I hide my baggage between two walls so nobody can see it and then I leave my room.
My magic helps me mask my appearance and makes me invisible until the minute when I’m downstairs. It looks like I arrived in the car and I have entered the mansion with the main door.
It’s eight o’clock precisely when I walk to the main hall. I look around pretending to be unaware of where should I go.
When people notice me, they stare at me not even trying to deny it or hide it. When I reach the back of the great hall, all eyes are already hooked on me. Creatures and all participants stop dancing, feasting or chatting. They just gaze at me. My every move is watched with admiration and jealousy. I don’t look at them, I search for someone particular.
“And now, please, let me say a few words” the king announces publicly to steal all the atention. I hear him from the distance, but I follow his voice.
All dancers clear the way when they see me while whispering or chattering indistinctly.
When I make few more steps, I’m finally able see four figures at the balcony. The King, Richard, and Sophia and William in one hand holding each other. William is emotionless as usual while Sophia looks extremely delighted.
“We have been waiting for more than three hundred years for this moment!” the king says majestically and everyone just grumbles and shouts in agreement.
I don’t have any troubles with going forward for they all are stepping aside and clearing the aisle for me.
I look at the king and at the prince and princess watching all of them very closely.
The king raises his cup and pronounces: “I propose a toast for a newly engaged couple! To the new union of the two royal bloodlines!”
My heart sinks at the heavy burden which I must face. Everyone raises their cup waiting for the king’s words or any kind of approval, but when finally noticing me, he stays silent staring at me unable to utter a single word.
No one makes a sound. They are all speechless hooking their eyes on the king or on my figure. The King seems to be frightened by old ghosts, Sophia doesn’t understand the situation and William gazes at me in disbelief. He expected Yara to wear this dress, but I’m Yara no longer.
“Father, what is this about?” Sophia shrieks, but the king silences her with his gaze and then he turns his eyes to me again.
I take the glass and I raise it up.
“To the new union of the two royal bloodlines!” I repeat king’s words. “To the Pure Blood Prince and Princess Sophia!” I say and my voice is of a sound of raging storm.
“Who are you?” king asks in disbelief.
“After such a long time,” I start, “you have finally succeeded! Bravo!” I clap my hands theatrically. I have never been a drama queen, but stealing everyone's of attention which was originally meant for him just, taking it solemnly for myself feels refreshing. “You haven’t succeeded with your first disobedient daughter, Selene, but now, Sophia has erased all of Selene’s previous mistakes,” I say with admiration while looking at them.
“Guards! Seize her!” The king is shocked. I’m witnessing a special moment. The king, who is always perfect, always knows what to say, always prepared, is caught off guard, vulnerable and speechless.
I don’t have to pretend any more, I’m not the fable girl hiding behind the curtain any more.
“Don’t you dare to touch me!” I utter with lethal calmness and the guards are actually being scared by my words so they stop, standing still.
“Cowards!” the king hisses, “didn’t you understand?! Seize her!” he almost shrieks.
“They don’t possess the powers to stop me,” I announce quietly, “and neither should they try,” I warn them politely.
“Who are you to enter the ball, to threaten the royal family and to think you can walk away without any consequences?! You have got a nerve to challenge the royal family, fable, courageous, insane girl!”
William gets rid of Sophia’s hand. She’s not happy at all, but he isn’t even bothered with her. He just jumps down with vampire speed and everyone makes a space for the two of us. Nobody desires to be clashed between two titans.
“I didn’t give this dress to you,” he announces cold as ice while Sophia is shortened of her breath and the king too.
I decide to ignore William’s words and I turn my sight to the king.
“Oh, I’m sure you already know who I am,” I smirk. “Your birds in the dungeon certainly sang very loud and far, and they betrayed me the very moment I walked out the prison. The question is whether their song has already reached your ears.”
“No, you can’t be her,” the king says and there’s hurt in his voice.
I feel somehow touched. My father has never showed me that many emotions during my whole previous life as he displayed just a minute ago.
“William, stop her!” the king shouts. “Kill her if you have to!”
I stare at William. “You can kill me,” I say almost whispering, but I know he can hear me. “You are truelly the only one at this ball who actually can, but at first, you need to know that Sophia has never been the last descendant of the royal female bloodline.”
My words steal the breath of every creature in the room. I look at Sophia and she’s furious. She jumps with vampire-like grace from the balcony right next to William. She grabs his hand and he doesn’t object. He’s just staring at me.
Guards approach me and for the moment I stare at them with determination. I decided to fight in this life and not to give in. They can taste only a mere drop of my power and they’re pushed back. I didn’t hurt them, but it was a clear warning.
All guests are frightened now. They look at William and Sophia.
“Why did you give this dress to Yara?” Sophia almost cries out as a child who has been robbed of his favourite toy.
“I gave them to her, because I,” he stops.
Sophia screams in front of the whole hall. “Why? I was supposed to wear them tonight. Why have you requested such a thing at a first place?”
“I gave them to her, because I have fell in love with her,” he finally answers and my heart stops beating.
I wish I could cry. I wish my life was never mine. I wish I could be just Yara to love him back, because seeing him like this tears my heart apart. It hurts. It hurts a lot. I wish we could finally be together even though I shouldn’t. I should deprive him of his life for we must not reunite our bloodlines! He’s the monster in the story! He’s the murderer! And yet, he didn’t do anything wrong.
I became weak. I’m a coward now. I should kill him right now.
But how can I? I’m completely in love with him too!
