Chapter 61: Keyon's POV

2449 Words
I couldn't stop watching Danny sleeping in my bed. Her pink curls were all over the place and she honestly looked like an angel. The last time I had a woman in my bed, I was probably a teenager. As my abilities grew, it became more difficult to talk to women since they couldn't even notice me. I had convinced myself that I would be okay with a life of solitude and that worked for some time until I met Mathew and Kendrick. They were visiting my father's old pack, the Silver Stone pack. My mother and I had left the pack when I was a child after my father betrayed their bond. Normally, even after a separation pups would belong to their father. However my father hardly noticed me even when I was in the pack. After we left, it was like I never existed to him. "Stop staring at me", Danny groaned. "That's so creepy!" I chuckled and got out of bed. "I'll stop staring at you, but we really need to get up. I have a lot to do today!" She reluctantly got up and started getting out of bed. I watched her naked body slide out of bed and almost dragged her right back in there. She definitely knew her way in the bedroom. "I want to hear what you guys did in the human world", she said excitedly. "Are the humans as disgusting as all the books describe them?", She seemed quite grossed out by humans. "I heard horrible things about them. I can't bring myself to go to the human world." I laughed at her. "All those books just focus on the bad. Humans can be good or bad; just like magical creatures." "If you say so", she planted a kiss on my lips. "I just want to know what you guys got up to! Was Liz happy to be back in the human world?" I didn't want to answer that question. So much happened yesterday and last night. When I left Mathew and Elizabeth, I got the impression that she was staying out of a sense of duty; not because of how she felt about Mathew. My wolf, Shadow, and I were actually afraid she would leave at some point. That fear overtook us and I found myself sharing things with her that I have never told anyone and even told my King to leave her alone. I was still shocked by it all. Their fight started with a minor misunderstanding, but it just kept growing into a tangled mess of pain and resentment. I have no idea what the history is between Megan, Mathew and Elizabeth, but it was obviously not good. I would have to talk to Ken and Mike about it and I most definitely couldn't tell Danny anything about it. "Uhm...yea, she was happy. Kind of." I decided to escape the conversation by going to take a shower. "Uhm, what are you doing?", I asked Danny when she followed me into the bathroom. "I'm taking a shower with you. We can save water that way." She got inside and turned on the water before I could say anything. Of course we picked up where we left off last night. She was too irresistible to leave alone. "That was just what I needed!" She got out out of the shower and put on her clothes. "I'm glad I could be of assistance", I teased her. "I'm just glad you're not a prude who's waiting for his fated mate. Someone with your...talents shouldn't keep himself hidden from the world." I raised my brow at her. "I take it you don't think fated mates are a big deal then?" She paused to think about it. "The last time a kelpie was mated to their fated mate was probably a hundred years ago. We just don't think it's that big of a deal. If you like someone, you bed them. You don't have to wait for some divine entity to tell you who you should be with. That's just silly." I didn't really know how to respond to her. When Mathew and Ken found me in the Silver Stone pack, I was busy causing havoc there. My mother's dying wish was for me to return to the pack, so I did. She told me I would find find my destiny there and at the time I was convinced that she meant I was supposed to claim my rightful place as the pack's alpha. When Shadow and I got there, we found my half brothers running the pack to the ground so we decided we would help them destroy the pack. I waltzed right in and no one noticed me. I had been causing disarray in the pack for months and they were all at their wits end. I would have gotten away with it all had Mathew and Ken not visited the pack. They were the only ones who could see me. Shadow and I were shocked by it, to say the least. When the three of us met, we instantly became brothers. I thought they would be the only people to ever notice me, but now three more people could see me. Shadow and I had abandoned the idea of having a fated mate a long time ago because of my abilities, but now I was starting to think a fated mate was a possibility for me. I wanted that for myself now. I had to tell her the truth. I didn't think the whole fated mate business was silly. I treasured it just like any other magical creature should. "Well I have to disagree with you, Danny. I believe in fated mates and...well I hope I find my fated mate one day AND I hope you find yours too." She scoffed. "Selene really has you all fooled with that matebond business. I'd rather have someone who chooses to love me, than one who is tricked into loving me. That's what the matebond is, Keyon. It's a trick." I raised a brow at her. "Surely you don't mean that, do you?" She just shrugged her shoulders. "That doesn't matter. Look, until you find your precious mate, I am going to keep sleeping in your bed. Is that okay?" "Mmmm", I really had to think about this. I couldn't really see myself being more than friends with Danny. She's a great girl and all and I was pleasantly surprised to find her naked in my bed lastnight and the night Elizabeth arrived. However, I couldn't see this going any further. And yet, Shadow felt the need to keep a close eye on her so I decided it wouldn't hurt if she slept in my suite. "Come on, Keyon! Don't make a princess beg." I finally caved in and just agreed. "Okay, but on one condition." She looked at me suspiciously. "You don't start thinking of me as a boyfriend or chosen mate. That's not what this is." She laughed almost angrily at me. "I guarantee you that I'm not looking for a mate. I'm meant for bigger things than belonging to a man." "Okay...Uhm, obviously there's a story behind this. Want to talk about it?" "No story", she shook her head. "I'm hungry. We should get something to eat." I decided to leave it and took her hand so that we could go eat. After breakfast with Danny, I went to train our warriors and made some changes to the patrol schedule. Elizabeth told us about her encounter with Raphael and by the sounds of it, he will be trying to go after her. I doubled the patrols at our borders again and increased the guards within Mathew's territory. Elizabeth wouldn't know it, but she would be watched by at least ten guards at all times. "Ken, where are you?", I asked him through our mindlink. I didn't receive a response so I asked him again, but he remained quiet. I could feel he was closeby and I could tell he wasn't in any danger, so I figured he was probably busy. I needed to speak to him about what happened between Elizabeth and Mathew yesterday. Ken is much better at handling people than I am. And if Mike could join in the chat, it would make things better. He may hate Mathew, but I'm convinced he's the go-to person for all there is to know about Liz. The two of them work together the way Mathew, Ken and I do. Except Mike is much more protective over Elizabeth than Ken and I are over Mathew. I could feel Shadow already drawing closer to Elizabeth though. We swore our allegiance to Mathew and the Werewolf kingdom, but Shadow was increasingly growing protective over Elizabeth. So much so that we even ignored Mathew's order when he demanded that we tell him where Elizabeth was yesterday. If I could feel this pull towards her then Ken could probably also feel it and Mike probably knew what it was so the three of us definitely needed to have a talk. "Ken!", I called out to him one last time. "What?", he finally answered. "Where are you? We need to talk." I heard him groan through the link. He's usually always chipper, so I knew something had to be wrong. "I'm at the hospital." We have a few hospitals, but he didn't have to tell me which hospital he was at. I knew he was probably visiting his dad. "I'm on my way!", I closed the link and made my way to the hospital. I took a deep breath before entering Luciene's hospital room. Ken tries to hide it, but he always gets down when he visits his dad. I was even surprised when he asked Mathew that I accompany him and Elizabeth to the human world. He's the one who usually does those things while I stay here. The whole Megan fiasco aside, I was glad that I went. It gave me time to get to know Mike better and realise that he's just as funny as Kendrick; maybe even funnier. He only acts up where Mathew is concerned. I was hoping my report would at least distract Ken from the situation with his dad. I wanted to explain to both him and Mike that we had to do everything we could to ensure Elizabeth doesn't leave. My abilities have allowed me to go through life unnoticed and that meant I got to see things people hid from others. When I saw Elizabeth's face yesterday, I was reminded of all the women I had seen in this world. They had been left by their mates and it was only after being left that they realised that they had no power without their mate. Most men don't see these things. To them, that's just the natural order of things. But I saw it time and time again and Elizabeth had that same look in her eyes. The look of a woman who had decided she was better off without a two-timing mate. I needed to get Ken and Mike's help to do what we could convince Elizabeth that Mathew would never hurt or leave her. She would never be any of those women. I opened the door to his hospital room and almost fainted from shock. Luciene was sitting up in his bed and eating pudding. I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't dreaming and he was still there. Esther was standing next to Ken, but neither of them looked happy. I should have heard laughter while I was outside and they should have told everyone the moment he woke up, but none of that had happened. They were acting like they were at a funeral. "Ken, your dad is awake?!", I shouted excitedly at him. He jumped when he heard me. Esther hadn't even noticed me, but I was surprised to see his dad looking up at me. Ken quickly rushed me outside of the hospital room. He didn't look like a man who's father miraculously woke up from a three year long coma. His eyes were red and sunken and his hair was disheveled like he had been nervously running his hands through it. "Ken, what's wrong?", I asked him. "Are Mathew and Elizabeth back yet?", he asked me. His eyes looked wild and filled with worry. "Yea, what's wrong?" He took a deep and nervous breath before responding. "I was kind of hoping they'd come back tomorrow", he said nervously. "Things are a mess right now and I was hoping to keep this mess away from them for as long as I possibly could." I was getting worried. Surely things couldn't get messier than they already were. There was already so much going on. "Hey!", I grabbed his shoulder to shake him awake. He looked like he was giving up on life. "What the hell is going on, man? You're scaring me." "My dad did something, Keyon; something bad." I waited for him to go on and tell me what his dad did, but he just ran his hand through his hair. "Ken, what did he do?" I demanded. He ran his hands through his hair again; messing it up even more. "I told you it's a mess, Keyon. Look, I think it's time we call Mathew and Elizabeth here. I'd do it myself, but....but I need you to do it." "Okay, Ken", I decided to leave it for now. I would find out what his dad did when Mathew and Elizabeth arrived. "I just mindlinked Mathew", I informed him."He and Elizabeth are on their way." He still looked nervous. "Ken, it's going to be okay." I tried to reassure him, but I still had no idea what was going on. Within a few minutes we heard footsteps approaching. It was Mathew, Elizabeth and Mike. Judging from how Mathew and Elizabeth were walking, they had still not made up yet. Mates usually always walk hand in hand or touching somehow, but there was no physical contact between the two of them. Mike also still looked extra annoyed with Mathew. The moment Liz saw Ken, she ran to him and gave him a hug. "Ken, are you okay?" I could tell Mathew was restraining himself back from pulling her away and into his arms. "Ken, is it Uncle Luciene?", Mathew asked. "Don't tell me he-" "No!", Ken interrupted him."He's okay. He's more than okay. He's uhm, well he's up." Elizabeth and Mathew both looked at Ken with huge smiles on their faces. "Ken this is great news!", Elizabeth remarked. Mathew barged inside the hospital room and ran to Luciene.
