Chapter 4

1697 Words
Throughout my ride to and from work, my thoughts kept going back to the various things my parents had said to each other regarding my children. That won't happen at all. "As soon as I walked into my place of employment, I pulled out my phone and called Lisa," was the response that she provided. "See me in my cubicle." I finished my sentence by saying this on the office phone before hanging up. She then rose up and asked, "Bring me a list of everyone that is here and who isn't," after entering in a stealthy manner. You may say that it was insisted upon. "Good to hear, sir." Lisa, do you know why I don't already have a secretary? As a direct result of my inquiry, she circled back around to face me and stared at me. We have not yet decided which course of action will be most beneficial. In response to my question, she stated that That is, "Don't forget to get me one before my forthcoming wedding," which is a formal request. After receiving the directive from me, she acknowledged it with a nod and then exited the building. Penelope was trying to get in touch with me, and the phone just rang. She just sent a text to her coworkers, letting them know that she was already on her way to work. Why am I required to talk to her? She could have organised the wedding herself if it had turned out the way she wanted it to. In fact, I look forward to it. After a while, there was a soft knock on the door, and the person who was there stepped straight in without waiting for me to open it. Penelope sprang into my office glowing with excitement; the fact that she suggested we meet demonstrates that she has faith in her. "Hello!" As the sound of her voice reverberated throughout the room, I twisted around in my chair. Her partner, a diminutive woman with dark hair and wearing a bright yellow sundress, stood next to her. The name of my future husband is Kyle Matthews. Because she was the one who made the initial introduction, I took that as a cue to extend my hand and shake hers. Hey, and it's a pleasure to finally meet you! She did not wish to shake my hand, despite my offering it to her. After keeping me in suspense for such a long time, I had to wonder: who does she think she is? "Nic-" She froze the moment she was caught in my arms, and I swiftly released my grip, which resulted in her falling to the ground. You allowed her to leave, and now everyone is wondering why you did so. Penelope, scream your lungs out. When she finally came to, she quickly grabbed a bottle of water and sprayed it on her face. After that, she stood up. She brought her hands up to her face and massaged her eyes. Why did you decide to deal with a wedding planner whose time in the industry is obviously drawing to a close? Penelope received a severe reprimand from me. "I had no notion that she was on her deathbed due to illness!" She launched a counterattack. You ought to have carried out whatever it was you intended to do in the appropriate manner. My office is now housing a body that is in critical condition. It's not that I'm sick or anything! I am not even going to die. AL E X I S In the end, I was the one who followed Penny into a huge organisation. Your fiancée is working in this establishment, right? I addressed the question as soon as we were all seated in the elevator. Are you working here? Yeah, honey, my future husband is the CEO of the company. She reacted with a chuckle to my question. Loaded. It is likely that he has a large supply of ammunition. She assisted me with entering the lobby and then assisted me with entering an elevator that was headed for the fifth floor. When it was finally opened, the door exposed a lobby where nobody was working at the front desk. It would appear that he does not presently have a secretary available to him. After giving the door a soft knock, she turned the knob to open it. I assumed he was looking out the window as he sat at his desk, but all I could concentrate on was the dirt and grime on his dirty blonde hair, and it brought back unpleasant memories. His office was spacious and had windows that reached from floor to ceiling. Hi, Kyle! Hello there! We have finally made it. She was dressed for the informal environment of the job as she made her approach to his desk. The moment she mentioned that name, my heart made a genuine leap. You can chill out; Alexis is a common name. "I would like to introduce you to Macy, our wedding coordinator." He got up from his seat and turned his attention to us as he strolled up to us. "Hi, Macy. My name is Kyle You, by the way. You, Kyle Matthews. He greeted me by looking in my direction while holding out his hand. Once more, it's those incredibly grating blue eyes. Wait. Matthews? Is it possible that he was talking about Kyle Matthews just now? I'm referring to Kyle Matthews, my ex-boyfriend; is that correct? My attention was drawn to the man's hand as it extended towards the air. Would you mind if I took his hand? Oh no, I hope he doesn't recognise me! What if he does? What do you say I just throw in the towel? My thoughts were racing at an impossible pace for me to keep up with them all. Over eight years have passed since the last time we were that close with those hands. I went ahead and extended my hand to shake his. After attempting "Ni," the sky turned completely black. Time passes. When I opened them, I found myself in an unfamiliar room. While I was continuing to feel lightheaded, I remained seated. While Kyle and Penelope were standing by the table and talking to each other, I couldn't even bring myself to get up and join them. Kyle and Penelope were having a conversation. It's embarrassing that something like this happened on the very first day I had meetings. Why did you decide to deal with a wedding planner whose time in the industry is obviously drawing to a close? Penelope was the recipient of his rebuke, which he delivered directly to her. So far, so good. If he does not recognise me, then I understand what that means about the situation. "I had no notion that she was on her deathbed due to illness!" As she spoke each word slowly, I braced myself and sat up straight. They said, "What do you mean by the fact that I'm sick and dying?" I'm not sick, and I'm not even close to being on my deathbed. I displayed an attitude of displeasure and placed both of my hands on my hips. If you blacked out all of a sudden, you need to explain what happened. Incompetence is not tolerated under any circumstances when it comes to the people I work with. Incompetent? Does Kyle Matthews have a problem with people who think they know everything? Before I arrived here in the morning, I did not consume any food for breakfast. To conceal my shock, I made up a story about what happened. He gives her a dismissive shake of the head and then returns to Penelope. I can confirm that I've talked to her, but she's not someone I particularly care about. At any time, it is possible to request that she depart. Penelope was informed by him in a voice that was audible to me. Macy, I really do apologise, but I can't have you here any longer. It looks like I'll have to get in touch with you again. I returned her smile and nodded. It's not that the things he said were hurtful to me. It was obvious that he had progressed. Being so arrogant was not typical of Kyle at any point. Maybe even just the idea of having so much power was enough to taint him. I went to a restaurant that wasn't too far away in order to work through my emotions. I decided to get a cup of coffee in an effort to calm down, but it was so hot that I was unable to even sip it. After eight years, I finally caught up with him, but he didn't remember who I was. When he eventually decides to get married one month from now, I will have the privilege of serving as his wedding coordinator. I have no idea why he decided to show up at this particular time. Why does it hurt so much to think of him getting married when I was certain that I had already moved on from the situation? On the other hand, I have to admit that I did not recognise him until he formally presented himself to me. I never in a million years would have imagined that my blue-eyed, blonde jock would one day become a suit-and-tie-wearing businessman. My only guess about what he might do in the future concerned his athletic ability. After I gave some thought to this, I found that I couldn't help but giggle. Is this a clue that something important to our story wasn't mentioned? No, no, no, no. Alexis, you are making a fool out of yourself right now. Stop. He has already moved on from you, and it is time for you to do the same. The next time we have a meeting, I want to present the most professional version of myself. In addition to the fact that he has no idea who I am, this is simply an opportunity that is too good to pass up. The circumstances are ideal for a relaxing bath in a hot tub at this time of day.
