Grace - POV As I walked into the party, I saw Rosie and Hailey serving food to the guests. I joined them and continued my work. Lily gave me a disdainful look, clearly upset because I had been absent all day. I knew there would be consequences for my absence, and I dreaded Lily’s punishment after the party. Hailey’s and Rosie’s expressions suggested that Hailey had told Rosie about my rejection by Alpha Jacob. “Please, don’t look at me with pity. I’m fine and capable of working. My main concern is whether Lily will let me off lightly today,” I said, my voice tinged with sadness. “Grace, you look exhausted. Hailey and I will cover your shift. Since it’s your birthday, you should take some time to rest, especially after being rejected by your Mate,” Rosie said, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. “It’s better for me to stay busy than to sit and dwell on the pain. I don’t care about my birthday. I just want to keep working,” I replied, arranging food on the trays. Hailey and Rosie sighed at my stubbornness. I moved from guest to guest with trays of food, returning to refill them. Suddenly, I paused, stunned by a voice in my head. “We have a second mate, Grace,” Cindy, my wolf, purred. I sensed someone behind me and caught a familiar foresty scent. In front of me stood the man whose clothes I had ruined earlier. His gray eyes were unmistakable. Could this stranger be my Mate? “Grace, my mate,” the stranger said, making my heart race. “What is your name?” I asked, confused. Why do I have a second mate when I haven’t accepted the rejection from my first Mate? “Grayson Hunter, the Alpha of the Shadow Pack,” he replied, his tone authoritative. Our packs, the Red Moon Pack and the Shadow Pack, were rivals in power and influence. “I already have a mate. Alpha Jacob Green rejected me, but I haven’t accepted his rejection. I don’t understand how I can be mated to you,” I said, tears welling up as I slumped to the ground. Alpha Grayson knelt and gently wiped my tears. “Please, Alpha Grayson, leave me alone,” I begged. “It’s okay. Don’t cry. Seeing you in tears saddens me. For now, I’ll leave you alone. But remember, I am also your Mate,” Alpha Grayson said. As he walked away, I wept, grateful no one else had witnessed our exchange. Trying to hold back my tears, I continued preparing food trays, still feeling the sting of rejection. I returned to the party, scanning for Alpha Grayson and Alpha Jacob but found neither. Relieved, I resumed working. As the party buzzed, women whispered about Alpha Jacob’s attractiveness. His entrance was unmistakable. He wore khaki pants, a black shirt, and black loafers, showcasing his muscular build. Our eyes met briefly before I looked away, feeling someone’s gaze on me. When I glanced up, Alpha Grayson was watching me intently. His outfit—ripped black jeans, a white t-shirt, a black denim jacket, and black shoes—emphasized his masculine frame. Women flocked around him, captivated by his presence. When Alpha Grayson noticed me staring, he smirked. I quickly averted my gaze and found Alpha Jacob looking at me with anger. To escape their stares, I stepped away from the party.
