SOUND OF SILENCE – Chapter 6

"Try not to prance around until you feel more comfortable. It's healed but it's still better to be cautious. At least for today." Chester advised with a serious tone to his patient.

Early the very next day, he came to see how Kinsley was bearing with the wound he sustained the day before. Alpha Kristoff had come to check on him as well but left soon as Chester assured him Kinsley will be fine.

The gnawing helplessness inside him rendered Kinsley speechless. His leg was fine, healed completely. But the worry that he drew from not only his roommate and then the young future alpha of White Moon but also Alpha Kristoff left him feeling weaker and incapable.

"Yaa!" Chester snapped his fingers in front of the dazed sixteen year old. "Feeling sorry for yourself is dumb you know. Goddess, what am I to do with you? Let's go have breakfast."

"Thanks, Cop." Kinsley smiled and got up from his bed he was sitting at. Kei had gone out already to walk around. Walking about under the morning sun helps his pregnancy.

At the dining hall, everyone turned quiet the minute Kinsley and Chester entered but soon began talking to themselves again. Chester murmured while his eyes turned yellow. He was talking through a link to someone. He turned to Kinsley and smiled. "Gotta love the buzzing of this pack, don't you? They're just talking about Kelvin's birthday coming soon, that's all."

With a chuckle, Kinsley followed the fourteen year old to join them on their table. There are three very long dining tables at the hall. One of them is occupied by White Moon survivors. He usually sits with Kelvin at the Alpha's table but the latter is not around. Kelvin is protective of him so he makes him sit next to his chair.

In the middle of breakfast, the Alpha's second son arrived at the hall, something he doesn't usually do. Everyone eats at their own time and Skylar out of everyone only joins dinner out of courtesy for his father.

Silence fell as the young Rigodon pulled his seat and began eating. When he glanced at a particular spot, his eyes met with the ones he saw last before he slept.

Kinsley immediately turned his gaze away when his eyes locked on to Skylar's dark orbs. His chest thumped to that familiar rhythm and he could only close his eyes and bite his lower lip to calm himself. His wolf was smirking the way he acted.

'For once, why don't you try having a battle of who will blink first. It will be fun.' Asher suggested.

'Shut up. It's not that easy.' Kinsley replied.

'Oh, yeah? You'll never know if you don't try.'

Kinsley groaned and rolled his eyes. His wolf loves to live on the edge. Every time he meets Skylar's eyes, he panics and looks away. And then he gets teased by none other than his own wolf.

'Be more like me. Once you turn eighteen, it's inevitable. You'll be more and more like me. We are one, baby.'

It made the sixteen year old chuckle. He's thankful to Moon Goddess that even if he can't communicate with anyone, he still has Asher. They share the silence. So it isn't really lonely and scary.

Kinsley was so busy interacting with his inner wolf; his plate was done in no time.

"Nice appetite." Chester commented. "Kelvin told me you don't eat much. Here. Want more?" He offered his other plate of sausages.

"Thanks." Kinsley accepted it with his mouth watering. He doesn't know why but he felt good and all of a sudden felt like eating more. As if he's got no worries in mind. He proceeded to eat all that was on his plate, drank a full glass of water, and surprised one of the kids next to him with a loud burp.

"Hahahaha!" The four year old girl was deeply amused. "You are cute, Kinsy!"

With blushing cheeks, Kinsley smiled at the kid next to him. "Not as much as you though."

"Thank you!"

A table away, a pair of eyes watched with controlled amusement as the sixteen year old pinched the little girl's cheeks.

'He'll be a good father one day...' Kylo sighed.

A part of Skylar agrees but the bigger part of him hated it. And his wolf knows exactly why.

After breakfast, Skylar left the pack house in his wolf form, carrying his clothes on his mouth on the way. He headed to the infirmary to pay a visit to his best friend. Jax and his three minions were already up and good as new again when he arrived in his human form to meet them.

Fear was registered in the eyes of four seventeen year olds when the son of the alpha came inside their ward.

"Skylar..." Jax called his friend since birth. The latter gave him a small nod before taking a seat on the couch designated for visiting members.

Narrowing his eyes on Jax, Skylar tilted his head as if reading the other. "You got now why you were challenged last night?"

Jax and the rest could only bow their heads and grit their teeth.

"Setting a trap..." Skylar scoffed and huffed as he looked up to the ceiling. "I go to the stream near that place. I was on my run. If I didn't smell someone's blood in there, who do you think would have fallen in that little hole?"

Four faces fell shock. None of them knew Skylar goes to that part of their territory.

"I'm sorry, Skylar. We didn't mean to--

"For whatever purpose it was, it's cowardly." Skylar cut Jax off. The rest were just quiet, still traumatized by the last night's fight. "If you do that again, you're no better than a hunter who terrorized our kind for whatever sick reason. To kill us or experiment on us."

"It won't happen again, I swear." Jax said and gestured the rest to apologize as well. They did in unison.

Skylar left the ward shortly after. He nodded curtly at the two pack doctors as he passed by the hallway. Outside, he sensed two scouts seemingly waiting for someone. They're there to start their new task, putting the four kids on a watch list.

Relief was what Skylar felt and the more he denies himself, the more Kylo had fun teasing him.

'You'll be hailed as the great pretender if you keep this up.' Skylar's wolf mocked him. He's had enough of his teases all morning; he ignored his endless ramblings behind his head. He made his way back to the pack house.

In his room, Skylar began packing to leave and fetch his brother at his camp. He will be staying there for a couple of days with him and then they'll be back home in time for Kelvin's eighteenth birthday.

For some reason, Skylar wasn't so excited to leave. It is the day he'll finally be able to meet the other alphas in the country, a task that could lead him to his wish of becoming an alpha as well if his brother declines. Even Kylo didn't feel like leaving.

'Shall we go check on him?' Skylar's wolf suggested.

With a groan, Skylar shook his head. 'Ugh. He'll be fine. His leg healed. What are you worried over for?'

'I didn't say who.' Kylo teased. His roaring laugh echoed in Skylar's head and for the first time, he felt his cheeks burn. Irritated, he slapped the last t-shirt he was packing inside his overnight bag.

'You're a dick.' Skylar told his wolf.

'That makes you one.' Kylo replied.

Skylar was done with packing so there was no more stalling for him. He slung his bag over his shoulder and headed to one of the house's garage. He passed by some of his pack members leaving the house for work and some omegas taking care of the house chores.

As he opened the garage doors, Skylar received a call from his father. "Yes. I'm leaving now."

"Make sure you find your Uncle Daniel's son. Tae will be there." Kristoff was talking about the son of their closest ally in the middle of the country, the Moon Stone.

"Got it."

"Alright. Drive safely."

"Okay, father. Bye."

Skylar locked his phone and stuffed it back to his jeans pocket. He turned to the garage. His black Yamaha yzf-r1 was parked alone given his father had by now left for their company and Kelvin had taken his Jeep with him. He shook his head in disbelief thinking how lame Kelvin's excuse to make him fetch him from the camp.

After making sure his bag was secured on his back, Skylar approached the motorcycle and swung his right leg over to get on before putting this helmet. With a sigh, he brought the bike to life and he was off to drive two hours to get to the camp.
