Chapter Four

Colton POV
Five minutes have passed since May left the table, I can't take it anymore so I'm gonna go find her. Turning my words on me she basically told me she wanted to be alone. But I can't do it anymore.
"Excuse me." I say to everyone at the table and leave even though I hear them complaining.
'You always f**k things up.' Lucien says.
'I don't need this right now.' I tell him.
'Yea well I need my mate and you are pushing her away from us.' He yells angrily
'I'm not pushing her away, I'm trying to protect her from feeling hurt.' I tell him.
I get to our room, but she's not there, I look everywhere, even under the bed to make sure she's not under there trying to scare me but no. I call her but her phone is on the table.
"Maybe she's with Megan." So I call her.
"Hello?" Megan picks up.
"Hey, is May with you?" I ask.
"No, she went for a run." She says.
"What! Alone?" I panic.
"No, Matt went with her."
I breath relieved.
"Okay thanks." I say and hang up.
'This is all your fault, all your damn fault!!' Lucien says angrily.
'I know.' I say.
'Then do something, tell her the truth!' He says angrily.
"And what am I supposed to tell her Lucien, that Cassandra was my girlfriend? That we dated for three years and we had a serious relationship? That I cared for her and... I still do?"
'But our mate is more important.' He says.
"Of course she is, May is everything to me. What I felt for Cassandra will never compare to what I feel for May, I love her!" I say irritated at him.
I sit on the edge of the bed "If I tell her, I'll hurt her, I don't want to hurt her, I love her too much." I say lowering my head. "And I don't want to hurt Cassandra either, I already broke her heart once and she didn't deserve that."
I take a deep breath not knowing what to do.
'Well, if you ever decide to tell her, make sure that she knows that all that happened before you got me, so she knows I'm not an i***t like you.' He says.
I roll my eyes at him. I change my clothes and wait for her. She gets back after an hour. She comes in in clothes that obviously are not hers, she must have ripped them off when she shifted.
"Lov-" She quickly goes to the bathroom and closes the door on my face.
I sigh.
'Give her time.' Lucien says.
I get everything ready for bed and lie down and wait for her. She gets out with a towel on, goes to the closet, and puts on clothes. She heads straight to bed and lies down facing away from me.
This is the first time she's gone to sleep angry with me like this.
"I love you." She says almost in a whisper.
That surprised me. "I love you too." I want to hold her but I'm sure she'll just pull away.
I can feel she's still angry. And I was right, she still was angry the next few days.
We wake up and she doesn't even look at me. We get ready, eat breakfast, and head to school. She doesn't talk to me. If I ask her a question, she gives me simple yes and no responses. That's how she's been for the last couple of days, and after school, she opts to go training with Jackson or sometimes with Matt while I sometimes have football practice. I feel like we've barely spent any time together. When we go to school, she at least lets me hold her hand but that's about it.
It's Friday today and we head directly to class since we got here late. We get in the classroom and Cassandra is already there, she gives me a smile and I give her one back. We sit at our seats and thank the goddess that this time Cassandra has all her things so we don't have to share like the first day. I'm sure that all that made things worst.
Cassandra is a very touchy person, and after May said that she'd rip her head off if Cass touched me again, I have tried to keep Cass from doing exactly that but, I'm not always fast enough and I can see May furious when that happens.
We head to the lunchroom and I sit in the exact same spot that I have sat the last couple of days, with May next to me and me at the edge of the table with Cassandra in front of me.
Everyone eats and after a while, we start talking about the party tonight.
"So you are definitely going, right Sammy?" Jason asks her.
"Yes, I'm excited about it, it's a pool party, right?" She asks.
"Yep." Jason says with a smile.
"I can't wait, I'm wearing a blue bathing suit, like the type you always liked Colton." Cassandra says smiling at me.
(Dammit Cass!)
I nod and I look at May, I can see and feel the anger emanating from her. I put a hand on her thigh but it does nothing to ease the tension.
"I'm sorry but, you do know that he has a girlfriend, right?" Someone says from the table next to us.
I look and it's Bianca?
"Who the hell are you?" Cass asks.
"Who the hell am I? Are you dumb? Hello? I was there for your tryouts yesterday... cheerleading!?" Bianca asks annoyed.
Cass rolls her eyes. "Look, I actually don't care who you are so, stop talking to me." Cass says looking like she's bored.
Bianca squints her eyes at Cass. "Look, just a little advise, stop being desperate, it makes you look pathetic, and if Colton doesn't pay attention to me, what makes you think that you are any special?" Bianca says with a smirk.
(s**t! what do I do?)
I look to my side at May and she looks amused, she has an elbow on the table with a hand under her chin looking as if she was watching a movie. I look at everyone else and they are all just quiet waiting to see what happens.
"Oh, yea? I'm the pathetic one? You're the one butting into our conversation because you can't get him to notice you any other way." Cass says.
The warning bell rings.
(Thank the goddess.)
I take a deep breath in relief thinking 'saved by the bell' but nope, the moment we all get up, Bianca and Cassandra grab each other and start fighting.
Jason and I quickly separate them before they can do anything other than grabbing each other's hair. I look at May and she's standing with her arms crossed laughing and obviously not wanting to help.
I grab Bianca and Jason has Cass.
"She hit me!... Colton takes me to the nurse's office." Cass says.
"Liar!!" Bianca yells.
I know she didn't get hit. I sigh.
"Are you sure you need to go to the nurse's office?" I ask her.
"Yes!" She says looking like she's going to start crying.
I look at May, and she's squinting her eyes at Cass.
May looks at me and then at Cass again. "Let's go then." She says to her.
Cass looks at her annoyed.
"Colton can take me." Cass says.
"Clearly you think I'm stupid." May says to her grabbing my hand and leading me to the nurse's office.
"Never mind, I'm sure I'll be fine." Cass says.
I hear Bianca laughing and walking away.
May turns around and gives her a fake smile. "Oh, I know you are completely fine."
She then leads me to the classroom instead.
'I love our sassy mate.' Lucien says.
'I know, me too.' I say looking at May pulling us with her.
After all the drama, we finished our classes and headed home. She still doesn't talk to me. We arrive home and get ready for the party.
We head to the party, the pool is huge and everyone is already in their bathing suits and drinking. We quickly meet with Jason, Sammy, and Micah, they are drenched in water.
"Greg couldn't come, his dad needed his help at the last moment." Micah says looking sad.
"Oh, that sucks." May says.
Cassandra appears from behind them.
"Colton, you're here! Look!" She says twirling around in her bathing suit. "Just how you liked them." She says giving me a wink.
'I swear to the goddess Colton, this girl is going to f**k up our relationship with our mate.' Lucien says almost growling.
I look away not really acknowledging her. But of course, now May is pissed and walks off. I go after her grabbing her hand and she turns around.
"I'm really tired of this Colton, if you don't tell her to back off, I will! And I won't be nice about it." She says angrily.
"Baby! You don't need to worry, I'm not going to do anything, you know that. Don't you trust me?" I say pleading to her.
"It's not about trust, I do trust you." She says.
"Then what is it about? Yes she says these stupid comments but I ignore them because I don't care what she says, why can't you just ignore it too?" I ask her.
"Really?" She says crossing her arms.
I sigh.
"Look, right now she's happy, she lost almost all her friends and some family members. I don't want to be the reason she feels alone or sad, I'm just being a friend to her." I tell her.
"I'm not asking you to stop being her friend, I'm asking you to draw a line between friendship and something more because she clearly wants more than just a friendship." She says.
I look away annoyed.
She tilts her head. "I guess you still don't get it, do you? Fine." She says and walks of starting to strip off her clothes and showing her black bikini underneath, then she jumps in the water looking all wet and sexy.
Guys are giving her looks that I'm not liking at all. She looks back at me and I can hear her say. "Just ignore it like I do honey, you trust me right?" She smiles then turns around and grabs a drink from Micah with him complaining and then walks deeper into the pool. I'm left there annoyed and speechless. She twisted my words back at me again.
'Now we know exactly how she feels.' Lucien says.
I sit nearby where I can see her, I don't even care to go into the pool or have fun, I'm just watching her, and watching the fuckers that are looking at her.
"You ok man." Jason comes over.
"Yea I'm fine." I say not looking away from May.
He sighs.
"You know what my father always says?" He asks.
"What?" I ask not really paying attention.
"Happy wife happy life, it's actually something humans say but he likes saying it to me." He says. "Just remember that man." He says patting my back and looking towards May, Sammy, and Micah.
I nod.
"Come with us man." He says heading towards them.
"Na it's fine, I don't think she wants me there right now." I say watching him go.
He heads towards them and I go back to "May watching."
I see Cassandra near her. She's talking to people and smiling.
That's good, she was always really sweet, I want her to be happy.
Cassandra sees me and comes over with a big smile on her face.
I smile back.
"Having fun?" I ask her.
"Yea, but you don't look like you are." She says.
I smile "I'm fine."
She sits next to me.
"Do you remember those parties at the lake? Do you still have them?" She asks.
"Sometimes, but we don't do them as big as we used to." I tell her.
She nods. "I miss those days." She says looking sad.
I don't say anything to that.
"You know what, we should go get drinks, come with me." She says pulling me by the arm.
"I could use a drink but I don't think-" I start to say getting up but look towards May and stop.
I squint my eyes. She's talking to a guy like she knows him?
'Who the hell is that.' Lucien asks angrily.
Cassandra starts to pull me but I ground myself there listening to May and this other guy.
"It's been a while." The guy says to May with a smile.
"It hasn't been that long, has it?" She says.
"Mm, last November? Almost a year." He says.
"Wow never mind." She says.
"So, are you seeing anyone?" May asks.
"Na, after you, there hasn't been anyone else." He says smiling at her.
(What the f**k?)
"What about you?" He asks her.
"Yes, I have someone." She says.
"Ah well, that sucks... you look great by the way." He says looking at her checking her out.
She smiles "Thank you."
(f**k this!!)
I take my shirt off and jump in the water. I head towards them where is shallow.
"Hey baby, who's this?" I ask giving her an angry look.
"An old friend.... well actually, an old boyfriend." She says smiling.
'I'm gonna kill him.' I say to Lucien.
'He's human.' He says.
(Dammit!)
"This is Ryan, he goes to Greenville's high school, at the next town over." She says.
He nods at me.
"How long were you two together?" I ask.
"Nope, the past is in the past." She looks at Ryan and smiles.
He smiles back at her. "It was nice seeing you, we should catch up sometime." He says to her. She waves at him and he walks away.
(Catch up? Who the f**k is this guy?)
'I HATE HIM!' Lucien says angrily.
May starts to walk away but I stop her.
"Who was that?" I ask her.
"I told you, my ex." She says annoyed.
I look at her with a serious expression. "From when?"
"Sorry but no, you don't talk to me about your past, then neither will I." She says turning around.
I'm starting to get angry. "I am not playing this game May!"
She turns around. "Neither am I." She looks behind me and her face turns to anger.
"Your... whatever she is to you, is heading this way." She says angrily and walks away.
(What?) She leaves me here confused.
"Hey Colton, help me swim like you used to, I still can't swim you know." Cass says from behind me.
I sigh.
"Cass, it's shallow here, you don't have to swim." I say, without paying attention to her.
"Please Colton, what if I end up in the deep area?" She says pouting.
I ignore her and keep staring at May.
"Fine then, I'll just have to stay close to you the whole time." She says getting closer to me.
'Colton, this girl is annoying, get rid of her!' Lucien says yelling at me. 'She's the reason our mate is angry at us right now!'
'It's not Cass fault, it's mine.' I say to him.
'Then fix it!' He yells.
'The only way to fix it is by hurting Cass and I can't do that. I don't love her but I still care about her.' I say to him.
He growls at me annoyed.
I look at May and then back at that Ryan guy and he is still looking at her.
