Ch-17 (Don’t be suspicious)

1243 Words
Aarav looked at his sister, who was sitting on the bed looking out of the window. Nogi was snuggling beside her and would growl at any maid who tried to come close. He caressed her head, waiting for her to say something, anything. He is getting worried with every passing second. “Hana, say something. What is wrong?”; He asked. He clearly can see she is not okay. Something is very wrong, yet she is not opening up. She has never been like this, even after she killed men. “When I was out, I saw myself in the dream.”; She spoke up. Aarav stayed quiet, waiting for her to continue. “I saw myself dying, twice.”; She continued. “I was bleeding, my flesh was rotting and yet I felt nothing. It was as if I was already dead inside.”; She said, making Aarav hold her tight. She was about to continue when they heard a knock, making her stop speaking. He frowned; he seriously wants to buy their own house where there is no one to disturb their family time. They looked back to see Samuel and Michael enter inside the room. The maid informed them that Aahana is awake, and they wanted to see her to make sure she is okay. They suppressed their frown at seeing Aarav sitting so close to her. The moment Aahana saw them a shiver ran down her spine and not the good shivers. For some reason, she went on her guard. She did not understand why, but she wanted to stay away from them. She shifted closer to Aarav, who held her tight. He could feel her tensing up. “Are you feeling, okay?”; Michael asked in a gentle tone. “I will be fine with some rest.”; Aahana replied. She wanted to reply in a normal tone, but it came out cold. All three of the boys were surprised, but said nothing. Michael and Samuel thought it must be because how overwhelmed she must be right now. “Take rest then, we will send your dinner to your room.”; Samuel said. Aahana nodded to this. She did not want to talk to any of them. Both of the brothers walked out of the room with no further word. They wanted to hold her tight as well, but they could sense her guarding up. As soon as the door closed, Aarav looked at Aahana with a confused look. She was not guarded against them. So why the sudden change? “What happened?”; Aarav asked in a confused tone. “I don’t know, my body just reacted on its own.”; Aahana said answered. “Continue what were you saying.”; Aarav said. He thinks the sudden change has to be because of the nightmare she had. She has never lost control, and now suddenly losing the control over her own body is concerning. Aahana nodded and told everything about her nightmare, making Aarav frown. “They are not your family.”; He whispered. He is the only one who is her family, so if the girl wanted to tell Aahana not to trust him, the sentence should be, ‘he is not your family’; but it is not. So, who are ‘they’ she is talking about? There is no family of Aahana as far as he knows. They both have been orphans and lived in the same orphanage. They stayed together because they loved each other and did not want to be separated. He became her older brother because of how protective he feels about her. But as far as he knows there was no one claiming to be her family. Just like him, she does not have any family. Does that make her guard up for everyone? Because if she does not guard up against everyone and just does it for the Griffith family, then that is concerning. He is not blind to the effort they have been trying to get close to Aahana. He does not trust them, but right now they have to pretend. He will see what will happen when those royals come. He will not put his sister in danger. He looked at Aahana, who snuggled against his warmth, and closed her eyes in comfort. He smiled and kissed her head before laying down and holding her tight, to assure her that her older brother will protect her forever. He has never seen her so out before; he needs to figure a way to get away from everything and for that he will need to build connections and have money. This will not be easy, especially now that they are in an entirely different world, which is like a Victorian era. He misses modern technologies that he never appreciated enough. He looked at Aahana, who was about to fall asleep. “Don’t fall asleep, first have some dinner.”; A knock was heard as soon as Aarav told Aahana. He ordered them to enter as the maids did and plated their food on the table. All the maids were struck by their positions. They looked away. They have never seen a brother and sister so close that they lay together. While it was common for Aarav and Aahana, it was not common for such old times. They said nothing and walked away, but not before thinking about how shameless they both are. While the siblings noted nothing; and got up. Aahana still felt weak, so Aarav picked her up and placed her on sofa. She never liked to eat on the bed because she never enjoyed changing bedsheets. “We are now Nephew and niece of the Griffith family.”; Aarav said, making Aahana choke on her soup. She looked at him with confused eyes. He gave her a sheepish smile before telling her everything. “Yeah, as if this all does not sound suspicious.”; Aahana scoffed at the reason Griffith family gave them. “True, but we cannot risk, at least not know. We are not the only one with powers here, they all have it. We cannot come out of this mess with power, we will need to use brain.”; Aarav said, making Aahana nod. “Well, that is your work.”; Aahana replied, making him chuckle. “You know, you just called yourself stupid.”; Aarav answered, making Aahana stop for a moment. She then shrugged and kept on eating. “Your brother won’t disappoint you.”; Aarav answered back. Aahana smiled at him and nodded. ..................................................................
