JACOB
I tapped my pen against the long conference table, my eyes moving from Blake and Lucien
"The border for my pack's land starts from the old large cedar tree!!! It has always been like that for centuries!!" Blake thundered.
"Not only are you a liar, you're also delusional!! That Cedar tree is nothing if not 50 years old, the border starts from the old well!" Lucien shot back.
I closed my eyes, massaging my temple and letting out a long breath through my nose. The door to the conference room opened and I looked up to see Tony walking in.
"Apologies for interrupting your meeting." He said, walking over to me, holding his phone. "Joe's been trying to reach you."
I frowned, wondering what my accountant wanted. Taking the phone from Tony, I got to my feet, about to go to my office when I turned back to the two squabbling alphas.
"Listen up you two"
They looked up at me, eyes wide at the tone of my voice.
"When I come back here and you both can't get your inflated egos out of your ass' and come to a peaceful resolution, I'll remove you two as pack Alphas and appoint Tony's seven year old niece and nephew as Alphas, I'm sure they can do a better job running the packs than you two." I snapped, making my way into my office, not sparing them another glance. Tony followed me in, closing the door behind him.
"Joe?" I answered.
"Greetings Prime, there are some highly unusual activities going on with your AMeX card." He explained.
"Unusual activities?"
"Yes, from House Nardin."
Oh that little minx.
I picked up my tablet.
"Send me a live feed of the sale." I instructed, accessing my email.
"Done."
I tapped on the link, opening and scrolling through the details of each purchase.
Impressive, pet...
"Do you want me to put a stop to it, Prime?" Joe asked.
"No, let it be." I replied, hanging up just as Tony let out a curse.
"f**k me... did she just spend a million and a half dollars on eight dresses?!" He uttered, eyes trained on the screen.
"Two million actually."
"What the f**k?!"
"Does House Nardin have any affiliation with Seth Nardin?" I inquired.
"Uh... yes, I think so." Tony replied, still staring at the screen. I grabbed my phone off the table and dialled Seth's number. He answered immediately.
"Good afternoon Mr Mont Blanc"
"Good afternoon, Seth." I replied, watching as the total amount increased as two bags were added to the feed.
"How can I help you?" He asked.
"Do you own House Nardin?" I inquired.
"Yes sir, it belongs to my wife." He answered.
"Perfect, I need your help with something."
"Of course Mr Mont Blanc."
*****
By the time I ended the call, Tony had turned his attention to me, his mouth agape.
"I know this is your money Jacob but what the hell man?!!"
I switched off the tab, walking over to him and patting his shoulder.
"This isn't about the money, Tony."
With that, I brushed past him and headed back to my conference room where the two errant alphas were seated.
"So?" They jumped at my voice. "Have you two reached a resolution or will I make history by having the two youngest Alphas on my continent?"
They shifted in their seats before nodding.
"Perfect, let's have it." I replied, taking a seat though my mind was more interested in what her reaction was going to be.
ADELAIDE
"I think we are almost done here." I stated, an exhausted yet satisfied smile on my lips, I detested shopping and this had been torture yet the mental image of Jacob losing millions of dollars made me happy. Delilah had given up on trying to protest and was seated quietly, probably worrying over how Jacob would flip when we got back to the pack.
If only he would get so angry, have a stroke and die.
"There's the last jewellery set, the one you asked for a replacement?" Vanessa replied.
Oh, alright." I said, sitting. The door opened and the director walked in, followed by another attendant who was holding a black case. She set it on the table in front of me and opened it to reveal a beautiful diamond and emerald encrusted bracelet and necklace set.
Wait a minute...
"This isn't what I asked for." I whispered, yet unable to take my eyes off it.
"Yes, this is from our vault. Mr Mont Blanc asked us to add it to your purchase. It's one of our exclusive jewellery sets as you only deserve the best from us. His words, not ours." She explained, a giddy smile on her lips.
That f*****g bastard!!!!
I clenched my fists, trying everything to stop myself from screaming my rage. I could feel everyone's eyes on me so I forced a smile that was more teeth than anything.
"That's so... kind of him." I muttered, already over the entire shopping experience.
Asshole
I watched as everything was taken out of the room, Delilah and I followed Vanessa out to checkout where I paid.
"Thank you for shopping with us. It was a pleasure and we hope to see you again."
The guards came over, taking the shopping bags. I could barely keep up the smile, my mood completely ruined. We got into the car and I closed my eyes, sighing.
"Well that was fun." Delilah muttered, I ignored her, staring out the window. The drive back to the pack was a quiet one with me stewing in my thoughts. The only thing that soothed my anger was the assurance that Jacob was going to die tonight.
"Thank you for the dresses." She said as the car came to a stop in front of her house. I smiled at her, watching as she got out, a guard helping her with her bags
"No need to thank me." I replied.
"I'll see you tomorrow so we can continue with the planning.”
Planning a funeral
“Of course.”
The car continued on towards Jacob's cottage when I noticed a familiar face.
“Stop the car” I ordered, getting out before the car came to a stop. Samara was making her way to the pack square.
“Samara!” I called out. I didn't understand why but I couldn’t get the hurt look in her eyes from my mind. I wanted to make things right before everything went to s**t. She turned, the light in her eyes dimming at the sight of me.
“Luna Prime” She bowed.
“Please don’t do that.” I whispered, taking a step closer to her. She took a step back, a stiff smile on her lips. I ran my fingers through my hair.
“Look Samara, I… I'm… what happened, I didn't mean to deceive or use you, Jacob and I, we just… there's a lot of bad blood and…”
“I became a tool for you to use against him.” She said, shaking her head.
“The Alpha Prime has been extremely good to me, it hurts me that you would use me to harm him.” She continued. “Now if you will excuse me, I have to get going.”
She bowed before walking off leaving me standing there, shocked and speechless. Jacob was the bad person and here she was, talking to me as if I had committed the worst crime ever. I reached up, grimacing and massaging a sore spot on my chest
I didn't like how her words were having an effect on me.
I got back into the car, all these wouldn't matter in the morning. The thought brought me a semblance of calmness.
******
I stepped into the foyer, the guards trudged in after me with the bags. I made my way to the kitchen to get a cup of water. The weather was incredibly hot, something I wasn't used to. I let out a moan, pressing the cold glass to my cheek, my eyes fluttering close.
“I'm so tired.” I whispered.
“If I knew shopping was all that it took to sap you of your energy and fight, I would have done that ages ago.”
A strangled scream left my lips and I almost dropped the glass cup.
“What the hell is your problem?!” I snapped, glaring at him. He was leaning against the door frame, arms folded over his chest, eyes on me. I craved to wipe the smug smile on his lips away.
“How did the shopping go? Were you able to achieve your goal?” He asked, all the rage that I thought was gone came back in full force and I felt the glass begin to crunch under my grip.
Calm yourself Adelaide… you are too close to your goal to ruin it.
So I relaxed my grip and placed the cup in the sink before making my way to him, taking the card out of my bag.
“I have no idea what you're talking about.” I replied, reaching up, about to slip the card into the breast pocket of his Oxford shirt. A gasp escaped my lips when he seized my hand, the room spinning for a second when he spun me around, pressing me against the door frame. His hand pinning my wrists to the wall, while his other hand rested on my abdomen.
“Will you be granting me a fashion show then? I mean it is fair after your petty attempts to bankrupt me.” He asked, softly. I had to fight the moan that threatened to bubble out at the feel of his hand on the skin of my stomach,
“Who knows, I may just have a surprise for you later.” I whispered back. His eyes dropped to my lips and I watched as they flashed red, before turning into a deep amber colour.
“You're playing a dangerous game here, pet, you might lose.”
His thumb caressed my skin, sending pleasure through my entire body.
Oh Eda, I have never wanted to lose so badly.
My thoughts came to a screeching halt
WHAT THE ACTUAL f**k ADELAIDE?!
I shoved him off, glaring at him.
“What the hell are you trying to do?!” I demanded, he must have used some sort of power to get me to act that way. He raised a brow at me.
“Not denying what my body wants, I can't say the same for you.” He answered. My eyes narrowed and I took a step towards him.
“I will never in my right senses want you.” I snarled, throwing the card at him before storming to my room, furious at him and my traitorous body.
Damn you Jacob Mont Blanc!!! Damn you to f*****g hell.
****
I stayed in my room until it was almost time for dinner. I rifled through the bags, thinking of which to wear. Jacob was dying tonight and I planned on dressing up. I mean it's not everyday a cold blooded murderer dies and I wanted to look my absolute best.
“Luna Prime?”
I turned to see Willow standing by the door, I smiled, getting to my feet.
“Willow, I was expecting you.”
She smiled, taking a step towards me. I knew she was still under my influence. I walked over to the drawer and opened the box, I had stopped wearing the ring fearing it would catch his attention. I popped out the gem and handed it to her.
“Remember the plan?” I inquired, a hand on her shoulder.
“Yes, Luna Prime.” She replied, nodding. I smiled at her.
“Good, see you at dinner.”
I watched her leave before uncontrollable laughter bubbled out of me, I felt euphoric, it was finally happening. Jacob was going to die tonight.
*****
I made my way downstairs, dressed in a beautiful black velvet shoulder-hugging off-shoulder sleeve gown with a fitted bodice and a high front slit. The low neckline offered a peak of my cleavage. I had paired it with a garnet red drop earrings and necklace with a teardrop pendant that rested between my cleavage. My lips painted a sinful red colour while I had put my hair in a chignon.
The guard looked up as I approached the dining room doors, his eyes widening at the sight of me before he hastily looked away.
“Luna Prime.” He greeted, bowing. I acknowledged him with a nod, pushing the doors open and walking in. Jacob and Tony who were having a conversation, looked up, their conversation long forgotten.
“Gentlemen” I greeted, Jacob got to his feet, his eyes on me.
“Tony?”
“Yeah?” Tony replied, staring at me in awe.
“Get out.”
He didn't waste another second, striding out before Jacob decided he was taking too long and kicked him out. I didn't take my eyes off Jacob even as he approached me. He came to a stop in front of me and I looked up at him, meeting his gaze while he drank me in.
“What game are you playing at Adelaide?” He asked softly.
I should cut his tongue right now, my name has no business sounding that good on his tongue.
“Game? I just want to have dinner. Can't a girl get dressed for dinner anymore?” I inquired, furrowing my brows, my lips pouting. His eyes immediately moved to them and I could see his amber coloured eyes dilate as he leaned closer, his hand coming to rest on my waist.
“Or maybe we could skip dinner and have dessert?” He whispered into my ear, his tongue darting out to run along the shell of my ear. My knees buckled and my hand shot out to grab his jacket. I looked up at him, his eyes were the same colour as my jewellery set.
Oh Eda…
I swallowed hard, the heat from his hand was seeping through the velvety material of the gown and into my skin. It was addictive and I found myself craving more. His head dipped to the column of my neck, his lips grazing the skin, my eyes drifted close as I let him continue.
Let me in
Oh Goddess.. how I wanted to let him in.
That's it pet, stop fighting me.
I don't want to fight him… I'm tired of fighting him…
I could feel a small part screaming at me but the pleasurable haze felt too good.
It's been far too long hasn't it?
Oh yes… you have no idea…
His arms wrapped around my waist, crushing me to his hard body as he nipped and sucked on my neck. I ran my fingers through his hair, moaning softly.
The small part of me grew louder, I tried to ignore it and focus on Jacob Mont Blanc's kisses…
WAIT!!!
My eyes flew open, using all my strength, I shoved him away. He stumbled a few feet away before he caught himself, his hair and eyes were wild. I gripped onto the table, trying to catch my breathing.
We stared at each other and all I wanted to do was flee back to my room. Instead I forced myself to calm down and sit on my chair. He adjusted his jacket and did the same.
The maids filed in, placing covered plates on the table in front of us. I opened my dish, looking down at the seared salmon, potatoes and sautéed vegetables. I dug in, the salmon was tender and fell apart in my mouth, not that I was particularly hungry after what had just happened. I could still feel his lips on my skin.
He'll be dead in a few minutes…
"I take it the food is to your liking."
I glanced up at him.
"It's satisfactory." I replied, wiping my mouth with the napkin before taking a sip of my drink. My eyes moved to Willow as she stepped forward, holding a pitcher that contained the bræw. He held out his cup and she poured it in. My lips curled up in a smirk, excitement coursing through my veins, I hid the expression on my face with my cup. He placed the cup on the table, taking another bite of his steak.
Drink it already!
Willow stepped back, completely oblivious that she had played a major part in poisoning her Alpha Prime.
"How is the banquet preparation going? Olivia mentioned she was helping you plan." His voice drew me out of my thoughts. I cleared my throat, forcing a smile.
"Yes, she has definitely been helpful."
Helpful my ass!!!
The brat wants to sabotage me, fortunately for her, I won't be around for the ball that was never going to happen, instead they would hold a funeral in place. I watched as he took another bite of his food before reaching for his goblet.
Finally
I had to stop myself from leaning forward in anticipation. He lifted it up to his lips, his eyes slicing over to me.
"How about a toast" He suggested.
Ugh!!! Fine
"Sure." I replied, lifting my glass up.
"To new beginnings."
To your death
"To new beginnings." I echoed, taking a sip watching as the rim of the goblet neared his lips.
Yes... just a little sip...
"Willow?"
I had to bite my lip to stop a frustrated groan from escaping. She stepped forward, still holding the pitcher. His eyes met mine as he stretched out the goblet to her.
"Drink."
Sh.it!!
He knew...
Fu.ck!!!
Fu.ck!!! Fu.ck!!!
I clenched my jaw, stopping myself from reacting. Willow was under his pack, he definitely wouldn't let her drink it since he knows it's poisoned.
"A-Alpha Prime?" She stuttered, looking confused at his request. He looked away from me to stare at her.
"You seem parched, so have a drink." He repeated. She shifted, clearly confused before placing the pitcher on the table and taking the goblet from him. He turned his attention back to me, I dug my nails into the sides of my chair.
He was baiting me... challenging me... he wouldn’t let her drink it.
I watched as she stared at the goblet, my heart slamming against my chest...
He wanted me to out myself... but I wouldn’t because he wouldn’t let her drink the poisoned bræw... right?
She raised it to her lips about to take a sip.
"STOP!!!" I cried out, surging up, the chair toppling over in the process. She lowered the goblet, glancing at me, a frown on her lips.
"Drop the goblet and excuse us." He instructed her. She did as he asked, closing the doors behind her.
"Poison... that's impressive." He began, getting to his feet, pouring the contents of the goblet into the pitcher before bringing it with him as he approached me. I looked up at him, wondering what he was going to do. He stopped in front of me, curling a finger underneath my chin and forcing me to look at him.
"If you want to kill me, pet, you're going to have to try harder." He whispered, emptying the contents of the pitcher on the ground before brushing past me and out of the dining room. I stared at the table, my mind unable to comprehend what had just happened.
I had failed… no… no… this couldn't be happening.
How did he find out?!
Confusion and rage bubbled within me, frothing and boiling, I felt trapped, unable to breath and when I thought I couldn't take the mounting pressure anymore, an enraged scream escaped my lips. I swiped the plate and glass cups off the table, they crashed to the floor, shattering on impact yet it did nothing to subdue my anger. I flipped the table, watching it crash against the wall.
My harsh breathing filled the room, hot angry tears filled my eyes.
This couldn't be it… he can't win, he just couldn't. My hand circled a shard of broken plate. Silverstone would not go unavenged. I would find another way to end him, I had to.
