Chapter 2
Days had turned to weeks and then came the awaited wedding ceremony of the Roberts adoptive child, Madison and her husband to be- Steve Armani, a useless illegitimate son who did nothing but idle around in sheer folly.
Madison was a nervous wreck. She had been really nervous and anxious, the past few days. She kept wondering what marrying a stranger could be like. Worse still, a man who was a known idler.
Could she be making the mistake of her life?, She had wondered.
But whatever the answer was, all she was euphoric about was the doctor's report last time she had gone to the hospital to check up on the kind care giver.
For Ms Hannah was really responding to treatment.
The wedding hall was richly decorated with gold and royal blue. It had cream interior, square columns and string lights hanged behind bunched dark tulle across the walls.
Already, Madison looked impeccable in her short sleeved, fit- to- flare, matte wedding gown that was less revealing in the scoop neckline on the front of the dress, to the v neckline on the back.
This wasn't the type of wedding she hoped for, right from when she became an adolescent till now, she had always fantasized an out door wedding beneath a pretty white arbor surrounded by shady trees, water features and a romantic footbridge.
But all that was in the past now, for she was not just marrying a man who had never seen but a useless idler who was nowhere to be found on his wedding day!
As Madison looked at the invitees sitted in the long, family style dining tables paired with faux leather chairs, she wondered why Steve was yet to arrive, for the commencement of the wedding ceremony.
"What a shame." The high pitched voice of Felicia, her sister, distracted Madison a bit. "Neither the groom nor his people are yet to be seen."
She sneered, rolling her eyes. "What a cowardly man, he is."
Some of the guests who were close enough to hear just what Madison had spat out, began mumbling.
"I hear he is a good for nothing, Idle man." One of the guests said.
"Same here." Another concurred. "He's also an illegitimate son!"
"But why would Mr Robert and his poor wife let such a person marry their daughter?"
Coughing loudly, one retorted. "Did you not here that she was adopted from..."
"Felicia, I'm pretty sure you must be feeling impressed right now at how much that loud mouth of yours wag without any control." Drowning the voice of those around her, Madison tilted her head, facing her sister.
She couldn't believe her eyes. People still wouldn't keep shut and mind their damn business. Of what stress of theirs, was it, that she was getting married to an idler or the fact she had been adopted?
She however wondered how her adoption which was kept as a secret, had gotten to the ears of jobless idiots.
Felicia laughed, rolling her eyes, thereafter. "What is wrong with the fact that your idler of a husband is no where to be found. Not even one of his relatives is here in attendance. And you're expecting everyone to sit back and clap their hands?"
Sarcasm had dripped, undiluted from Felicia's mouth.
"You just better kept shut, Felicia! And bridle your tongue. Same goes to all of you gossips who wag your mouths about." Slowly, she had titled her head back to it's original point, as she glared angrily at the invitees who had been making provocative remarks.
And all lips momentarily got sealed as they all turned away with diverse emotions etched all over their faces.
Scumbags.
Madison had cursed inwardly.
Only few minutes had gone by, when a tall evenly skin toned, breathe taking young man with a dark curly mass of hair had walked right into the hall, through the swirly red carpet and stopped right where the Roberts daughters were situated at.
Felicia seemed perplexed. She couldn't believe that this was Steve Amarni, the useless idler she had heard of. For this fine young man looked dazzling.
From his white tux shirt to the wine red tuxedo, black bow tie and patent leather shoes, Felicia couldn't resist this peng creature.
She walked towards Steve, smiling richly and giving him lewd looks, as she had ran her tongue over her lips, countless times.
"I'm Felicia. And you look sinfully hot, Steve Amarni." She extended her hand for a handshake.
Ignoring the outstretched hand and the compliment from Felicia, Steve went straight to Madison, who was dazed at how strikingly handsome he looked.
This was nothing like the same Steve she met few weeks ago at the restaurant where they had their first blind date. He looked like a rich, powerful man here.
"You look so breath-taking, Madison. I apologize for my coming late." Steve told her.
This man probably has a knack for not keeping to appointments. For he had been terribly late to their blind date and few other of their meetings before their wedding day.
"We aren't yet married yet you've given so many apologizes, Steve." She retorted, looking at him expressionlessly.
"It's a bad habit I'm working on. Hope you don't get mad at me on this special day."
Madison would have snapped right at him. But his hot appearance couldn't make her scold him. Rather, she cleared her throat and complimented his dressing.
While waiting for Mr Lawrence Robert to walk her down the aisle, some workers from the catering company her adoptive father had hired were all over the hall, serving the guests with some chops and beverages.
Madison brought her attention right back at Steve who stood beside her.
She thought that the color of the suit he wore complimented his ivory skin tone. The suit looked too expensive for someone like who had no job and she wondered if he had hired it for their wedding.
But then, where did he get the money from? Probably he must have borrowed money from friends or whomever. What concerned her was that he had better not put them into debt.
Just as she was about looking away, she caught sight of the wristwatch on his left hand and her eyes widened in perplexity.
It was the expensive gold wristwatch she had once come across while surfing the net. And she could vividly remember how the price she had seen that day, had her shaken to the bones.
An approximate of one whooping million dollars.
Now, Madison was disconcerted.
Wasn't the Steve Armani before her the poor, lowly idler that had always dressed shabbily and have no penny to his name?!
