Chapter Seventeen (Part 1)

“I plan on hosting a banquet.” I looked up from my plate, eyebrow raised at his words. It was the next day, Jacob and I were having lunch together. “A banquet?” I repeated. “Yes, to introduce you as my mate and Luna, it is high time the world knows I have found you.” He explained. “And do I have a say in this supposed banquet?” I inquired. “No, but I am leaving the planning in your hands. I trust you to come up with something amazing.” he replied. I clenched my jaw, stabbing at my chicken wishing it was him instead. He wiped his mouth with the napkin before getting to his feet. “I know nothing about organising balls so unless you want a s**t show, you better leave me out of it.” I snapped, glaring up at him. “Well then this is the perfect time for you to learn, seeing as you will be organising and hosting a lot of them as time goes on.” He replied, something about his words incensed me. My grip on the fork tightened until I felt it bend under pressure. He walked up to me, pausing to place a black card and a small piece of paper in front of me “You can use that for whatever you need for the banquet.” He stated “the code’s on the paper. I trust that won't be too much of a task for you, pet?” He didn't wait for an answer before walking out. I glared at the offending piece of plastic, my appetite gone. I picked it up, staring at it before smirking. Might as well make him broke before I killed him. Oh Jacob, you're going to regret this. “Good morning Ms Adelaide.” Delilah interrupted my plotting, I looked up at her, she was holding a binder. “Good morning Delilah.” She sat next to me, placing the binder on the table. “I'd like to apologise for my mum, she can be very pushy but she usually means well.” She whispered, her eyes on me. I took a sip of my tea. “It's fine Delilah but you really should learn to stand up for yourself, she can't continue pushing you around like a child.” I replied. She nodded, looking down at her binder. “Ready to plan the event?” She inquired. “No.” I replied, making her shake her head at me. “It'll be fun.” “I highly doubt it.” I stated as she opened her binder and handed me a smaller book. “You can make notes in it.” She handed me a pen, immune to my foul mood. ******** ******** The doors swung open making Delilah and I look up as Olivia strutted in, carrying a large planner. “Hello Adelaide.” I raised a brow at the way she addressed me. “I didn't know we were on a first name basis.” I replied, she smiled, her eyes narrowing at the Luna ring on my finger before she placed her tablet on the table, sitting without any invitation. I could feel the beast within me flaring at her insolence. “I was shocked to hear that Jake had asked you to plan the banquet, I mean I normally did that so I decided to help you seeing as I have a lot of experience in things relating to Jake.” She explained. Images of her drenched in blood with her throat clawed out made me roll my eyes internally. I didn't care if she spent every single night in his bed “I think we should first start with the seating arrangement.” She declared, opening up the planner, pushing Delilah's to the side. “Jake usually sits at the main table which faces the rest of the hall but is separated by the dance floor/stage. The advisors and their mates sit on the main table too, so do I, being Jake's usual date for these things… oh sorry…” She trailed off, glancing at me. There was nothing apologetic about the look on her face. There are usually 10 tables with two Alphas, two beta and their mates. Meaning 8 people per table.” She explained, handing me the seating arrangement. “This is from the format I use for every event.” I looked it over, Delilah leaning closer to see. “Wait… this is… Alpha Blake and Alpha Lucien.” “The grown ups are talking Delilah, so shut the f**k up, why don’t you go take a picture of a flower or something?” Olivia said, cutting her off with a glare. I felt Delilah shrink back to her seat and something within me flared. I placed the paper on the table and got to my feet. “Delilah and I can handle this, you can leave.” I didn't bother hiding the smirk as she stared at me, lips parted like a fish out of water. “B-but… I…” I closed her planner and handed it back to her. “Don't let the door hit you on the way out.” Her features twisted and she snatched the book from my hand before storming out, slamming the door shut in the process. Fucking brat “She's going to tell Jacob.” Delilah whispered. “Good, then maybe he can have her plan the stupid banquetl.” I muttered, sitting back down knowing it was highly unlikely for him to do so. “You really shouldn’t let her talk to you like that.” She looked down at her fingers, her hair covering her face. “I'm used to it, besides, Olivia is a queen bee around here, everyone likes her, she's like the pack's sweetheart. Heck, we all thought Jacob was going to make her his Luna Prime before you came along.” I parted my lips when she pushed her hair to the side, pushing Olivia’s sitting arrangement’s paper closer to me. "This is all wrong, Olivia definitely wants to sabotage you because Alpha Blake and Alpha Lucien cannot be seated next to each other under any condition, they'll kill each other before the ball ends." She uttered. "Figures, it would be stupid to place two warring alphas next to each other." I muttered, jotting down that point. I could still remember the conversation Jacob and Tony had a few days back. She pointed to another table with the different names scribbled around. "Good, also, Alpha Shane's Luna can't sit next to Alpha Derek's Beta, she's a germaphobe and Derek's beta has no idea what hygiene is." “Noted.” I muttered, watching as she pointed out several sitting arrangements that would have probably led to a war in Jacob's continent. A war was however not what I wanted, I just wanted him dead. “You also have to know the names of each of the Alphas, their mates and their betas. I made you a chart so it'll be easy.” She unfolded the chart for me. I raised a brow at it, massaging my temples. I was already developing a headache. I spied the black card next to my pen and a smirk crept onto my lips. What better way to get rid of the headache than to bleed Jacobs' account dry? I got up, Delilah trailing off as I closed the notebook in front of me and picked up my phone and the card. "Uh... what's going on?" She inquired. "I'm bored, let's go shopping." I replied. "B... but... the prep..." "Can wait, come on, besides I have to get a dress for the event so think of it as doing something still related to it." I replied, she looked sceptical before sighing and closing her binder. "I guess so. Do you want me to have a car brought to the front." "Yes please, I'll go get my bag." I replied, making my way up the stairs to my room. I got all that I needed and headed downstairs to the front door. Delilah was waiting by a silver Mercedes saloon. I noticed another car with a couple of men behind ours. "What's going on?" I inquired. Delilah shifted from one foot to another, an uneasy look in her eyes. “Prime says the guards are to follow us.” She whispered. I clenched my jaw, sighing before opening the door to the car. "Great, just great." I got in and she followed me. I watched as she instructed the driver to take us to the mall in town. The drive was quiet and I spent the time thinking of what was going to happen tonight. I would finally be done with Jacob, I also wondered, if I was able to escape what would I do with my life? For nine years all I did was plot and plot Jacob Mont Blanc's demise. Sighing, I pushed the thoughts out of my head, it was best not to get ahead of myself. First things first... I had to kill him. Anything else was secondary. **** When we arrived at the mall, I let Delilah lead the way while the guards tried their best to be inconspicuous, which was stupid because it didn’t work because it was odd to see heavily built scary looking men loitering around. She led me into a boutique. "This is where most of us shop." Delilah explained. I looked around. I could literally buy this whole place and it won't make a dent in his account. "I want to check out another shop." I replied, turning around and walked out of the shop. Delilah ran after me as I looked at the different boutiques until I came to a stop. Perfect.. "Uh... Ms Adelaide..." Delilah whispered. "This is perfect." I replied, making my way in, a woman dressed in a black knee length dress, walked over to us, a practised smile on her lips. "Welcome to House Nardin, my name is Samantha, how can I help you?" She inquired. "Hello Samantha, I'm looking for an outfit for a formal event." I explained. "Oh you've come to the perfect place, this way." She led us through the boutique which had warm lights, it was quiet unlike the rest of the mall, I could hear classical music playing. She opened a door that led to a private lounge area. "Please sit." She said as we walked in, gesturing to the beautiful soft arm chairs. I settled on the beautiful white sofa, Delilah glanced around, perching on the edge. "An attendant will be with you in a moment but for now, would you like some tea or coffee?" She inquired. "I'll have tea, hold the sugar." I replied, turning to Delilah. "What are you going to have?" She shifted, fiddling with her shirt. "Uh... I... I'll just have water." She replied. She nodded and walked off, as soon as the door was closed, Delilah turned to me. "Ms Adelaide I really don't think we should be here." She whispered. I looked down at my nails. "Why?" I asked, a bored tone to my voice. I already knew what she was about to say. "This place is really expensive!!!" That's the whole point Delilah. "I'm sure we can get a formal dress somewhere else and it'll be more affordable." She continued. I had to refrain myself from rolling my eyes. "You know what, you're right." I replied, picking up my bag. "W-what?" Delilah stuttered. "I said you're right, we can definitely get something cheaper somewhere else. I mean it's just a prestigious event for the North American Alpha Prime. I'm sure he'll appreciate his Luna Prime showing up in a cheap knockoff." I replied, standing. "Wait... no, that's not what I meant." She protested, scrambling to her feet. "Maybe we can even get some shoes from the dollar store, I've heard about them and I definitely want to check them out, this will be the perfect opportunity." I suggested, heading to the door. "No! Ms Adelaide... fine!!! You can shop here." I bit back a smirk, turning to her, a smile on my lips. "I'm so glad you see this my way." I said just as the door opened and a woman walked in with a tray followed by another woman. She placed the tray containing a fancy teapot, a tea cup and a plate of scones. I sat back down, making my tea. "Good afternoon ladies, my name is Vanessa. I will be your attendant for today." She introduced. "So what type of gown are you looking to buy?" If I had my way, One stained with Jacob's blood. "I don't have any preference." I answered, she nodded. "What about the budget?" Oh now we're talking. "I don't have a limited budget." I replied, smiling. Her eyes widened and I heard Delilah choke on a scone in the background. "Any colour choice?" "Black." She nodded, heading to the door. "Oh Vanessa?" I called out. "Yes?" She turned back to me. "The more expensive the gown is, the better." I suggested. She smiled, her eyes sparkling as she literally floated out the door. I turned to Delilah who was still choking on the scone. I picked up one of the bottled water, stretching it out. "Water?" She scowled at me, her coughs subsiding. "The more expensive, the better..." She hissed. I shrugged, unapologetic and uncaring. Vanessa came back a few minutes later holding several black gowns. She hung on the rack before turning to me. "Shall we begin?" "Yes." I replied, she wheeled the rack into the changing room, I flashed Delilah a smile as I headed in. Vanessa left me alone and I changed into the first black dress. It was a figure hugging with a plunging neckline. I ran my hands along the dress, feeling the luxurious silk. I stepped out. Vanessa and Delilah let out gasps as I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked amazing. "Oh Eda, that's a beautiful dress." Delilah whispered. I smiled at her before turning to Vanessa. "How much is this?" "This is a $25,000 dress." She replied. "On second thought... I don't like it. Let's try another." I made my way back to the changing room. Vanessa followed me in and I turned to her. “What's the most expensive dress on this rack?” “uh, $30,000” She answered. I let out a sigh, taking a seat, a sad look on my face. "I want something exclusive, something unique, this is a really important event for me. I have to look my absolute best" I explained, she shifted in her shoes. “But if you aren't up for the challenge then I guess I'll have to find another” "I can talk to my director and see if we can show you the unreleased collection from Vera Cruz." She blurted out, eyes wide. I bit back a smug smile, instead looked at her with all the hope and excitement I could muster which was easy. I mean If there was anything that would put a dent it would be an unreleased collection. "Oh please do, it would mean the world to me." I watched her leave before the smirk fell into place. Changing into the robe they had set out for me, I made my way back to Delilah. “I thought you were going to try another?” She inquired. “Yeah, but I changed my mind.” I replied, taking a bite of the scones. My phone buzzed and I fished it out of my bag, it was a message from Liam. L- How are you holding up? -pretty good, I'm out shopping for a banquet. I chuckled knowing he was probably gaping at his phone trying to comprehend the message. L- Shopping… Did you hit your head or something? I thought you were planning murder and not playing Luna Prime. -I'm not… The plan is still in motion. But I can't be too uncooperative or else everything will be ruined. L- I guess, I just want this to be over so we can go back home. -Same here Liam, same here. The door opened and Vanessa walked in with two other women, one was pulling a rack that had several clothing bags attached to it. “This is Lydia, the director. Lydia, this is Adelaide and Delilah.” She introduced. Lydia walked over as I stood up, shaking her outstretched hand. “I heard you were interested in Vera Cruz's unreleased collection?” “Yes, I want something unique.” I replied, feeling Delilah's shocked gaze on me. “Well you're in luck because I spoke to Vera and she has given us full permission to showcase it to you.” She informed me. I smiled, looking at Delilah. “Isn't that just wonderful, Delilah?” Her smile was strained and she could only nod in reply. “Well then, let's try them on.” ******** ********** ********** "I'll take the whole collection." I announced as soon as I tried on the last one.I heard Delilah gasp while Vanessa and Lydia's eyes widened in shock. "T-the whole collection?" Vanessa stuttered. I glanced at her, an eyebrow raised. "Yes, is there a problem with that?" I inquired. The director shook her head, taking a step forward. "Of course not. Will there be anything else you would like to add?" I tilted my head to the side, before smiling. "Matching jewelleries for each dress." I replied. "Shoes and bags too" I looked at Delilah through the mirror, the poor girl was probably going to work herself into a panic attack from how much I was planning on spending. "Delilah?" "Y-yes Ms Adelaide." She answered. I smiled at her, gesturing to the former rack. "You're also attending the event, you should definitely get a dress or two, we should also get some for Ivanka too." I added, noticing the look of pure panic in her eyes. A part of me felt bad but I stamped it down. "Uh.. Ms Adelaide, I... I really don't think it's a good idea, besides... my m-mum and I, we already gave dresses for the occasion." She stuttered, her legs bouncing. "Oh come on Delilah, are you going to refuse a gift from me?" I asked, turning to face her, a small frown on my lips, my hand on my chest,I could feel the disapproving glances from the director, Vanessa and another attendant towards her. She swallowed hard, getting to her feet. "I guess I can take a look." She whispered. "Great!!! Get her a matching jewellery, a purse and shoes for whatever she chooses." I instructed, stepping down from the platform. I changed back into my outfit just as they brought in several boxes of jewellery, while Delilah was ushered into the changing room. "These are some that we think will fit the dresses." The director explained, as Vanessa placed them on a table. I smirked, by the time I was done, Jacob would regret this, then again, he'd be dead before he fully regrets it.
