Chapter 13 Bennett cruised through his old neighborhood on the ridge, observing the changes in the area. He recalled the freak, raging fire that had taken the homes of several neighbors, leaving other houses damaged and gaping into the night. But now, new foundations dotted the street. He passed Imani, who was looking at a set of plans on the hood of a pickup truck. Easing his SUV to a stop, he saw a contractor he knew standing next to Imani. “Hi, Mr. Mayor,” Imani called out.
