We live in an age of dynasties. From politics to businesses, the line of succession always runs through blood. Who else could we trust but our family, right?
For generations, YK Group dominated the electronics industry. If you own a cellphone, chances are that YK made something inside of it. If not, the phone itself is YK's product.
Lisa smirked as she took her Gucci sunglasses off as she walked towards a bar inside the airport. It's been a while since she came back to Seoul. Traveling back and forth from United States to Europe then back to China can make three years pass by like a blur.
"They trusted the wrong people," a guy said trying to impress her with business talk. He thought talking about knowing who made her phone would sound fascinating to her. "But they have this tech that would revolutionize the whole mobile industry. Actually, they're in talks with an American company to put it in works."
She smiled at the guy before grabbing her bag and gracefully walked away. The guy was a headhunter who's in the works to take a group of developers from YK.
"Way to scare the stewardess away..." she heard one guy say to him making her smirk.
People always assume that just because you're young and pretty, you don't have any idea when it comes to business. That's where they're wrong. Because in this generation, not only do the younger ones dominate the industry but discrimination against women are a thing of the past.
This is why she deserved that promotion. She takes someone else's dirt into a diamond. Plus, she's kind of an expert in manipulating other people.
Guess it serves as an advantage when they assume your work for the airline, instead of owning the plane.
She fished her phone out of her bag and called one of her secretaries.
"Check the contract of ECM," she instructed. "I want you to make it clear to them that all rights of their tech even their own brains is owned by our company until we say so. Also, I want you to sue them for talking to other companies while under ours."
"Don't you think it's too early for business talk?" a familiar baritone voice caught her attention.
As she raised her head, a smiling Taehyung greeted her. But that didn't stop her for having a business related conversation over the phone.
"I want that settled and send a report to my office first thing in the morning. Bye." She said ending the call and finally giving her full attention towards her twin brother.
"Why does it look like you didn't even miss me, little sister?"
"Just because you're a few minutes older than me gives you the right to call me little," she sassed.
"Just because you're about to be promoted to COO doesn't mean you're not," he teased.
The twins chuckled and the eldest of the two placed his arm around the younger.
"It's good to have you back, Lis," he said. "The house was too boring without you."
She eyed him. "Do you really mean that or are you happy 'coz I'll be saving your ass from that 100 billion won asset you loss you gave Jin after that environmental protest you started?"
He shrugged. "I told him not to do it. Those mines destroy the environment. We don't even have a decent rehabilitation plan. We're contributing to the destruction of the world!"
That made Lisa roll her eyes. "This advocacy of yours is really something. Don't get me wrong. I'm proud of you, really. But I still wonder how you two manage to stay alive under the same roof. And how he manages not to kill you in your sleep."
He shrugged. "Dunno but I guess he's too busy being CEO to even notice me at home."
She gently pinched her older brother's cheek. "Jealousy looks cute on you."
"Oh shut up," he mumbled as she clung unto his arm.
"I love you too."
"Our new line of mobile phones are scheduled to release next week," Min Namjoon presented—Director of the engineering department. "The launch will focus on the flagship phone that would mainly target gamers because of its 8GB RAM—"
"But doesn't this look like the phone released last year?" Jisoo Jeon—Director of PR, suddenly said. "I mean, where's the innovation? Wouldn't the consumers question if this really does have upgrades aside from hardware? Aesthetically, it looks the same."
Kim Seokjin turned towards Namjoon.
"Hardware is everything for gamers," Namjoon defended. "The interface is smoother, benchmarks are off the charts. Tech savvy's would love them—"
"Tech savvy's would buy the phone nevertheless," Jin suddenly said. "Aside from the internal upgrades, what else can we focus on? What can we use to grab the non-gamers' attention to go grab this phone off our stores? Miss Jeon does have a fair point."
"We can offer them more variety of colors," Namjoon stated. "We also included wireless charging but it'll be operational after the first OS upgrade just in time for the release of the separate wireless charger—"
"We should push the upgrade before the release," Jisoo suggested. "More consumers would buy our flagship phone since wireless charging is all the fad. There are tons of wireless chargers in the market they can use in the mean time."
"But wouldn't that lessen our sales for our own wireless charger?" Namjoon asked.
"No, it wouldn't," she confidently answered. "That's what our marketing team is for. To sell the products. If we don't include something other than system upgrades, we'd lose more revenue than gain from those wireless chargers."
Seokjin gave Namjoon a nod and stood up.
"Prepare the updates by tomorrow and I want you to give me a proposal for this before we push for the update," he said as he flipped through his papers. "And Miss Jeon, I want to see you in my office after this."
The young CEO went straight to his office with Jisoo tailing him.
"In a business standpoint your proposal might cost us damages since we've been in production for those wireless charging pads for the past year," he started making the brunette sigh. "But do enlighten me, Miss Jeon."
Jin pressed the intercom.
"Don't let anyone in."
"So, COO," Taehyung said as they walked inside a glass cladded building. "Quite ambitious, if I say so myself."
"You know I don't settle for less, Tae," she defended. "Besides, who else would they even give the position to? You're not even doing a good job as a director—no offense."
"Well, I'm not cut out for business like you and Jin. I'd gladly take over the foundation instead."
"Maybe you can tell that to our brother instead of just letting him push you to do stuff that makes us lose billions."
"He might agree but grandma wouldn't," Taehyung said pouting. "They both know I don't have a knack at business but they keep making me do all these business dealings. Ugh!"
"Don't worry. The first thing I'll do once I become COO is to fire you."
"You're such a life saver," he said sarcastically.
"I try," she threw back making them both laugh.
As they walked through the lobby, the employees made way for them. Without forgetting to bow, of course. But with the Kim Twins showing up together in the building meant one thing. Something big is about to happen.
"Ma'am!" Jin's secretary suddenly stood up from her table. "Mr. Kim's not accepting visitors as of the moment. He has an important meeting with one of the Directors."
Lisa eyebrow raised and she turned towards Taehyung who just shrugged. This made the blonde girl ignore the secretary's warning and barged in the CEO's office.
"Oh my fxcking god!"
Jin immediately shielded Jisoo's bare torso with his from the prying eyes of her brother and sister.
"What are you doing here?" The eldest asked.
"The question is, who are you doing here?" The blonde girl countered.
Taehyung squinted his eyes to take a good look at the girl who's busy buttoning her shirt.
"I think she works for the company."
"I didn't expect you two to come here," Jin said as he made himself decent.
"Why?" Lisa folded her arms. "Am I not allowed to visit my brother? And Jin, if you want to screw the secretary at least do it at home where the other employees couldn't see. You might give them ideas on how to land a promotion."
Jin sighed before helping Jisoo off his table.
"I didn't want you two to find out about us this way," he said making Lisa's eyebrow raise.
"Us?" she emphasized.
"Yes, Lis," her brother answered. "Us. Jisoo and I... we're getting married."
"What?!"
"Seriously though. Getting married?"
"Yes, Lali. We are." Jin's arm protectively wrapped on Jisoo's waist.
"How do I even not know about this? When did you two even start dating?" Taehyung asked. "I mean, I'm in Seoul yet I have no idea you're actually dating someone."
"We haven't actually told anyone," Jin answered. "We didn't want rumors to fly around so we kept our relationship a secret—"
"And yet you were about to screw her inside your goddamn office?" Lisa scoffed. "Does grandma even know?"
He nodded. "That's actually why she called you back here to Seoul. I'll be announcing my engagement to Jisoo this coming weekend."
"You're getting engaged this weekend? With a secretary?"
"She's not the secretary. She's the PR Director," Jin corrected. "And Lis, I know you're upset but you don't have to be. There's a few more days left before the party and it's the perfect time for you to bond. I know you'll get along—"
Jin's phone rang making him excuse himself from the rather awkward situation.
Lisa looked distraught as she eyed the girl from head to toe.
"What was your name again?" she asked the girl.
"I'm Jisoo Jeon," Jisoo answered smiling. "It feels so good to finally meet the famous Kim twins. You two look so adorable. I've heard tons of stories about you two. Especially you, Lisa. Your brother adores you."
"Sadly I can't say I feel the same," she answered savagely. "And adore? Clearly you're joking. The only time my brother even mentions me is if there's trouble in the company. Why'd you think he shipped me off abroad? Shopping?"
"O....kay," Taehyung suddenly said saving the poor girl from his twin's claws. "Hi, I'm Taehyung. Why is this the first time I'm seeing you here?"
"I became head of PR around three months ago," she replied.
"How convenient that you suddenly became a director," Lisa outright commented. "Wow. Having a beautiful face can really do you good. Now that's using what you have as an advantage. I commend you for that—"
"Lisa!" Jin's voice echoed through the room making Jisoo flinch. But Lisa, she didn't even budge. She even took a sip off her champagne.
"What? I'm commending you fiancée for a job well done. A fiancée who we never heard of."
"Well that happens when you don't answer my calls," he defended himself.
"Well that preposterous. I always call you," she answered back. "I even called you last night about the merger."
"I called you this morning too," Taehyung added.
"Aside from business."
"In my defense, your life's too boring to even ask about it," she said leaning back. Then she turned to Jisoo. "He works, screw the help and then work again. Boring, right?"
"Lisa!"
"What?" She asked after taking another sip from her drink. "I know my own name, big brother. And don't make it look like it isn't true. This isn't the first time we walked in on you trying to screw someone from the company."
"That's true," Taehyung said motioning his glass towards Lisa—in which she clinks her own glass with. "Don't worry Jisoo. We got him checked. He's clean."
Jin looked so done with the twins. Jisoo laughed making the twins look at each other. Both took a sip on their drink at the same time.
"I'm so looking forward to this weekend," Lisa said smirking towards her big brother.
The sinister look on his twin's eye made Taehyung chuckle a bit.
"Besides, it's only an engagement. Anything can happen."
