CHAPTER IV: THE PROPHECY
"Luna! You're magnificent!" Rhea and the others complimented.
Rhea and some of the servants help me dress up and with a little makeover. They all tried their best to give me the finest clothes and accessories. I told them I don't need any of it but they insisted. With one obvious reason, because of their King's order. If they fail to do this they'll get yelled at and I don't want to cause that. They're just doing their job so I just let them be.
"Come on make a turn!" One of the ladies giggled. I rolled my eyes before giving it a try. I turn around and my dress sways perfectly. This must be a very expensive dress and you can see that on its authentic design and pearls.
"Gorgeous!" they shouted. They're more excited than I am.
"Oh stop." I laughed. "This isn't even possible without your help." they smile at me and slightly teary.
Rhea ordered them to pack things up and for the other servants to go. Some of them want to stay because they want to see me try some more dress. One of them said I looked like a doll that any dress would fit. They're enjoying this more than I do since I'm not familiar with these extravagant things. I don't even wear dresses unless there's a special occasion!
"What is the purpose of this.. makeover anyway?" I asked when Rhea was brushing my hair.
I remembered bumping into that rude beast a while ago. He's playing tricks on me and I'm irritated. After bruising my neck with his lips, placing love bites on them and violating my personal space he dared to lift me up like a bag of potatoes?! He said it's the easiest way possible because of my legs and I tried punching him but it was useless. I'm actually the one who got hurt in the end.
"Well.. you see Luna" Rhea started. "King is not much of a talkative person."
"I can see that." I said sarcastically.
"But since he wants to talk to you and he asked us to give you everything you need and accompany you all the time. Here we are!" She said. "It's not typical for him to ask favours like that and that makes this task very special to us." she added.
"I know. Thank you for all your hard work. I appreciate them." I said and smiled at me.
"And you know.."
"Tell her!" One of the ladies pushed her.
"Tell me what?" I chuckled.
"There are times that we are losing hope of finding our true Luna but now you are here. We waited for so long and now that you are here we want you to take care of our King. We know that he's very strict and his words are absolute but we know that he's a good King. His actions have its own reasons. He's no mad King like in the other Kingdoms. He has a heart so we are hoping that you can take care of him." Rhea said and I nodded. I remember my grandma again, she said I should claim his heart and change him. I know it's not easy but this is in front of me now. He's already here and I am here. Our paths were entangled by fate and I got this feeling that I'm the only one who hasn't accepted it yet.
"Please make the prophecy come true!" a maid said.
Prophecy?
"Shh. Ellaine! that's enough." and with that curiosity hits me. What exactly is the prophecy?
"Tell me about-"
"We must go! Now that we have fulfilled our duties we are now taking our leave. Have a good day Luna!." a girl said and before going all of them convinced me to face him, again.
I told them how rude their King was when he delivered me back to my room a while ago. I told them I won't see him again. They were all disappointed. Now, they're saying that Xander is actually good hearted. Let's see about that.
I feel odd when they're calling me 'Queen' or 'Luna' or 'your Highness' because I am clearly not that person. I know that all of them are doing their hardest to make me really who I am now. I am blessed to have nice people around me just like in Coble. But that's not the problem here.
Who is Xander Escars?
By that I mean who he is completely. I want to know him more. I see him now as a mystery and a puzzle. A challenge that I just accepted without having choice. Right now he's asking me to meet me and the servant gave their best to make me look presentable. If I were to choose I will not bother doing so.
A knock on the door shook off my thoughts. He's calling me. I sighed and stood up. As I walked my stilettos were noisy and it hurt a little. I'm not used to wearing any of these so I don't know how to actually walk properly..
An amazing antique silver door where there are many guards lined-up is where we are heading. The guards let me in and left the ladies behind. I walk in slowly and my stilettos add awkwardness to this four sided room.
I watched the closed door open with an awe. I saw hundreds no, thousands of books lined with hundreds of book shelves. The scent of old paper and coffee calmed my entire being. I remember the coffee shop that I used to work back at Coble. Unlike the small shelf near my locker this is a billion times better. There are big curtains and lights that illuminated the room and kept the place well ventilated. There are staircases because the shelves are very tall. I saw a big table right between big shelves and he's in there. He was writing something while reading a newspaper on his other hand. He's multitasking and that needs a lot of concentration.
I see what this place is. This is his office.
"Hurry." a familiar baritone voice ordered me. "How long are you planning to stand there?" Great. So he's watching me all along.
"I know." I barely whisper. My foot is definitely not cooperating right now. I walked toward him and I sat at the sofa beside him.
I tried looking at his papers and his penmanship isn't that bad. He's writing a formal letter while reading the newspaper? Is that possible?
"What are you doing?" I asked and I stood up trying to irritate him a little.
"Can you not see?" he replied coldly.
I chuckled and rolled my eyes at him. He's wearing a black cloak and a red vest. I guess this is a royal fashion. I saw him stealing side glances at me while writing. His hair is neatly done and his face is serious. I must admit, he's really attractive.
But his attitude makes him not.
"You requested me." I started.
"You came." he answered.
His eyes diverted on the seat in front of him. I believe he wants me to sit there so that's what I did. Rhea is right, he's not much of a talkative person.
"Have you eaten?" he asks.
I chuckled. He called me to this office just to ask me if I ate? He put his pen down and set it on top of another pile of papers that I believe he just finished.
"No. And I don't have a plan to do so. Can you please tell me why I'm here?" I asked.
"Do you want to have dinner with me?" he asked and I sighed.
"No."
"Do you want anything in particular?" he asked again.
"None."
"I'll send you dinner," he said.
"I'll send them out." I mocked.
"You have guts Amythy but not all the time." he said and all I did was roll my eyes. Guts eh?
"Oh?" I mocked. "So can you please tell why I am here?" I asked and he grinned at me.
"The ceremony will be tomorrow evening. I want you to know and prepare yourself. You see I'm making preparations and writing all the invitations right now." he said coldly. "I just want you to get prepared. Just that." he said and took his pen again. Now that he mentioned it, how long is he making these letters? He looks tired.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Tomorrow is the full moon. And tomorrow we shall be married." he announced and I swear I feel like a bucket of cold water was poured all over me.
Is this another joke? Is he playing tricks on me again? We are getting married too soon! I didn't even have the chance to have a proper proposal from him. Grandma is this what you want my life to end? Married to this man.
"Are you out of your mind? You didn't even propose to me how come we are getting married?" I hissed. This man is getting on my nerves.
"We are not humans. If I tell you that you will marry me, you will. If I told you to stay with me, you will. My orders are absolute. I don't waste time, Amythy." he said with a superior tone. I can't believe this. This can't be serious right?
So he's saying he's controlling my life now?!
I don't know if I should be happy because things come naturally and I don't need to seduce him or anything just like my grandma said because suddenly he's proposing marriage.
"Then at least tell why you wanted to marry me?" My voice is shaking. My hands, clutching the fabric of my dress.
He stood up and didn't answer my question. Does it mean I don't deserve to know this at all?! Am I not worth an explanation then? He didn't even bother to face me or tell me anything that I wanted to know. He continued walking. I don't even have the choice to say no?
I knew it. He has his different ways and it was unreadable. Why does he want to marry me all of a sudden? Why is he rushing things? Is this part of his plan or he's simply as heartless as I think he is.
"Do you even like me?" I asked.
He replied in silence. This is not good. By any time now, my heavy tears will fall.
"Do you love me?!" I shouted.
He turned around and faced me. With a smirk that broke my heart.
"I don't love." he said and put his hands in his pocket while walking out.
His words cleared me one thing, he's heartless. How can I enter his melancholy heart?
The silver door closed and I was left alone now. In a huge room and I am empty.
I closed my eyes and started to cry. I miss my grandma so much. To think that she's all gone now and I'm here facing all the pain. And my life being controlled by a beast that I soon will marry. Things aren't getting better grandma, I wish you're here.
I dried my tears when the door opened. She's wearing a white apron. I saw her at the kitchen an hour ago. She's a chef.
She's pushing a cart and it stops when she faces me. She gave a warm friendly smile and place few trays on the table.
"What's... this?" I trailed off.
She gave me a piece of white paper.
"Please ring the bell when you're done. Alpha did not permit you to go out of his office. Please wait for him patiently. Enjoy your meal." she said and walked out pushing the cart.
I opened the letter and it says:
'You won't send them out. Eat.'
-X
That jerk. He's sending me all the chills. I sigh and start eating.
I hate you.
