GRACE- POV “I would like to know what brought you here, sir,” Hailey said as she opened the door. Rosie and I were hiding in the restroom. Hailey’s voice could be heard from the next room. “Can I speak with the girl who spilled juice on my attire? Roger informed me she lives in this building,” a man’s voice echoed from the other side of the door. Hailey came to the rescue. “Sir, she is presently on duty at the packhouse, but I will ask her to meet you when she returns.” A few moments later, he responded, “Certainly, that is fine with me; then I will wait for her in my room.” As soon as the door closed, I let out a sigh of relief. I had masked my scent so that the unknown man couldn’t detect it. We learned this during our mining training because the Red Moon pack had many enemies and rogues that could track us down and kill us. I took a step into the room. Walking to my bed was a pain in the arse. While resting on a mattress, Hailey expressed the opinion, “This guy is bizarre and hot.” Looking skyward, I replied, “This stranger’s gray eyes and chiseled jaw make him quite appealing to the eye.” When she overheard me saying this, Hailey burst out laughing. “Someone is falling in love at first sight,” Rosie said as she stepped out of the bathroom and wearing a Hailey’s red dress. “I’m not usually drawn to handsome guys, but this guy is so attractive that I’m drawn to him,” I said, tossing a pillow at Rosie, who laughed. “Oh my goodness, Grace! That’s new!” Hailey exclaimed. They both laughed at me at the same time. “Go do Rosie’s makeup and make her look her best for her date,” I said to Hailey, trying to change the subject. Rosie snatched Hailey and yanked her to assist her in completing her makeup in a hurry. I sat on the bed while Hailey did Rosie’s makeup, and she did a great job. When Rosie sat next to me in bed, I brushed her blonde hair while Rosie smiled and sang a romantic song. I started with loops to make the topsy tail braid, twisted them into twists, and finished with a tousle. Once I finished styling her hair, Rosie looked in the mirror and smiled, happy with my creative work. A knock on the door roused Hailey’s attention, and she peered through the peephole to see Derrick. Hailey opened the door without fear. --- While I worked on my tasks, Beta’s daughter, Emily, and her friends walked into the packhouse. Since the Monster Alpha, the leader of the Red Moon pack, has lost his Luna to a rogue attack, Emily thinks the packhouse will choose her as the second Luna. Also, some packhouse members supported Emily, saying she could become the second Luna because she was Alpha’s childhood friend. I hated Emily. She was like her mother and would purposefully make me look stupid and break things to punish me. In that way, she was a lot like her parents. “Do you know that Alpha Jacob is planning to return to the packhouse from the United States tomorrow? So, on Sunday night for Alpha Jacob, I will hold a welcome party,” Emily replied to Cathy, her best friend. “As Alpha Jacob will be here, work hard to look as beautiful as possible,” Cathy said to Emily. In reply to Cathy’s statement, “Yes, you’re right, we need to go shopping and visit a beauty salon.” Seeing that Emily was happy today, we did not have to worry about drama, and we still had a lot to do before the party. As I was setting the table for tomorrow’s party and putting on the tablecloth, I noticed it was already dark because we had to be ready to go by the time the party started tomorrow. Organizing the tables and chairs for the event has been my pleasure, and I’ll begin arranging the flowers tomorrow. “Hello,” came a whisper from behind my back. The unexpected sound jolted me out of my reverie. Someone grabbed my waist and held on tight to keep me from falling. I looked at a man with gray eyes who seemed enigmatic to me. “I am sorry,” said the familiar stranger who came into my view, who came looking for me earlier in our apartment. I wiggled free from his grip. “I didn’t mean to startle you.” However, seeing him so close gave me goosebumps, and my heart rate increased. “It’s okay; I must presumably go since it’s already late,” I mumbled under my breath, unsure of what to say. I felt myself trembling for a long time as he stared at me. That he was so tall meant that he had to be the pack’s Alpha, and I’ve never seen a man so tall around here. “I was wondering how you were doing,” the stranger inquired. It was complicated for me to continue to look at a face as beautiful as his, so I lowered my gaze. “To be honest, I’m fine. I apologize for my earlier mistakes and the fact that I ruined your clothes. I’ll be able to clean them,” I replied. “That’s unnecessary,” the stranger replied. “If you don’t mind, I’d like to know your name.” I responded, “I’m Grace Caddel.” Then I left without looking back. “I find her fascinating.” Hearing the muffled voice of the stranger, “I’m unsure why I’m drawn to her.” Was that a hallucination of my mind, or did I hear that correctly? The moment Hailey led me into the packhouse, she said, “Grace, the Monster Alpha Jacob, has arrived early.” I was terrified.
