Episode 1-The past
/Malia’s POV/
For the past 12 years, I have been walking while looking over my shoulders. I have learned to be very careful with my dealings, I had to stay hidden among the humans and keep my dealings real low, though I had kept a low profile, I was still hunted.
I am Malia Agnor, the only surviving member of the Crescent wolf pack…my pack's alpha line is considered very special, there was a time we used to be the most graceful and powerful pack in the united state because of our special Alpha line, the Alpha line of the Crescent wold pack can practice magic, in the world of the supernaturals, it is considered impossible to possess a wolf or vampire blood and still be able to practice magic, it’s an abomination. So, our pack was an abomination…because our Alpha and Beta line are not just wolves, we are also sorcerers, for so long we were considered a threat to the supernatural community, the vampires, the werewolves, and the witches, so they started to hunt us down, one by one…my father and my brother who could have taken his position were the first to be targeted and with them both gone, we were left defenseless, my mother…the Luna of the pack tried all she could to keep the pack together but she was powerless, we were attacked and with the last power she has, she shielded me against our attackers who were the witches and the wolves.
I groaned and rolled in my bed, recalling the cries of mothers, the wailing of children and the screams of our warriors as their blood splattered on the floor, the wolves and the witches were never friends, they do have a peace treaty but seeing them joining hands together just to take down my pack, I wonder just how much of a threat we were.
It doesn’t hurt anymore actually, the memory always leaves me sullen for days, I mean I was just 12 when it all happened, I sighed and flipped over my bed covers reaching for my end table to check my clock, it was time for my work. I concluded after reading the time to be 8 pm.
To fit in to be a human, and live a successful life, I had to work different shifts of work, I even graduated high school, but that was as far as I could go through.
I stood moving to my full-length mirror that stood in front of my dresser, I mentally controlled my contacts case on top of the dresser into my hand, then I took the brown eye contacts and slipped them unto my eyeballs to hide my sparkling crystal blue eyes, which was hereditary by the way, my family has the color of eyes which was familiar to the color of the crystal moon of the late-night sky.
I pulled to the pack my long raven hair to the back and slipped the band on my wrist on it to make a neat ponytail, then arranged my long bangs. My lean narrow figure was exposed in the mirror, vivid as much as the scars I had gained through the years, I blinked several times to make sure my contacts were in place exposing my soft-bronze eye shadow. I was in a black sports bra and black lacy pants, I reached into my wardrobe and grab faded jeans, a blue shirt, and a white biker jacket before I settled into my black boot heels. With a mental spell, I control my bike key and bags to me before I stood at the door and muttered repeatedly some spells that allow my room to arrange itself, I live in a self-contained apartment in downtown, Brooklyn, New York. It has the least number of supernaturals and is a very comfortable place to live in.
I arrived at the apartment building's underground garage where I kept my bike and soon, I was riding into the night to the clubhouse where I work…The bright cocktail is the best club and bar house and the pay is good, I thought feeling hair hit softly on the helmet I had on.
“Hey Jake” I called to my co-worker who was heading onto the stairs of the bar/clubhouse which had a bright lightened signboard displaying the name of the bar.
“Malia” The short dude called back waiting for me to finish setting my sportbike at the normal position which was just next to the pole situated in front of the bar.
“Our shift is about to start, hurry up” He gestured me over with a wave. Jake is not just another employee at Bright cocktail, he was also my friend…a five-year friend but he knows so little about me, to him…I’m just another abandoned child trying to make a place for myself in the world, he’s human and completely shielded from the supernaturals, which I think is the best for him…the less he knows, the safer he is.
I climbed onto the few stairs and join him in making our way to the bar.
“We both came late today” He voiced in his usual serene tone, he sounded irritated though, which was understandable since Joe, the owner of the bar never seems to stop giving people hard times, though, he’s never being grumpy towards me.
“Do you think he’s going to scold anyone again” I smiled and gave him a long stare before voicing my opinion
“I can’t be sure” I shrugged my brows and moved over to the ladies changing room to get into my waitress outfit which was a mixture of black and white, white shirt, black vest, and black skirts, I arranged my hair in a bun after changing and dumping my leather bag in the locker. Music has already started blaring loudly and the club activities were in full swing but I froze the moment I opened the door.
I could sense supernaturals in the clubhouse, I closed my eyes trying to focus my senses, vampires normally do not come to this part of the city, and the scent…werewolves, I declared after I was able to process their scent.
I’m used to few supernaturals showing up in the club, it wasn’t a big deal, I have been working at the bar for 4years and I know just how to deal with them in case they show up to my face, ignore them, face your business, that’s my formula and it always works. Except for tonight…it wasn’t just any supernatural.
I was walking up to the bar to start moving the drinks around into the club when Joe, with average height, heavy body, strong muscles, brown eyes with thin brown eyebrows, and dyed goatee showed up in front of me.
“Hey Joe, can I help you?” I narrowed my eyes realizing he was staring at me somewhat.
“I need you to handle the bar at the VIP section, Kate called in sick and I need an extra hand up there…I’ll have Jake take up the rounds” He instructed and sighed nodding before placing the tray of drinks I have in my hand on a random table then head straight to the bar, I grab a waist apron and immediately join Anne who always handled the VIP section.
“Thank God, I thought It’ll just be me tonight” The small figure lady spoke in her tiny voice and I smiled but suddenly my body tensed, a sudden scent came rushing into my nose, peaches, rain…woodsy scent…what the heck is that? I wondered but the scent just gets stronger and stronger, almost clouding my senses, I shook my head vigorously trying to clear it and focus on the task at hand.
“Boys, what can I get you?” I smiled raising my head to meet the set of four eyes in front of me. Supernaturals! I groaned inwardly but maintained my indifferent smile.
“You” One of them spoke and I met his eyes, he had round, sullen amber eyes, his brown hair was in crew cut style befitting his clean-shaven face, he had a tall athletic build that made me stare but I was forced to look away but unfortunately he took graceful steps towards me.
“I said you-
“I’m afraid I’m not on the menu, can I get you a beer?” I offered to turn away his chance to flirt with me, it wasn’t a big deal.
“Yeah sure,” The other with the same build as him, but he radiates a more powerful aura, his cold narrow light brown eyes hold so much story waiting to be told, he is an Alpha…not the first time seeing one so I’m not shocked.
I passed them heavily filled beer cups which they both took gladly but instead of heading away they decided to both stay, sitting on the long bar stool in front of the counter, I ignore their presence and continue serving the customers but I suddenly felt a hand on mine while I was staring at the two bickering couples at the corner of the VIP lounge. I jolted feeling a strange electricity surge through me, sparks from that single touch spreading to every part of my body that made me weak to the bones, my legs wobbled at the influence and I turned, with a terrified look on my face to meet a glowing set of amber eyes. He’s a Beta? I mentally asked myself after seeing the bright golden color his eyes were reflecting.
I jacked my hands off and felt my heart race in my chest, pounding painfully against my ribs. Then, I recalled a voice,
“What would you do, if you ever meet your mate?” The voice had asked.
“Run” My brain and the memory concluded at the same time but instinctively I muttered to the hot stranger;
“Mate” Time froze, everything paused and before I could think, I was dashing out of the bar.
