Chapter 7

*Alec's pov* Jessa and I had spent the rest of the afternoon together surrounded by our friends. I couldn't help but feel relieved that she was fitting in so well with the core group of people I held close. It was nearing dinner before we decided it would be the right time for me to meet her brother. Of course, I didn't want Jessa to leave yet, I was actually contemplating asking her to move in, but I didn't want to rush things with her. We had left the packhouse and were driving down the mountain. While her brother lived on pack lands, he didn't live in the main village where the packhouse was located. It didn't take us too long to arrive. I was nervous, while I knew the moon goddess blessed me with Jessa, her brother may not see it that way, although he is a wolf so I'm sure he'll be torn. Jessa seemed like she was fighting an inner battle, she was bouncing in her seat but she had a look on her face that looked almost pained. "Jessa my sweet, it's going to be alright," I said as reassuringly as I could. She smiled up at me, her big gray eyes peered into mine and a small smile crossed her face "Okay, let's go introduce you." she said proudly. We got out of the car and walked up a small path to the house. It was a beautiful black stone cottage with white trim. Jessa took me by the hand and led me into the house. "Hey Jacob," she called out, her stepbrother stepped out of one of the rooms in the hallway across from us and almost stopped dead in his tracks seeing us together. "Alpha Alec," he said respectfully, not taking his eyes off of us. "Please just call me Alec, today I am a guest at your home," I said, trying to disarm some of the tension that was building. Jacob had dark brown hair that looked like he had just rolled out of bed, he also had brown eyes. He was fairly tall. I would have pitted him at 6 feet tall at least. You could tell there was no family resemblance between the two, but you could feel how close they were to each other. "Thank you for bringing Jessa home Alp... Alec" Jacob said. "Pleasure is all mine I assure you," I said back. "Jacob..." Jessa spoke up and we both turned to look at her. "Alec, well the thing is Alec is my mate," Jessa said, with some nervousness in her voice. Jacob's mouth dropped like a sack of potatoes jaw hitting the floor. "You're what?!" he said out loud. "My mate," she repeated. Jacob shook his head almost in disbelief. "Well at least you'll be kept safe," he said realizing what he said he quickly changed the subject. "So Alec," he started, " do you want Jessa to be your Luna?" he began grilling me. Knowing that I would do the same for Ashley I humoured him. "Yes, I want to claim Jessa as my mate and my Luna," I answered. This seemed to make Jacob's tension fade away a little more. I knew I needed to know about Jessa's past and why the elders think she's rare. "Jacob, I'd like to talk to you one on one if you don't mind, you either Jessa?" I asked both of them. "Jess, why don't you go pack some clothes, I'm sure Alec here wouldn't mind you spending a few more nights with him. Her eyes lit up, and she looked at me with pouty lips. " I'd love to have you," I said and just like that she dropped my hand, and ran off to the back of the house. "What do you know, Alec?" Jacob asked me point blank when Jessa was out of earshot. "I know she's a fairy, and that on her 18th birthday her hands glowed white and that she doesn't know why," I said leaving out what the elder thought was the truth. Jacob sighed heavily. He ran his hands through his hair "Might as well sit down Alec" he said gesturing to the sofa. We both walked over to his sofa and we took a seat. " I take it you have questions then," Jacob said open-endedly. I nodded, "Might as well start at the beginning then" he said. I sat back and listened to Jacob. "Jessa is special, her parents both knew this. Her birth mother, Annalise, was a powerful winter fairy. She came into her powers after finding her mate, Archie. Archie was a fire warrior, of the fire fairies, but they loved one another fiercely and ran away together. Well, the ruler of the fire fairies was pissed that Annalise was not mated to him. He wanted her for her powers and stopped at nothing to try and steal her away. Archie and Annalise ran away together and eventually gave birth to a baby girl, Jessa. At the time, they didn't know if Jessa would inherit her mother's powers or not since as you know fairies don't come into their powers until their 18th birthday. King Alvaro searched for years to find them. When he eventually did, he tried to kidnap Jessa and hold her for ransom. Annalise, being such a powerful fairy, opened a portal to the land of the earth fairies and sent Archie and Jessa through. Alvaro was beyond pissed that they had escaped and stabbed his sword through her heart killing her almost instantly. If he couldn't have Annalise then he believed no one should. He stormed the land of winter and decreed that if another powerful female winter fairy was to be found that she would be apprehended and forced into a marriage to his son, Raul." Jacob took a breath before continuing. "Archie hid Jessa in fear that she would inherit her mother's powers. As Jessa grew up her eyes changed from a light blue to the gray they are today. She had Annalise's eyes and Archie knew that Jessa was a blessed and powerful fairy, he had heard what happened with Alvaro and he didn't want to put Jessa through that. They lived as nomads for years until Archie met my mom Mona, his second chance mate. Mom had accepted life as we were rogue wolves at the time, but eventually, I wanted a stable home and that's why I came to Black Moon. Archie and my mom approached me and asked for Jessa to come live with me so that she could attend Black Moon High and have a better chance of finding her mate, her protector. She will eventually learn to control her powers but until then, she needs to be kept safe from Raul." he finished his story and I was left with more questions than answers. "How would Raul know that Jessa was a special fairy?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders. "Since they knew about her existence it wouldn't be hard to put two and two together." "Rumor has it Raul has been searching fairylands in search of her, not knowing her name or what she looks like will hinder him. Also, he wouldn't think to look for a fairy living with a pack of wolves" Jacob stated and he had a point. As long as Jessa could keep her powers hidden she would be safe. But, since she didn't know how to control them, she could be in danger. "They could move into the packhouse with me, I would do anything to keep her safe" I blurted out. Jacob fell silent, he seemed like he was weighing what I said. He finally nodded "I think that best, you are her mate and therefore her protector." he said. "She doesn't know, does she?" I asked Jacob and he shook his head. "Her heritage has been hidden from her for her own protection. Maybe she should know though, she's of age now anyways," he said "Jessa?" I called out. She popped her head out a door down the hall, "Can you come here for a minute we'd like to discuss something with you" I finished. Jessa walked out of her room carrying a little bag. This was perfect, she could bring the tiny suitcase and I would buy her everything she would need. This way there would be the illusion she still lived here in case someone found out about her. At least that was a plan for now. Jesse came over and sat beside me on the couch, Jacob let me have the floor. "Jessa, would you like to move into the packhouse with me?" I asked, her face scrunched up, she was thinking hard about this. Suddenly, it was like the light bulb went on and she started to panic. "What if I can't be a good Luna?" she asked me through ragged breaths. I wrapped her in my arms "you'll be the perfect Luna." I said, her breathing started to slow and soon was back to normal. "I'd like that," she whispered. "I'll go make some arrangements, you can have a chat together and then we will head back home okay my little Luna? I said. She nodded and wrapped her little arms around my neck, hugging me fiercely. I stepped out of the house and made the call. I needed to inform Kenneth and Nicholas of everything I learned and let them know Jessa was moving in. When I walked back in, Jacob had his arm wrapped around Jessa's shoulder, she was sobbing into her hands. He must have told her the story of her mother and what she is. I walked over to them and took my seat on the sofa. " Jessa, sweetie it will be okay I won't let anything happen to you" I promised to her. She sniffled tears rolling down her cheeks. "Am I really some powerful fairy who is going to be hunted down?" she asked no one in particular. Jacob and I shared a look, neither one of us knew how to answer her. We were getting ready to leave, Jessa had packed a few more bags, and I loaded them into the car. Once we were ready she gave Jacob a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. "You will be okay Jessa, Alec won't let anything happen to you," He said in a low voice. She hugged him again and then turned and got in the front seat of the car, visibly shaken. I shook Jacob's hand and told him he was welcome at the packhouse any time, we could even look at him moving onto the actual territory to be closer to Jessa and help keep her safe. He said he'd think about it. After a very tearful afternoon, Jessa seemed exhausted. "Ready to go home?" I asked. "Yes Alec, take me home" she replied. I put the car in reverse and headed for home.
