The Genesis
PROLOGUE:
Williams walked down the road in wobbly steps as he had his right hand grip his stomach, trying to prevent the bullet wound from bleeding. His breathing slowed in pace and sweat sprinkled down his forehead. It was dead in the night and there was no one in sight. He was so lucky to have escaped the disaster that occurred in his apartment earlier that day.
He still couldn't accept the situation that occurred.
Why the hell did Drake send his men to kill him? Hadn't Gina assured him she wanted no one but her husband? What the hell does Drake expect from him now?
If his memory hadn't failed him, he was arranging his bags for a trip the following day before the disruption. Never had he heard a gunshot before! And when he did, he almost thought his life was over!
The first sound he heard that night was glass shattering from his sitting room window, then followed by some gunshots to alert him of approaching danger.
He remembered his heart beating against his chest and his unfailingly thought he would be gone that night.
What the hell did you tell your husband, Gina?
His mind couldn't imagine what conversation Gina must have had with Drake to bring forth his wild side. They both clearly agreed they wouldn't be meeting anymore.
Realizing there was a need to escape as fast as he could, he had let go of his bag and hidden in his closet. That didn't help at all. The masked men scavenged the rooms. There were muffled sounds when he wasn't found.
Just when he thought he was safe, the closet door was kicked open and he was forced out; then came the worst beating he had ever received. A kick, punch… more kicks, more punches. When he tried to defend himself, they had outsmarted him by gripping him tightly.
One proceeded to pull out a gun and point onto his forehead which was already bruised. His eyes couldn't see well anymore.
"You should have left his wife alone! He warned you" The deep voice of the gangster scolded.
"I will pay you more than he paid you" Williams couldn't think of any other way to get himself out. The gangster gazed into his eye for a while and gazed around the room.
"You're lucky I do not wish to get my hands dirty today. Drake has disappointed us many times anyway. I wonder why he's calling us now after years of abandoning us and being that shitty loyal husband. We warned him this love thing would change his heart… Do you have any safe here?"
Williams nodded and pointed towards his safe room. The guy smirked. He ordered his guys to keep an eye on Williams and made for the safe room door.
"I will need you to transfer some cash to my account too, hence your brain would be busted this night"
Williams gave him all he asked for. He allowed his safe to be emptied and transferred the amount they wanted to them, though it might get him bankrupted. The leader of the gang smiled in satisfaction and turned back toward his exit with the briefcase of cash. His men followed.
Williams sighed in relief as he watched the giant guy open the lock.
"You know what, damn your money!" The guy turned back swiftly and shot him in the stomach. "I have to do something. Do not worry, we will make up a story for you. Stay out of our radar thought, because we will kill you"
Williams groaned in pain and pressed his hands against the bullet wound. It bled uncontrollably and his eyes went dizzy.
Here he was now, toddling down the street with an aim not only to escape as far away as he could, but also get help as well.
When he heard the sound of an approaching vehicle, he had snuck sharply into a nearby forest and supported himself against the trees, unable to walk anymore. The night wasn't showing signs of ending anytime soon and he felt life slip out of him.
Just when he was about to give up, he caught sight of a flashlight coming towards his direction from a distance. The flashlight grew closer and the figure of an old man showed itself. The man was stunned at his sight. He gazed at him for a while before, stooping down to him and checking to see if he could still make it.
"Bullshit. I will need to get you some help" he said with an assuring look.
PRESENT
It's been 5 years since Drake's attempt to murder Williams, and Gina could swear it never slipped her mind a bit. Their communication declined. She couldn't view Drake the same way anymore. His apologies on what happened and his attempt to make up for what he did with gifts and apology letters hadn't helped at all. She just couldn't view him the same. Their s*x stopped the same night, she heard the call since she couldn't get herself to share the same room with him.
Drake was heartbroken, she could see and he had gotten involved in so much alcohol consumption due to her. When he came back drunk every night banging on the house entrance for her to open up, he would fall thud onto the ground and ask her where he had gone wrong.
"Do you not love me anymore? Why don't you speak to me?"
"Stop drinking, Drake! It's not helping… "
"I apologize for what I did okay. I was so furious at that time. Why won't you give me another chance? "
"You almost murdered an innocent man, Drake! I told him my final goodbye that day. Why didn't you just trust me? "
Drake's apologies meant nothing to her. She couldn't do anything about them. Isabelle hated her for the hurt she caused Drake and couldn't bond with her anymore. Gina fell into depression. The thought of her daughter whom she loved so deeply throwing her a look of hatred and blaming her for their family division haunted her dreams.
12 year old Isabelle's growth was one tremendous one, Gina could barely believe. It was an overwhelming emotion watching her toddler choose her outfits herself and decide on the appropriate meals she wanted.
"I won't take my black bag today. Blue bags are a trend in school now!" The girl has learnt to say, standing before the mirror while checking her brows. If only she hadn't grown with a poisoned heart. Isabelle was smart enough to understand what went on between them. The news on Bernard not being her real brother, shocked her alot. They were of the same mum, but different fathers. Everyone knew how fond Isabelle was of Drake. She loved her dad so much, she couldn't bare anything that contradicts. Gina watched her daughter lost all love for Bernard. That was a time Gina wouldn't forget. It felt like just yesterday. The girl had clenched her fist in frustration and watched her parent's faces with a furious look. Her lips could not say a word.
If only she didn't find the need to verge it on her brother. As days went by, she'd changed her attitude towards the 6 year old boy. Locking her door to his face became more frequent. She snubbed him by avoid eating with him during breakfast or responding to his art pieces.
"He is just a child Isabelle...." Gina reminded her, as if that would do anything.
"A forbidden child from your affair!" Isabelle hissed.
