7. WE FOUND THEM!

1272 Words
AUBREY’S POV A MONTH LATER Upon waking up, I burrowed myself into the warm, soft sheets. I rubbed the remainders of sleep from my eyes and gazed out at the horizon, its vivid light extended across a rosy sky. I know that the majority of people consider this beautiful, but I found it strange, hard even, to find something so meaningful in something so every-day. It is not like the sun wouldn’t rise, it had, after all, been reliably happening since the beginning of time. So what is so special about it? I am bitter with life, I have always been ever since Eli and Victoria fled leaving me all by myself. Jill left a month earlier after I told her that I wanted revenge. What is more, I am left all by myself. With no friend or lover. It happened so fast and I am still trying my best to be calm and wait for Peter and Paul to be back with their findings. It has been a month since they started their investigation and I hope that their investigation will be fruitful because I need to find them. If not, I will never have my peace or happiness back. I stepped out of bed and walked to the bathroom to take a cold shower and to brush my teeth. Pulling my hair into a tight high ponytail, I skipped downstairs. My ever sensitive nose caught the tantalizing scent of bacon. Since I was hungry, my stomach gave a loud growl that could have been easily mistaken for rambling of thunder. “Morning mum,” I walked over and grabbed an apple as I pushed my back against the marble counter, a safe space from the sink. “Morning, how was your night?” My mum asked. “My night was okay,” I jested. Today, unlike every other day, I was in a very good mood. “Your dad and I…”My mother wanted to start that topic but I cut her off right away. “I will look for a job mum, I am just waiting for a call before I do that,” They had been telling me to move on and continue with my life, forget about Eli but it was difficult for me to do all that. I still love him and I also want to know why he could possibly do something like that to me. “Time is not waiting on you Aubrey,” She mumbled but I was not paying attention. My attention was now on my phone which was ringing. Seeing Paul’s name flushing on the screen made me happy and nervous at the same time. Since I didn’t want my mum to hear anything they had to say, I left the kitchen. “Hello Paul,” I whispered. “Hello madam, we should meet. I have some information that will be of great help to you,” He announced and my heart started beating so hard against my chest. I hope they are bearing good news. “Okay, I will meet you at Java house in twenty minutes. Is that okay with you?” I asked him. I was curious to know everything and I wanted to know this right away. “It is fine with us,” He said this before hanging up. I needed to prepare as fast as possible. I ran upstairs and dressed up casually in a sweatshirt and sweatpants. I wore sandals before descending downstairs. “Aren’t you going to have breakfast?” My mother asked me. “This is urgent mum, I will be back to have breakfast.” I said hurriedly. “But…” She dawdled but I didn’t have time for that. I rushed to the parking lot where I used her car so as to go and meet with Peter and Paul. By the time I got to Java House, I had broken almost all traffic rules. I was in dire need of the information. The information is what I needed so badly for me to heal and that will be after carrying out my revenge on them. I was at the place before them and thus I took a seat at the corner. I was served with lemon tea to calm my nerves but I didn’t work. I tapped on the table impatiently as I waited for them to show up. Finally, the gentlemen did show up. Seeing the smiles on their faces, I knew that they had some good news to tell me. “What did you find?” I asked them as soon as they took their seats on the other side of the table. “Be calm mum, let us order something to drink as we disclose the news,” They asked me and I remained calm. The next five minutes were the longest five minutes ever. “Tell me now,” I mumbled after they were served. “Well, we found them,” Paul jested and I could feel my blood gushing up my veins. “What! How?” I didn’t understand. Eli said that I was never going to find them and that I should move on. “Victoria posted a picture of the two of them on her new account and that is how we managed to locate them,” Peter stated this proudly but hearing the two of them together made me choke. I hated them. I hated the fact that they are happy after what they did to me. The pain I felt was like a knife being twisted in my spine. It shots up fast, erasing every thought from my head and paralyzing my body. “Madam, are you okay?” Paul asked me when I was silent for a couple of minutes. “Yea, go on,” I hushed. They gave me a picture of the two of them kissing and it made me feel ten times worse. For the longest time, I felt that Eli and Victoria’s betrayal was a nightmare that I would wake up from but seeing the picture at hand, it hit me that this is the reality. “Madam, is everything alright? You have changed,” They noted. “I am fine, it is just that I have been blown by how they are happy after betraying me in the worst way possible,” I told them this bit. “Wait, madam, what are you going to do with the information that we have given you?” Paul asked me. “I am sorry to say this, but it is none of your business. You have completed your work. You should leave now. I will deposit the remaining fee in your accounts in the afternoon,” I instructed and they looked at each other before walking away. I was left at that corner by myself. I kept staring at the picture, I didn’t stop no matter how much pain that it caused me. Tears burst forth like water from a dam, spilling down my face. I can feel the muscles of my chin tremble like a small child and I look toward the window beside me, as if light could soothe me. At this moment, I chose to go and get revenge. They should feel all this pain that I am feeling. No one deserves to feel what I am feeling right now. My eyes continue dripping with tears. My walls, the walls that hold me up, make me strong just…collapse. Moment by moment, they fall. Salty drops fall from my chin, drenching my sweatshirt. People are staring at me but I can’t stop crying.
