking hurt. Sage didn't respond, meaning she was just as surprised as I was. "Well, how would you anyway? All of your memories were wiped away." He said it with a wicked smile. I had to hold back the growl threatening to escape my lips. I felt a presence behind me, so I whipped around with teeth bared, only to come snout to snout with Scrappy, Kennys wolf. "Mackey just checked the perimeter, nobody else is here. He's stationed on the other side of the waterfall," Kenny linked me, referring to Mikes wolf. I only nodded in reply, going back to listening to the conversation. Sage had her fists clenched at her sides, obviously upset with this news. "What the hell are you talking about? What else don't I remember?" she asked, raising her voice. "I'm sure all of your questions will be answered once we get to her," he said with a thick English accent, taking a step closer to Sage. "Who is 'her'?" she asked him. "You'll find out soon enough, but before we go," using supernatural speed, he pinned Sage against the rocks behind her, "I am going to take what's rightfully mine." I panicked and started to step out of the shadows, but before I could take two steps, Sage kneed the man in between his legs and then punched him in the nose when he bent down. Pride and amazement flooded my heart at watching her fight. She ran past him, trying to go down the side of the rocks, but he grabbed a handful of gravel and threw it under her feet. She lost her footing and I watched as she slid down to the bottom. The man stood tall, with a bloody nose, and started unbuckling his belt and pants. Slowly, he took long strides towards her. Sage got up, limping, and stood facing him. "You have no right to touch me. What kind of man leads his supposed fiancé to their own death?" Sage exclaimed, taking a few limping steps backwards. Her faint accent making an appearance. "An evil one," he replied in a crazed tone. I watched as the color drained from her face. I can't let him get too close to her. Just he got about a foot away from her, I saw Sage swinging a large branch at him. He caught it right before it hit his smug face. "What makes you think you can fight me, Sage? You're only a human now, you're weak," he seethed in her face. That was it. I growled so loudly, the trees all around us trembled with my power. I burst from the tree line, seeing only red. Scrappy and Mackey were quick to follow, we were now circling Sage and this man. "Guess you're not the only evil one here," Sage smirked. "You set me up," he stated more than asked. "Actually, no I didn't set you up. But now," she looked back at me, "it is." She backed up, still limping, and stood behind me. I growled at the pathetic man. "Don't kill, capture," I mind linked. "Well, if that's the case," the man shrugged and bent down, quickly shifting into a muddy brown wolf. This should be easier now knowing he's also a werewolf and not some other supernatural. We circled the brown wolf once again, he bared his teeth and snarled at me. We all attacked at the same time, Kenny and Mikes wolf biting his back legs while I went for the back of his neck. He never put up much of fight, slightly worrying me. Why wasn't he fighting? He kicked the wolves off his back legs and tried to throw me off. Instead, I let go and ran into him, pushing him back into the wall of rocks. Dust and gravel fell over top of us, a bigger rock falling onto his head. The wolf went limp and shifted back underneath of me. I put my paw on his chest lightly, he was still breathing. I backed up off him and looked back to see Kenny walking over in his human form. He picked the guy up and slung him over Mikes wolfs back. "Well that was actually pretty simple," Kenny said with a smile. "It was. Almost too easy. Keep your eyes and ears alert for anything," I told them both in the mind link. They both nodded. Kenny shifted back and they took off back towards the castle. I trotted over towards Sage and bent down for her to climb on so we could get back faster. She looked at me surprised but jumped on, putting her hurt leg over first and then settling on my back. Once she was secure, I took off back to the castle. We got back rather quickly, I wasted no time going through the doors and up to our floor. I stopped outside of our doors and lowered down so Sage could climb off without hurting herself further. I heard her hiss in pain once her foot touched the floor. She leaned over me and opened my door for me, where a naked awaiting Lindsey laid on my bed. She glanced at us and then sent a heated glare towards Sage, but Sage just chuckled. "Sorry," she laughed. I got up and walked into the bedroom and shifted back. Sage shut the door behind me which only enraged me more. "What the f**k do you think you're doing here, Lindsey," I growled at her. "I heard you were stressed out, Alpha. I think I can help you," she said seductively. "Get out," I said. "Oh, come on. That mere human can't make you feel as I can." She walked up to and wrapped her arms around my torso. I threw her arms away and pushed her to the door. "I said get the f**k out," I yelled out in frustration. She looked taken aback, but quickly masked it with anger before slamming the door open and stomping down the hallway. I shut the door and went into my closet, grabbing a pair of black sweats and a grey shirt for Sage and then putting on some boxers and grey sweats. I made my way across the hall and knocked on her door. She opened the door with a tear stained face. I immediately jumped in the room and checked over her for any injuries. "Sage, what's wrong? Are you okay?" I asked quickly. "I'm fine," she said, shrugging my hands off. "Although, I think I did sprain my ankle." She turned around and sulked back to the bed, wiping her tears away. She took in a deep breath, trying to calm herself down and stop crying. "Then what is it?" I asked, going over to sit next to her. "I don't know, a lot of things," she said, looking at the wall in front of us. "Talk to me." I pulled on her hands until she was facing me and waited patiently. She kept quiet and avoided my gaze for a few minutes. I was starting to grow worried about if she was still upset with me. Would she want to leave? Would she run away again in the middle of the night? She finally sighed and looked up at me, taking me out of my panic-stricken thoughts. "What else don't I know about my old life? That guy said he was my fiancé, and then he said that I am human now," she said, putting emphasis on the 'now' part. "So what am I then? I'm just so confused, and then I'm also worried. I don't want anything to happen to your pack or the people you love because I'm an inconvenience. And thinking about that makes your words replay in my head, over and over again." She whispered the last sentence and I felt guilt wash over me. "Sage, I shouldn't have said that you, please forget that ever happened. I was angry with the thought of you not being around anymore and started talking out of my ass. We will figure this out together, this I promise to you. I'll start a search for a witch doctor tomorrow so we can get this curse lifting stuff started, okay?" I asked softly. She bit her lip and looked down, nodding. I sighed and sat back. "You really need to learn how to control your temper," she said with amused look. "I know," I breathed out, with a smile of my own. "Now, can I look at your ankle?" She nodded and lifted her leg up to me. I pulled her pant leg up a little, causing her to wince a little. I waited until she nodded before going any further. Her ankle was pretty swollen and bruised all around the bone. Not bad enough for a hospital visit though. "Hold on," I told her, getting up from the bed and running into my room. I picked the ace bandage up out of my closet and ran back to her. I kneeled down before her and started wrapping her ankle for her. After I was done, I looked back at her and she had a smirk on her beautiful face. I narrowed my eyes and smiled. "What?" I asked. "Nothing, it's just not everyday you have a King kneeling before you," she laughed. "Well, some people deserve it," I said, watching the blush form on her cheeks. I stood back up and went into the bathroom, running a warm bath for her. Once it was finished, I walked back in to help her to her feet. "There, I brought you some fresh clothes to sleep in and ran you a bath so you can relax. Forget about everything for the rest of the night, alright? Don't fall asleep in the tub, and try to get some sleep before the sun rises. I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight Sage," I said, walking over to the bedroom door. She started walking-well limping-towards me, so I met her halfway. As soon as I was in arms reach, she wrapped her arms tightly around my neck and hugged the life out of me. I wrapped my arms around her as well, feeling her slim waist and pretty decent bust on my chest. "Make sure you get some rest too, Leon. Goodnight," she mumbled, breaking the hug. I nodded in reply and made my way out of her room before she noticed my mini me. Well, not-so-mini-me. I smiled as I laid down in my bed, thinking of her. She is definitely not some weak human, that I know for certain. I closed my eyes as her beauty and spunkiness covered every inch of my mind, dreaming of her until training began the next morning.
