Chapter Four

-Victoria's POV-
I wake up to the morning light stinging my eyes. My head feels heavy and I feel so tired.
“You’re awake!” Luke says.
I look at him and nod.
“Why are we in my room?” I ask confused then I look to my other side and see Isaac staring at me, studying me.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
“Vic, do you remember anything about last night?” He asks.
I think for a few minutes but...
“Everything is kind of a blur. I remember going to bed with you last night, Isaac. Then now, did I... sleepwalk or something?”
“Vic, it’s Wednesday, you went to sleep with me on Monday.” Isaac says.
“Wait... so I missed a whole day? How?” I feel so confused.
Luke and Isaac both sigh. They tell me everything and I am shocked.
“I found that little statue in my backpack. But, how did it get there?” I ask,
“I don’t know but the headmaster seemed alarmed.” Isaac says.
“He said that the statue was supposed to be in a vault? Or something like that?” Luke says not sounding too sure.
“Yes, how are you feeling?” The headmaster walks through the door.
“I’m ok, I guess.” I look at the headmaster and he looks concerned.
“Victoria, how did you get in possession of the cursed statue?”
“Cursed? I, I have no idea. I was looking through my backpack and it was just there.” I say.
“Do you still have the rest of it?” He asks.
I’m confused. “The rest of it? It should be in my backpack.”
Luke shakes his head. “There's nothing there Vic, we already checked it.”
I shake my head. “Then I don’t know.”
“Have you seen...” He stops and looks at everyone in the room. “Have anyone of you seen anything else that’s strange?”
“And what would be considered strange in this school?” Marina asks walking into the room.
The headmaster sighs. “You know what I mean. If any of you see anything out of the ordinary, let me know immediately.” He says and starts to walk out.
“The only thing weird right now old man is you.” Marina mumbles and the headmaster give her a warning look.
Marina gives him an innocent smile. “Love you, gramps.”
He sighs and leaves.
“So how are you feeling my little Regan MacNeil?” She asks.
I look at her confused. (Is she the one possessed now?)
Luke laughs a little but then stops. “It would be a good one if it wasn’t my mate you were joking about.”
I look at Isaac and he looks confused too. We both stare at them waiting for the explanation.
Marina sighs. “You need to watch more scary movies. Regan MacNeil is the name of the little girl possessed in the movie The Exorcist.”
I roll my eyes. “That was not funny.” Isaac shakes his head unapprovingly too.
Now thinking about it, I shiver a little.
“Fine, fine.” She says.
She walks closer to us and starts to whisper. “So, that artifact, Zachary found out that it’s an ancient vessel. It means that it has... or had a spirit trapped in it. And if it was in the vault like my grandfather said, then that means it was a really strong and a bad one.”
“But how did it get in Vic's backpack?” Luke asks.
“Now that’s the question.” Marina says deep in thought.
Now I feel angry. “Is this how this semester is going to start? Maybe I should just... drop out!”
Isaac hugs me and that calms me down.
“But if it was a strong spirit, then how did Zach manage to take it out that easily?”
(“Because of me.”) Archion says. I hadn’t heard him until now.
(“I kept the spirit out of our core, so it wasn’t able to get attached to us.”) He says.
(He sounds tired, it probably took a lot out of him.)
“Oh!”
“What?” Luke asks and I tell them what Archion told me.
“That makes sense I guess.” Luke says.
A knock comes on our door. “That’s good too.” Zach stands at our door. “It was an ancient spirit. That’s all my aunt told me but I know there was more to it.”
I nod. “Thank you for helping me.”
He smiles. “No problem, but listen, it’s obvious it was done on purpose so be careful.”
We all nod.
The rest of the day I spent it recovering. The next day, we head back to class and try to act as normal as possible. At lunch, we all sit outside at the front like we did last semester.
“So you are saying that the fire and everything weird that happened yesterday was all you?” Holly asks looking a little scared.
I nod.
“Oh, there he is.” Marina says and starts to wave at Zach to come over.
“Hey.” He says.
“Hey, sit with us.” She says.
He sits. “Thanks. So I have been keeping an eye on my aunt and she has been acting strange.” He says. “Her, the headmaster and another teacher have been meeting during the night. I followed her but I couldn’t hear a thing of what they were saying, they probably had a ward on.”
“I have my suspicions but I’m not sure yet.” Marina says.
We are interrupted by screaming coming from inside the manor. We all look at each other.
“What is going on?” Holly asks alarmed.
We all get up and run inside. The hall is filled with students. We manage to get a glimpse of one of the teachers helping a student up, the student has slashes all over her body and she is covered in blood but they are all starting to heal.
“What... what happened?” I mumble shocked.
We are all terrified.
Holly taps one of the students on their shoulder. “Hey, what happened?”
The girl looks terrified. “She just... she, something threw her on the wall and... slashes starting appearing on her.”
“Something?” Luke asks.
The girl nods. “Well, it was invisible... or a spell? I don’t know.”
We all stay quiet for a bit trying to process everything.
They take the injured girl to the infirmary and the headmaster with some teachers rush inside to talk to her. They close the door behind them and we all stare at it.
“Good thing the girl was a vamp.” Holly says.
We all nod.
Eventually, we all head to class but in the middle of it, we receive a notice to assemble in the school cafeteria.
As we sit, they bring a podium in. The place is full of all the students in the school and they all whisper. Some are scared and others are just curious and confused.
“This obviously has to be about all the weird stuff that has been happening.” Parker says.
We all nod.
The headmaster comes in with some of the teachers, he stands at the podium and clears his throat.
“Good afternoon to all, now settle down. I would like to make an announcement. One of the school vaults has been... broken into. Artifacts were stolen and now seem to be appearing around the school. These items are dangerous. If you find any item of jewelry, anything at all that looks odd or that you have never seen before, please contact me or one of the teachers. School for today will be canceled as teachers will go around the school searching for any more of these items.”
The headmaster and teachers immediately leave, leaving everyone with questions. We all look at each other knowing that, that can’t just be it.
“I’m going to find out more.” Zachary says getting up and heading after them.
“Me too.” Marina says getting up. “But baby...” Nolan complains but follows her.
“I’ll go find more about the girl, I know her, come on Abel.” Holly says dragging Abel with her.
“Ok, we should all meet up at Luke's later!” Parker shouts after them and they nod.
Luke looks at Parker squinting his eyes. “Who the hell you think you are?”
Parker smiles innocently. “Your bestie.” He pats Luke on the back and Luke continues to stare at him. “Besides, your place is the biggest to be our headquarters.”
“Headquarters? For what?” Luke asks.
“Operation: Finding out what the hell is going on in this school. That’s what.” Parker says.
Luke sighs.
Isaac grumbles annoyed and I smile at him.
(He is such a loner. He hates being around so many people but he endures it for me.)
I hug him and that seems to relax him. At that moment he receives a call.
“Yea?”
...
“What? But we had an agreement.”
...
"Ok.”
He hangs up and looks at me.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
“The Blood Thorn Pack is planning something again.” He sighs. “But I’ll handle it. I have to leave right now but I’ll be back later.”
I pout and he smiles kissing my cheek.
“I’m gonna miss you, and if you need me, let me know. I’ll fly to you.” I say.
He laughs. “And then the human army will come after you, seeing a huge dragon flying around.”
I smile. “I’ll... be discreet.”
He laughs again. “Sure.”
He kisses me and turns to Luke.
“I know, I’ll keep her safe.” Luke says.
“Yea.” Isaac says and leaves.
Luke hugs me. “Not that you need me to keep you safe.”
I smile at him. “But I can use it as an excuse to have you with me always.” I say and he nods.
I look at Parker who looks distracted with a girl and then at Luke.
“If you get rid of him, we could spend some alone time upstairs.” I say with flirty eyes.
“Done.” He says enthusiastically.
He says something to Parker and then takes my hand pulling me up the stairs. We both run excited with anticipation.
