The Celebration

I wake up with a satisfied smile on my lips. I look at the dress hanging on the wall as I look at my reflection in that mirror. Everything is ready and all I will have to do is to head to my class and then return home to get ready for that party. I only hope I will meet many well-known people at that party.   “This is it Sonia, breeze yourself for I Zorenia will rock this party for us.” I utter with an evil smile as I look at my reflection in the mirror.   I smile as I stop in front of the door to my class. What will be the children’s trick today to catch me? I smile when with the use of my witch ability I have seen what is waiting for me inside. I take my umbrella that I placed on the stand beside the door and slowly twist the knob of the door. I step in and open my umbrella just in time for flour and egg to drop from the ceiling.   “Tsk tsk tsk, what a waste of flour and eggs. We could have used that to bake something. Betty dear, I supposed you know what you have to do now.” I said as I close the umbrella while shaking it for the flour powder to drop.   “Greetings Miss Witman.” the others utter as they stop on their track from entering the room and look around the room seeing that mess.   “Greetings to you too, you can come in and walk to your seats.” I said looking at those who are first in the classroom.   I walk towards my table and place my books on top of the desk and before I sit on my chair I take it and place it on the side before it falls with one leg cut. The door opens revealing some of the students who are walking in late.   “That is dangerous you know. That can break someone’s bones. Anyway, as usual… children you have to clean the room as punishment. I want all of you to know that in this classroom the sin of one will be the sin of all, punishment of one will be a punishment of all. SO, if you don’t want that please stop your classmate before they start doing something bad.” I said with a cold stare at them as I cross my arm on my chest and I see the others utter their annoyance.   “Betty you must stop already. We all just want to have a peaceful time in this classroom. We are always cleaning because of you.” one of the girls utter as Catherine starts handing cleaning tools to the others.   I stand there and watch them clean as Betty looks so quilty as she helps the others unlike at first that she always remain on her sit and being grumpy. When they finish their task I let them head to the bathroom to clean themselves and when they all return we start the class.    “Okay class that is all for today, I hope you all can do your homework. I will paste tomorrow on the wall all your papers for you to see what you had done last week. Have a nice evening and goodbye class.” I said as I fix the papers on my table.   “So you tomorrow Miss Witman, have a nice evening.” the class said as they all happily walk out of the room.   I look at Betty as she silently walks out of the room with her friends. She is becoming so withdrawn lately and doing those tricks to me is the only way she gets active so I never get her to the headmistress. I have to do something for that little girl before it is too late. I take a deep breath. I can see darkness surrounding her and it becomes worst and worst every time she will head home for the weekend so I guess something bad must be happening back at her home.   “I think I should talk to her tomorrow. She might be just like Catherine.” I said with a sigh when someone knocks on the door and when I look I see the Headmistress looking as cold and serious as usual.   “Looks like Betty did it again Miss Witman. Are you not going to report her, she is making her friends work in their classroom cleaning her mess. Surely the other parents will feel bad about this.” The Headmistress said as she walks inside followed by that secretary Annabella who look as boring as ever.   “That little girl will soon come by don’t worry too much Headmistress. Do you have something to tell me? It is rare for you to visit rooms, so I suppose you have something to tell me.” I ask as I stand and face the Headmistress.   “You really are an amazing young lady Miss Witman, you are right I came to hand you something. Here, Gresela’s parents want you to have this. It is like a gift for changing their little girl’s attitude. I don’t know what is in it but they said it is a gift.” The headmistress said handing me an envelope that has a red seal like a family insignia.   “Thank you for coming all the way here just to hand me this.” I said as I take that grayish envelop from her hand.   “Oh yes, I heard you got invited to join the celebration in the Lord Mayor’s house. You should go home to get yourself ready. I will be seeing you there Miss Witman.” the Head Mistress said with her stern and cold tone and I just smile when I see that surprise in Annabella’s eyes as she looks at me.   “Yes Head Mistress, I will be seeing you there then. Have a nice evening a well… and you to Annabella.” I said with a smile as I bow at the Head Mistress and head out of the room leaving the two there as I give a smirk.   I walk out of the school with a smile as I look at that grayish envelope. Well of course, with the help of a little witchery on my side luck is coming at me without me forcing it. As the matter of fact, the reason why people are kind to me is that my witch ability is making me overflowing to be noticed by people, or in short, my witch charms is enchanting everyone to like me. I have cheated because if we wait for so long my sweet revenge on Sonia’s so-called father, half-sister and that wicked Lady Cornelia will just be a dream.   “Zorenia, are you done there?” I heard my mother calling out to me as I look at my reflection in the mirror.   I am wearing a pink dress mixed with lavender and white color. I design this myself and my mother helps me sew it together. Their dresses are like mine and I know we will be so different from those who will attend the celebration. Of course, the plan is to gain as much attention but pertained that it is not deliberately done. With my hair slightly curled and tied on a ribbon behind me with some of it freely hanging on my back. The dress I am wearing has a V-shape neckline that is off-shoulder that even my mother asks why I go for this weird style. I smile as I look at my reflection from that hand mirror. I put on the last touch in my look, women in this era use make up to but in a rather heavy one with their too-white face and so heavy blush on that is like a dot on their cheeks and a lipstick that is like a heart shape on their lips. BUT since I am from the 21st century that knows how to use makeup in a different way I only use a light powder on my face, a nicely done pinkish blush on and a little red tint on the inner side of my lips. With my look, many women will surely hate or think bad about me. But of course, with a little witchery, those proud women will have to back down.   “Zorenia!” I heard my mother call again.   “Be down in a minute.” I said as I put on my pink sandal with a 1-inch heel.   It is kind of weird the styles of women's shoes in this era. It is not like in the 21st century. Their shoes here are the kind that will force your feet to look smaller. It is a little painful for me but it is a relief that this is Sonia’s body because if in my body as Zorenia it will be too impossible because I am like a giant as what they keep on calling me there, a pig at that. I take a deep breath remembering my not-so-good life in the 21st century. I walk out of my room taking my purse and placing it into the pocket of my inside skirt that I deliberately ask my mother to make. I walk down to the stairs to see mother and Elena who look at me surprised upon seeing me.   “Wow, Zorenia… you look- you look so beautiful.” they said and I just smile, for the first time someone called me beautiful, and coming to the person I call now as my mother, it sure is satisfying and self-boosting.   My mother back in my previous life is nothing like Helen. I don’t know if she loves me or not but she is like the person who is not so showing to what she feels. She appears to be cold and strict to me. Rather than telling me to exercise or diet she will keep on comparing me to other girls out there with nice figures and nice careers. Rather than saying you can do it, she will say I doubt it that you can do it. Well, mothers are so different in many ways. I do love my mother for giving me life but… if she really wanted me to succeed in life she should be my number one cheerer. Anyways moving back to my previous life in Sonia’s body, when we walk out of the house a carriage is there waiting for us sent by the captain.   “Are you ready for this?” I ask my mother and Elena who look at the doorstep of the Mayor’s house where many people in their glamorous party attires are chatting and talking to the host who is welcoming them in.   “Yes- Yes I supposed.” my mother said as she looks at herself as if she is feeling down to herself.   A man reaches his hand towards my mother who is next to the carriage’s opening. My mother takes his offer and she walks out of the carriage and I see how many people are looking in our direction.   “Is that Madam Witman, the one who is working on that famous shop? She has a lovely dress.” I heard the ladies' whispers and I can see my mother looking so conscious about her own self when she sees those people looking at her.   The next one who walks down the carriage is Elena who also gains the attention of people, like I said our dress is somewhat on my own design. It is a mixture of 18th century and 21st-century style. It is not like those other women’s gown that looks like it is hard to breathe and hard to move to with those strings or steel-hooped cage inside to maintain the blooming shape. Our dress is without string and easy to move into. Mother and Elena are not wearing any heavy make-up of some sort, unlike those ladies who are looking towards mother and Elena.   “Hmmm I like this already. It is working.” I utter softly to myself before I slowly take the hand of the man reaching towards me and graciously walk down the carriage earning some gasps and surprised gazed from everyone even those who are standing on the other side.   ‘That’s it; get hypnotized by Sonia’s witching charms.’ I said to myself with an evil grin.   “Is that the young Miss Witman? Isn’t she that teacher in that famous boarding school?” a woman asks as she looks at me and covers her mouth with her fan as if I am not going to hear what she just said.   “Ahh Madam Witman, young Miss Witman, and young Elena… it is good to see that you made it.” the Mayor said as he walks towards my mother looking at her with a different gaze before he looks at me with a smile.   I smile as he guides us into his house while all eyes are following us. When we enter the door into the wide living room that was cleared to make space for the celebration the music stop and they all look towards us while the Mayor is holding my mother’s hand.
