Leaving the meeting Varian had requested his assistant to secure him a place at the party of the old Mrs Everhart by all means. He was furious, why did this strange man claim his ex-wife as his first love and now was why he was being invited to his ex-mother-in-laws party instead of him? To the luck of Baron, he was able to get through to Calista Everhart who was thrilled that her ex-son-in-law was interested in showing up at her party. She had only refused to invite him because she thought he would deny the invitation. Now Calista knew that she would have more bragging rights among her group of friends. For starters, her daughter was once a member of the Meriwether family and now her ex-son-in-law is so kind he would be attending her party himself. Calista told Elowen about the development with Varian but made her swear to keep it a secret from her sister Ellen, she knew that the girl would freak out and throw a tantrum because of the turn of events. She had promised her daughter that by all means, she would be able to avoid meeting Varian throughout her stay in the city. Calista was unaware of the meeting between her daughter and Varian at the airport so she fidgeted at what her daughter would do, the need to feel influential and popular however overshadowed the fear she felt and hence she went ahead with the plan to let him come. She could defend herself and say that she was not the one who invited him, he wanted to come and all she did was let him be. The day of the event started with rain in the morning. The entire house was gloomy and Calista praised herself for her good foresight on how she was able to plan and have her party indoors instead. "I don't do superstitions but I don't like the air of today and the weather too," Ellen said as she helped clear the table. "You believe in superstitions," Elise said with a smirk. "I don't, it's just strange that it's not the season for rain yet it's pouring cats and dogs out there" Ellen added. "Global warming," Elise said. She always likes simple explanations for everything. She hated anything that complicated a situation. The reason for the rain in the wrong season was global warming and not the universe trying to warn them. Later that night Ellen and Eliza struggled to get Alicia Aaron and Arlo out of the house in time for the party. Ellen knew that she was going to leave the place early before everything went down using her children as an excuse. She had to tuck them into bed anyway. Ellen could not deny her mom put a lot of effort into the party, everything looked so sophisticated and beautiful that she could not help but be in awe. They had a mini red carpet moment where they had to have their pictures taken before going into the hall. Ellen stood with her babies by her side on the carpet when the noise caught her attention. Walking to her in all glory was the man who she desperately wanted to avoid by all means. What was he doing here? It was like one commotion after another because as soon as Varian came down from his car a group of reporters swarmed to another car, Ellen raised her head to see Ronan come down from the car. He still had his beauty but it seemed polished and professional like he had undergone a series of body care for himself. "Let's go babies," Ellen said when she noticed the attention of everyone was diverted. No one knew of her marriage to Varian and she was going to keep it that way. She was known for her luxurious brand of clothing and that was good. Her mission at the party was to stay clear of Varian and Ronan and then leave early that night. Ellen was successfully going through the night without having any moment where she had to be in the space with either of the men. She was by the snack table leisurely filling up her plate, Elise had convinced her to send her kids off home with Eliza after the birthday song for their grandmother, somehow she was convinced. "I have a feeling you have been ignoring and avoiding me all night" Ellen gulped, she wished for an escape that did not include her turning around to face the man behind her. She cleared her throat and pulled a smile on her face, she turned around to the man standing there. "Oh Hello, Mr Meriwether," she said in a bright voice. He was taken aback by her tone. "Were you avoiding me?" "Of course" she said and her eyes caught a glimpse of Ronan walking towards her. She did not know why but she did not want to be in the same space as the both of them and not to talk of the both of them at the same time. "If you don't mind now I have to leave now," she said turning left and walking rapidly away. She noticed someone stop Ronan and indulge him in a conversation. From her point of view, it was obvious he could not keep his eyes on the person talking to him but he could not leave either. It was old Mrs Smith. She was always a joy to be around and no one dared to be rude to her anyway. "Wait up Ellen" Ellen stopped and turned around, Varian had followed her out. "Why are you so fast?" He asked as he caught up with her. "Do you have something to say?" She asked. He had no reason to go after her, why did he want to see her? Was she the only one hurt by him after the divorce? "Yes, I have a lot of questions," he said standing straight and running his hands across his suit jacket. "I can spare a minute to answer some questions" Ellen replied. "How are you... How have you been?" He asked. "As you can see" she gestured to herself. "Ummm well..." "Mr Meriwether you have never been a man of few words" Ellen said with a confused expression. "I just wanted to know if the child I saw at the airport with you was mine" he asked. Ellen felt her heart skip a beat as she turned white, she tried to balance out her emotions from showing and tilted her head. "What?" "What I mean is, are the triplets mine?"
