"Trash like you belong in the dumpster."
"Just because you attended the same school with A4 before you think you're better than us?"
High pitched voices, talking menacingly.
I haven't even been gone for twenty minutes and Jia's already found herself caught in a nut shell. She's currently cornered against a locker with three girls surrounding her. Everyone's still in the cafeteria.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you."
If drama like this happened in the real world, I'd have ignored it in a blink of an eye. I'm not the type of person who'd waste their precious time snooping on other people's business. Let alone want to be a part of it.
But it's Jia.
Now if I remember the flow of the story correctly, we're probably still in the first chapter of the book if not the starting of the second. By now, the main protagonist has become a magnet for bullies around her simply because news leaked out that she used to attend the same school with A4 last year. It's ridiculous. Bullying someone just because they used to attend the same school with the person you fancy. I'd have given the author a reason for a nose job had I been with them when they were creating the plot.
"You're not going to say anything? You're quite tough aren't ya?" A sharp slap reverbs the wall, followed by a rattling sound of someone getting shoved against a locker. I peak my head around the corner, nibbling on my bottom lip as I take in the scene. Jia's on the floor with her hair a total mess.
As the main protagonist, this is what the writer wanted her to experience. Even if I did intervene, I don't think it'll make any difference. Jia will still remain that silent girl who pretends that nothing happened and the story will go on as planned.
It's frustrating.
I run my finger across my hair and let out a sigh. Next period should start in twenty minutes. I want to be in my seat before anyone gets there. With that in mind, I turn my heel and begin making my way to the classroom.
I still can't get used to the interior. Or that fact that I'm really inside a book. If someone told me yesterday that transmigrating to a book was possible, I would've started listing out hospitals with great accommodations.
Someone's already inside the classroom. But they're fast asleep.
Good.
A good five minutes of peace and quiet should be okay.
I drag my chair a little before taking a seat. Unknowingly, the sound's loud enough to wake up the person who's at least four rows away to my left. After ruffling his brown hair, he turns his face towards my direction with obvious irritation written all over his face.
"Can't you see someone's trying to sleep here?" His voice's raspy, confirming that he was indeed asleep. The second I look up to give him a respond, I realize the guy's non other than Seven.
Sympathy automatically fills my veins. During this period, he's still having struggles at home with his father. He doesn't get proper sleep at home during the night. When he isn't at school, he's at the office handling things that should've been his father's responsibility.
A year. He'll just have to bear one more year and then everything will go back to normal.
I'm not a bad person who derives people from getting some rest. Especially since I know what Seven's going through. He could use all the rest he can get.
"I'll be quiet then."
"What?" He sounds surprised. I wonder why.
I don't respond and start nestling myself above my crossed arms. I could use a few shut eye myself.
-
Classes' finally over. There's no words to describe how relieved I am to know I'll be able to return home and rest.
Jia hadn't showed up until our very last subject. I refrained from asking her what happened knowing all too well she'd just cover the answer with a lie. She tried hiding the swollen half of her face all throughout the lecture. Which I found quite unnecessary. Her pitiful attempt to hide it would've worked if I was the real Lottie. Then again, Lottie would've cared less. Maybe give her a little pat on the back and then that's it.
I tell Jia to wait for me outside of school since I had to make a quick visit to the restroom. When I reach my destination, I don't go in though. Instead, I lean on the wall beside the entrance with crossed arms. Judging by the distinct chattering voices inside, I'm assuming there's at least five girls in. I'm only after three.
It doesn't take long before the first and then the second girl leaves. Now that the cost is clear, I pop my fingers and enter the exact moment I'm seeing my targets heading inside the cubicles. It's funny how they prioritized their make-up first.
Had they not, they could've avoided what's about to happen.
I picked up a wire on the way here. Using that, I begin twirling one end around a door knob my first target's settled in, following the second one and then the last one, finishing just in time to witness them realize that they've been locked in.
"Hey!"
"Is anyone there!"
"What the- This isn't funny! Open up!"
"Looks pretty funny to me." I say, watching with satisfaction. "Consider this a warning the next time you mess with Jia."
Rapid fists pound loudly against the doors. "I-I don't know what you're talking about! Whoever you are, you better let us out or I swear I'm telling my daddy! I'll have you expell-"
"In that case, I better get going. Have fun you guys."
Jia's talking with someone by the time I reach the gate.
"If you want, I could give you a ride home." Arlo kindly offers. Although he's smiling, there's a hint of genuine worry flashing his eyes. I find myself shaking my head, feeling bad for him. Of course the kind one's the first to befriend the girl only to be rejected in the end. If I could have it my way, I'd do something to prevent Arlo from having his heart broken.
But what could I do exactly? In the end, the story will still push through with its original plot no matter what. At least that's what I believe in.
I've made up my mind the moment I was aware of my situation. And that was to avoid getting myself involved as much as possible. I won't repeat what I did to those girls and allow the story to flow down the path it should go. Maybe once Jia finally over comes everything and wins her man, I'll be able to return back to my world.
Jia notices my presence and a smile appears on full lit, gesturing me over like an excited girl.
I lift the side on my lips in a half hearted smile.
For the mean time, I guess this is my life now.
