"Good morning Luna… oh my… you're already awake." Delilah gasped as she stepped into my room. I smiled at her, getting to my feet.
"I'm an early riser."
Lies… I had tried to fall asleep yet the nightmares kept me up. Being close to that murderous bastard was bringing back memories I had suppressed especially after finding out he drinks human blood.
"Oh… in that case, should I help you get ready for the day?" She inquired.
"No, it's fine. I just need to take a shower and get dressed." I said, heading to the bathroom. I glanced at myself in the mirror.
The bags underneath my eyes were pronounced, my skin was paler than usual, even my hair was limp. Shaking my head at my reflection, I turned to the shower, letting the warm water wash away the fatigue.
Once I was done I got out and made my way to the closet, grabbing underwear and a pair of jeans with a shirt and jacket. I got dressed before turning to Delilah.
"Let's get going."
She smiled and followed me out of the room. I made my way downstairs, I could hear voices coming from the dining room. We headed in, Tony was standing beside Jacob, pointing out something on a piece of paper. They looked up the moment I walked in.
"Luna Prime." Tony greeted me, I nodded at him, taking a seat while ignoring Jacob's eyes which were on me. Delilah served me my breakfast and I dug in. After skipping dinner last night, I was starving.
"You have a meeting with Alpha Lucien by 1.30pm…" Tony continued.
"Is this still about the border issues with Blake Pinehurst?" Jacob inquired. My ears perked up at his words, so he was having border issues within his continent… well that's interesting. I bit back a smirk, storing the information in my brain as I took another bite of my potatoes.
The door opened and we all looked up as a man walked in. He crossed his fist over his chest and bowed.
"Apologies for interrupting your breakfast my Prime but there's a car from the Silverstone Consult waiting by the borders." He informed him. I glanced at Jacob who raised a brow at the man before glancing over at me.
"Escort them in." He directed. The man nodded before leaving. I wiped my lips with the serviette and placed it on the table before getting to my feet.
"And where do you think you're going pet?" He asked.
"I know for a fact they didn't come to pay YOU a courtesy visit." I replied, not bothering to wait for his reply. Delilah followed me out.
"I really don't think it's a good idea to keep defying the Prime." She whispered.
"What's the worst he could do? Kill my family? Oh wait… he already did that. I am not afraid of him Delilah." I replied, making my way out to the porch. I reached into my mind for Liam.
Liam? Are you there?
He answered immediately.
Yeah.
The car to take you to the consulate is here, can you get someone to bring you to Jacob's cottage? I instructed.
Yes, I'll be there.
I turned my attention back to my surroundings, frowning when I noticed Jacob standing next to me.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm not stupid to leave you alone with a member of your consulate." He replied, his eyes staring straight, hands behind his back.
"Why? Are you afraid that I might have a plan to kill you?" I inquired. He let out a chuckle.
"Afraid? Don't overestimate yourself, Adelaide. You are as frightening as a little lamb."
I flushed at his insult, my fingers itching to punch him. I parted my lips about to retort when I saw Liam making his way up the street towards us. His eyes darkened at the sight of Jacob standing so close to me. I made my way down the stairs, meeting Liam.
"Hey" I hugged him. "Control yourself." I whispered into his ear, running my hand down his back. I could tell his wolf was fighting to burst out and attack Jacob but it would only end in blood being shed… Liam's blood to be specific.
"I hate seeing him standing there, looking smug as if he has won." He gritted. I pulled back, his eyes were trained on Jacob. I cupped his face, turning his attention to me.
"Liam, control wolf." I ordered. He let out a warning growl, closing his eyes as his body trembled with anger. He nodded, inhaling and exhaling slowly before opening his eyes.
He hasn't won, Jacob Mont Blanc will fall, Liam, I swear it to you.
He nodded and I smiled at him. The sound of an approaching car made me glance away from him. The car stopped in front of the cottage, Magnus stepping out, followed by another man who walked up the stairs to Jacob and handed him a box. I frowned wondering what it was.
"Alpha Prime Adelaide." He greeted me, bowing.
"Magnus" I acknowledged. He turned to Jacob, bowing stiffly.
"Alpha Prime."
Jacob nodded in return.
"Take care of yourself Liam, and make sure you call Uncle Pete."
"You too, if you ever need any help, just let me know. I'll be here before you know it." He replied. I smiled at him, hugging him once more. I didn't want him to go yet I knew him staying here would only jeopardise my plans.
Magnus stepped forward.
"Apologies Adelaide, the guards searching the car seized the phone. They handed it over to Jacob." He whispered. Anger flared within me but I stamped it down.
"It's fine. Just get Liam out of here."
I watched them get into the car, a feeling of loneliness surged through me and I was half tempted to run after them.
No… this is what is needed Adelaide, Liam being here will only serve as a distraction.
I let out a sigh, my eyes on the car until it disappeared around the bend before I turned and headed back inside to get my phone from the control freak.
I found him in the living room, his eyes on the phone box, he glanced up at me.
"If you needed a phone you could have just told me." He stated, placing the box on the table.
"Hmm… get a phone from someone I trust or get a phone from a murderous enemy… such a hard choice." I uttered, reaching over and taking the box. A gasp escaped my lips as his hand gripped mine. The world shifted and in a matter of seconds, I was flat on the table, Jacob pressed against me, his hands holding mine down. I struggled against his grip, ignoring how close our bodies were.
"Yet it was this same murderous enemy's phone you used to call the consulate in the first place."
What the… how did he know?!
He grinned, though there was nothing amusing about his smile. My eyes drifted to his sharp fangs which were slightly on display.
Why are his fangs so long and sharp?!
"Surprised?"
"Hardly." I snapped. "Now let go of my hand."
Instead of doing as I said, he leaned close to my ear.
"You really should stop lying, pet. It is not befitting of my Luna."
"Tell that to someone who actually wants to be your Luna." I spat.
Someone clearing their throat had us turning towards them.
A guard stood, looking very uncomfortable. I tried to tug my hand away but Jacob tightened his grip.
"What is it?" He asked.
"What you asked for… it's done." The guard stated, averting his eyes.
"Perfect." He said, stepping away from me, a smirk on his lips. I narrowed my eyes at him, wondering what he had done and why he looked so smug.
"If you so much as hurt Li…"
"I will never go back on my promises Adelaide, you'll find that I am very honest when it comes to a lot of things… I just can't say the same for you."
"What are you talking about?" I snapped. He looked over at the guard.
"Bring her in."
I turned around just as the door opened once more, my heart sinking at the woman before me.
Shit.
Fuck.
I swallowed hard as she looked past me to Jacob.
"Alpha Prime." She bowed, glancing at me one more time, her brows furrowed.
"Samara" He acknowledged, noticing her staring at me. "You're staring at my Luna, is there a problem?"
The tone of his question seemed innocent but I knew better, he was baiting her.
"I… u… well, she…"
"Garrett…" He called out. My heart slammed against my chest.
"What the hell are you doing?" I hissed at him, the door opened once more and my eyes landed on the man who had chased me to the consulate. I swallowed hard, glancing down at his hand.
My blonde wig.
"Maybe something to jog your memory." Jacob stated as Garrett tossed the wig at Samara. Her brows knitted together, her mind piecing everything together. She glanced up at me.
"Emma?"
Confusion flashed across her face.
"I… I…"
"This is Adelaide Silverstone, not Emma or whatever she told you her name was. You are very kind Samara and my Luna here used that to her advantage." He explained cutting me off. I clenched my jaw, hating how I felt at the look of hurt on her face.
"I apologise, Alpha Prime, it will never happen again." She whispered, bowing her head.
"I would rather hope it does not." He stated. "You're dismissed."
She nodded and with a final glance my way, she left.
"Why the f**k did you do that?!" I snarled. He looked down at me.
"She was bound to find out later." He replied.
"So what's your aim? Turn the only person I know here against me?" I snapped.
"Make no mistake Adelaide, you can make as many friends as you want to here, but you will never have their loyalty."
I ground my teeth, watching him walk out of the living room.
"Asshole!"
I ran my fingers through my hair before slowly letting out a breath, rolling my shoulders back. I would not let him frustrate me, Jacob would die, that I was sure of. I opened the box and brought out the phone, switching it on.
I checked the contact list and noticed Magus had already saved the Consulate and his phone numbers on the device. I immediately imputed Liam and Uncle Pete's numbers too before sliding the phone into my pocket.
With Liam away, I could put my plan into gear, the door opened and Delilah stepped in.
Perfect
"Just the person I was looking for." I stated, smiling as I walked up to her. "I was hoping you could show me around."
A look of surprise flashed across her face before nodding.
"Ofcourse, this way."
I followed her out of the cottage, barely paying attention as she pointed out several buildings.
"What about the kitchens?" I inquired.
"Well, most families cook their food themselves, we don't have a community kitchen if that's what you're thinking of." She replied.
"What about Jacob? Who cooks for him?"
"Oh, there's a kitchen in the cottage, one of the she-wolves usually cooks, I think they have a roster." She explained.
Hmm.. interesting. I'd have to get my hands on that roster.
Satisfied with the information I had gotten, I tuned her out as she continued with the tour, instead concentrating on hatching my plan to poison him.
By the time we got back to the cottage, I had an almost perfect plan on how to kill the bastard. I obviously didn't have the patience to gain his trust and he was too suspicious of me to ever fully let his guard down, so I had to act fast.
"Thank you for showing me around." I said to Delilah, she smiled at me.
"It's the least I could do… oh that reminds me, my mum asked me to invite you and the Prime for dinner tonight, I know it's short notice and all… you can say no if you want to." She whispered the last part, looking down at her feet.
Shit…
"Well… actually I was…"
"Let your mother know, the Luna and I will be there." Jacob said, coming to stand close to me. I stiffened when he placed a hand on my back.
Delilah's eyes lit up, a wide grin on her lips.
"Really?!!! Oh Eda, mum's going to be so happy!!! Thank you Prime, thank you Luna!!!"
She bowed before skipping down the steps and out of sight. I wasted no time, turning around to Jacob who was walking away.
"What the f**k is your problem? I am not about to play happy Luna nor am I in the mood to socialise with any of your pack members."
I followed him into his study, he turned to me.
"I can ask her back here and then you can tell her that you have no interest in playing happy Luna with her mother." He replied, I glared at him knowing fully well I would feel like an ass if I did that to her.
The smirk on his lips told me he knew he had won this round.
Bastard
I stomped out, making my way up to my room. Tossing the phone on the bed, I laid next to the phone, staring at the ceiling. Liam was away, that was good. Even if I get caught for killing Jacob, I would proudly die knowing he was safe. I knew Magnus would find a way to get him out of North America. I placed a hand on my chest, stiffening when the Mont Blanc Luna ring grazed my skin. I wanted to tug and hurl it across the room, yet something about it prevented me from doing so.
Sighing, I closed my eyes, deciding to get some much needed sleep, if I was to execute this plan, I needed a clear head.
*********************
The door opened and a woman peeked in, her eyes searching around for me.
"Good afternoon Luna Prime, I brought you lunch." She greeted, pushing the door open.
"Good afternoon."
She placed the tray she was holding on the table, bowing slightly before turning to leave.
"Stop."
She froze, turning to me, eyes wide. I got up from my seat and approached her.
"What's your name?" I inquired.
"Willow" She answered, grabbing fistfuls of her apron.
"You're one of the she-wolves that cooks for the Alpha Prime aren't you?" I asked. She shook her head.
"No, Luna Prime, I… I serve him his braew." She replied. I perked up at that, a smile creeping onto my lips.
Even better
"Will you be the one to serve him tomorrow evening?"
"Yes Luna Prime."
"Perfect" I whispered, getting to my feet and approaching her. She looked worried as I placed a hand on her arm, she flinched slightly before her eyes glazed over.
"Now listen to me carefully…."
