Chapter Nine
All was quiet at Carrie Hatchett Enterprises when Carrie finally arrived after driving up from London. After the firm’s products had gone haywire and started attacking people, Carrie had suspended operations indefinitely and sent everyone home. She knew that eventually she would have to close the company down. It would put a lot of people out of work, which would break her heart, but she hadn’t figured out an alternative.
Carrie met the security guard at the back door to the building and went inside. The corridor she walked down was dark, empty and silent. The place was strangely eerie now that no one was around. As she made her way to her office, Carrie half-expected Bob from Accounts to appear around a corner or to hear the hum of conversation from an office.
