ELENA’s POV
Now that the time for me to go outside was nearing, I was very nervous. I kept feeling like something big was set to happen for me tonight. I felt like I had something to look forward to even though I didn't quite know what it was.
I couldn’t dress up for the occasion because no one would see me so I wore my jeans and my crop top. Even though I hadn’t been outside for a long time and I didn’t really have a clue on what was hot and in style as far as clothes were concerned, but I had a cousin who did and she always made sure to bring me some hot fashion whenever she went shopping in the city.
As the sun was setting, I also set on my way outside the Palace using the back entrance that led to the forest. My father had made it a law in our village that no one went into the forest whenever it was the day of the fire moon so I would get the whole forest all to myself. This was the only night that I could feel free before the rest of my days would feel lonely and empty inside.
That made me sad because that made me feel like I was a prisoner in my own Father's house.
I made my way into the forest and I could feel the moon reflect on my skin as it got hot and I could feel my eyes changing color. I often experienced the fire moon a little different from the others because in a way I always felt like it was connected to me somehow. After turning into my phoenix form and flying closer to it I often felt one with it and the feeling was the most amazing thing I had ever felt.
A day like this did wonders to my body, they called it the curse of the phoenix but it had started to feel more like a blessing over the years and I had begun embracing it. My father never forgot to warn me to not allow the power to get into my head and corrupt me but I had too much love to ever be corrupt. I always got the feeling that my father was afraid of something else he didn't want me to know about so he would lie to me and act like my phoenix was a bad thing to cover something else up. The truth was, I had never hurt anyone in my whole life and I knew that I would never do that.
I walked deeper and deeper into the forest until I reached the waterfall that was right at the edge of the forest and it gave me a clear view of the moon with no obstruction by trees. I set the bag that had my clothes and blanket aside and sat down as I looked up into the sky. It was so beautiful out here and if anyone needed to think this would be the perfect spot to think. But then again, I was always by myself and I always had time to think even when I didn't want to, I could never escape myself no matter how hard I tried.
I decided to take a dip in the water as I waited for the moon to be at its peak, I was feeling too hot and I needed to cool down. I started humming my favorite song as I swam around and played with the water then I suddenly heard something moving in the small bushes nearby.
NEIL’S POV
She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and my wolf had finally found our mate. Her voice was like a thousand angels singing in harmony only she was the only one in the water, her eyes were a fiery red, and her hair long and golden. Her skin was flawless and milky and she looked like she had just stepped out of heaven. I sat behind the bushes and watched her as she swam around and played with the water, I didn’t know the song she was singing but I knew the melody would stick to me for a very long time. It was a song like no other and I wished I could listen to it over and over again but as soon as she realized I was watching her she stopped singing and looked back at me startled
“Who is there?” she asked as she sensed my presence, but that wasn’t the question here. The question was who was she? And where had she come from because I had never seen such a beauty in this kingdom
“come out now” she demanded her voice still sounding as if she was singing even though she was talking, how was this possible?
“I apologize, my angel, I didn’t mean to startle you,” I said as turned and put on my clothes and then stepped out of the bushes
“Mate” she whispered as she got out of the water as if she had been hypnotized by my scent as I was by her melodic voice and her scent.
“Yes I have finally found you" I whispered as she got closer to me and when she tried to touch me I felt like I had been hit by lighting and she immediately let go.
“That burns,” I said as I looked at my burnt fingers that were now healing
“I am sorry, I didn’t mean to” she apologized and Although I couldn't understand what had just happened, I didn't question her because I was still caught up in the moment.
“I would go through that a million lifetimes if it meant that I get to touch you,” I said and she blushed “my name is Neil” I added
“My name is Elena,” she said
“Your voice my dear Elena sounds like angels singing to me, your skin is so beautiful, what sorcery is this?” I asked
“Ok Shakespeare, are you poetic or you are just trying to score some points with me?” she teased and we both laughed."because if you are I will have you know is not going to work on me, I was smitten from the moment I laid my eyes on you" she added
She sat down on the grass and I sat next to her and we spoke about nothing and everything. This was the feeling that I had been missing and this was the feeling that I had been longing for forever since I was born.
I knew today would be a great day from the moment I woke up and I had just been proven right.
ELENA’S POV
I looked up at the sky and realized that it was almost time and I would turn anytime from now.
“I am so sorry Neil, but I have to go. It’s not safe for me or you” I said as I grabbed my bag and started running but stopped when I realized he was running after me and he was quickly catching up.
“Don’t worry nothing will happen to us” he said calmly and that was because he didn't know the type of danger I was referring to
“Please my father will...” I stopped as I realized that I had started sweating and my temperature was rapidly increasing. “Please don’t follow me” I pleaded
“Only if you promise me that you will meet me here again tomorrow,” he asked and I could see the longing clear in his eyes and the truth was I also wanted to see him twice as badly as he did
“Yes I will meet you back here tomorrow at midnight,” I said and even though I knew that I would be taking a risk by meeting him here, I couldn’t wait to meet him and hear his voice one more time even if I would have to break all of my father's rules that were meant to keep me safe. But I knew I needed to be with my mate more than I needed to keep my father's rules.
