Chapter 38

1595 Words
Liam’s POV         A little over a month has went by since Serenity left. Alexander still doesn’t know. I’ve been telling him she is doing fine but didn’t want to talk to him. How was I going to tell him that she took off without so much as a note? Hell, I have even tried calling her but with no answer.         Things between me and Erina have been great. She has moved in with me. We have been taking things real slow, so she doesn’t share my room with me yet. She took over Serenity’s room and has made it her own. Erina became worried about Alexander. He only called in every so often and it was just to ask about Serenity and that was it. I should have been honest with him and told him she left but I couldn’t. Alexander would take off to go find her and the cycle would just repeat over and over again. If Serenity felt that she needed to be away, then we should respect that and let her. I just wish she would answer her damn phone to let me know how she is doing. The question loomed over all our minds if she was pregnant or not. I know Alexander has worried himself crazy over it. He wasn’t even acting like himself. No one had really heard much from him over this month. Even his clients were calling me asking if he was still working their cases.         Erina and I decided it would best if we paid him a visit. My brother needed to know there were still people that cared for him. That we would be there to help him through this.         “Erina, baby are you ready yet?”         “Liam, would you chill out! Give me five minutes. Your brother will still be there when we get there.”         Finally, Erina appeared from her room. Wearing dark blue jean with holes cut into the thigh, a bright yellow low-cut tube top shirt, and matching yellow sandals.         “You look stunning.”         “Okay tiger, let’s get going.” We left the apartment and headed off toward my brothers’ home a few hours away. **         We were pulling up to Alexanders house when all became quiet. Both of hoping out the car, we headed toward the door. Knocking with force, Alexander came a few moments later, opening it up for us to come in.         “What are you guys doing here? I wasn’t expecting company. Is Serenity with you?”         “Alexander, we haven’t really heard from you much, so I decided it was time to come see you. Make sure you’re okay.”         “Guys, I’m fine.” He motioned for us to take a seat in the living room. “I’ve been focusing all my time on trying to do better. I took in a little project. You guys should take a look. It is a little project that I wanted to surprise Serenity with when it was completed.”         He led us out the back of the house where the yard expanded. This was always my favorite part about this house. It has a massively huge back yard. Alexander never did anything with it. Mostly because he hated the outdoors. We began walking behind him, following him into the tree line. Where was he taking us? Finally, we emerged from the trees line. An open field in view and a bigger house than Alexanders was being constructed.         “This is why I have been so busy. When I decided I needed time to think about me and Serenity, I took on this project. It has helped me think a lot about her and our relationship. I’m going to finish this home and then I’m going to ask her to marry me. Realizing that she is the only one for me, I’m going to take her hand in marriage. Then we will move in here to her dream home. In the conversations that we had while she was freshly out of the hospital, we talked about what her dream home would look like. She wanted a two-story home with a wrap around porch. A white fence that encased the whole yard. Inside she wanted a fireplace in the living room where we could have romantic nights, a master bedroom big enough for the both of us. She wanted three bedrooms in total in case we were to have children and two bathrooms for the children or guest to use.”         “Alex, she will love it. It looks like it is coming along nicely.”         “Yeah, we only have about two more months of it and it will be completed. I’m excited to show it to her. Did she not want to come with you guys?”         I had to tell him. It would break his heart that she left but he had the right to know. “Serenity left Alex. We haven’t heard from her in over a month. She found your letter, threw it in the trash and left before Erina and I woke.”         “She left? I told her what I was doing. I thought she would understand. I’ve been working on myself for her. This was something that I needed to do for the both of us. For the sake of this relationship. Do you have any idea where she went?”         “No, we don’t. Olivia from her work said she quit the same day she left. Olivia mentioned she was on the road but that was it. All she said was Serenity told her she was going to go get a fresh start. She won’t answer any of my calls, so I haven’t been able to ask her myself.”         “I see.” All the happiness Alexander had a moment later was now drained. He started walking back to his house. We heard the quiet sobs he let out as he did. I had never heard my brother cry before. I began to run after him but Erina stopped me, shaking her head no.         “Liam, he needs to be alone right now. He just lost the woman he loves. Give him some space.”         She was right but I didn’t want my brother to be alone during this time. Erina and I walked back to the house as well, hand in hand.         We were getting ready to leave when Alex came over wrapping his arms around me. “What am I supposed to do Liam? Everything inside of me is telling me to look for her, but I don’t know if I have the energy to find her just to lose her all over again.”         “Try to call her. She might answer if it is you. You never know. Talk to her. Tell her your sorry. Tell her that you will do whatever you need to, to win her back. Just tell her the truth. No lies. We are going to head back home. If you need anything, do not hesitate to call me. You know I will be here as quick as I can.”         He let go of me just nodding his head. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he looked at me. He looked as if his heart was ripped from his chest, completely heart broken. Once we were back in the car, I decided to give Serenity another call. Straight to voicemail. This time I decided to leave a message, hoping she wouldn’t delete it straight away.         “Serenity, its Liam. We are all worried sick about you. Alexander is so lost. Please call us back. At least let us know that you are okay. We don’t need to know where you are or what your doing. Just that you are okay. Please give Alexander a chance to explain himself. You don’t understand the complete sadness he feels. Hear him out, that is all I ask. Goodbye Serenity.” **         We were back home before I head my phone buzzing. Carefully, I reached for it. Hoping it would be her.         “Hello.”         “It’s Serenity. I’m just calling back to let you know I am fine. So, you can all stop worrying. By the way, you can tell Alexander I said go to hell. He didn’t care about my feelings at all when he left so why should I give a damn about his. Last night was the first night I didn’t cry myself to sleep. It’s over between me and him. I want nothing to do with him. He left me when I needed him most. He only ever thinks about himself and I’m tired of trying to console him and make him into the man I need. Tell him to stop calling or I will get my number changed. You can also tell him he can relax, I’m not pregnant.” She ended the call without giving me an opportunity to speak.         With my phone still in hand, I immediately called Alexander. “Hey Alex, I wanted to let you know that Serenity finally called me back.”         “Did she say where she was? Is she okay?”         “She said that she was fine. Alex, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but she said to stop calling her or she was going to change her number. She said that she didn’t want to talk to you anymore.”         “I understand.”         “Serenity also wanted me to let you know that she is not pregnant.”         The phone clicked. I couldn’t even imagine what my brother is going through right now. The hurt he must feel. Part of me wanted to go find Serenity and tell her what an i***t I thought she was being. But at the same time I wanted to give her the space that she clearly needed away from all of us. I was worried for my brother but if this is something Serenity felt she needed, we needed to respect her in that.
