The moment I walked inside the hospital room I ran to Uncle Luciene and gave him a firm hand shake.
I took another look at him. This was too good to be true. He looked the way I remembered him from back when I was a child. He was no longer the thin and frail old man I saw in that dungeon the witches kept us in. He barely looked older than me even though he's multiple decades older. That's the way it should be. He looked like any other werewolf his age now. He looked like a man in his late twenties, but any magical creature would be able to tell from his aura that he's much older.
"Young wolf! I should have known it was you back in that cave." His green eyes were glistening with pride.
"I'm so happy you're awake, Uncle Luce!", I gently pulled Elizabeth into my chest. "I want you to meet my Queen, Uncle Luce. This is Elizabeth."
He looked at her nervously. Elizabeth held her hand out to greet him, but he just looked around the room nervously without saying anything to her.
I took a good look at him and then looked at everyone else in the room. Ken didn't look like someone whose dad miraculously woke up from a three year long coma. He looked terrible and he looked at me like I was going to banish him or something.
I looked at Esther. She looked just like Kendrick. They knew something I didn't.
When Luciene didn't greet her back, Elizabeth tried changing the subject.
"Luciene, I'm sure you're still getting your bearings in order seeing as it's been three years", she said while laughing awkwardly. "I think we should give you guys some privacy. I am going to check out the rest of this marvelous kingdom." She tried leaving the room with Mike, but I tightened my grip around her waist. She wasn't going anywhere.
She and I drifted off to sleep last night with my erect p***s planted firmly in her behind. That's all I can do at this stage to try and appease both our physical needs. I thought I had handled the problem to some extent, but when I woke up this morning, she had left the suite without even telling me. She left her phone on her side of the bed and when I checked it, there were hundreds of articles open all talking about Megan and I.
I never bothered to correct any of the lies Megan told because I honestly didn't care about them. As long as what she said didn't affect my business or hurt anyone, I didn't care what she told the press. My focus was on finding Elizabeth and protecting my kingdom. That's all that mattered.
Now I've come to realise the extent of my mistake. Elizabeth refuses to let this go and even now I can tell she's still angry at me.
This morning I left the luna suite after going through her phone and followed her scent until I found her all the way in the royal library reading her books again. I tried to explain everything to her again, but she wouldn't let me get a word in.
I thought I was being a caveman for thinking this, but Orion agreed with me that Elizabeth and Phoenix just needed to be marked and mated. He was also of the view that being denied their mate was the reason why both of them were so paranoid and temperamental. A few days and nights doing nothing but mating each other senseless would solve this problem.
I took a deep breath while I felt her trying to escape my embrace.
"There's clearly something going on between you three", I pointed at Ken, Esther and Luciene. "Out with it."
Luciene took a deep breath and started talking. "I guess I can't run away from this anymore", he sighed nervously.
"Nathaniel", he let out another nervous sigh, "I was stuck in the afterlife all this time. To me it felt like a day, but Ken and his beautiful mate Esther here have told me that I've been in a coma for nearly three years."
I moved closer to him and put my hand on his shoulder. "Yea, it's been long, but you shouldn't worry about that, Uncle Luce. You just focus on getting your strength back. You're safe here."
He pursed his lips and exhaled through his nose. "Well, I should tell you the whole story Nathaniel."
I nodded my head and let him continue.
"I was prepared to go into the afterlife when Freya hit me with that spell. I didn't think there was anything left for me in this life. I had lost my mate, my King, my Queen and I had no idea where my little boy Kenny was."
This time Kendrick came to hold Luciene's hand.
"I asked Selene to let me go into the after life, but she said I should think about it first so she let me stay in limbo. I had finally made my choice and still decided to go into the afterlife, but I heard my little Kenny calling out to me. I couldn't see him, but I could hear him. It was a grown man's voice, but I knew that was my son's voice."
Esther gave him a gentle smile.
"Uhm", he cleared his throat before continuing. "When I heard Kenny's voice, I realised I couldn't face him so I rushed to get to the afterlife. However, before I was able to get in, I heard Kenny and his mate calling out to me; begging me to come back to the land of the living."
I furrowed my brows. "Why didn't you want to come back, Uncle Luce?"
He looked at Ken and Ken motioned for him to go on. "Uhm, I'll get to that in a bit. What you need to know right now is that my son brought me back. I didn't want to come back, but he and his mate brought me back and I'm so grateful I get to see him all grown up. He's almost as handsome as me." We all chuckled a bit.
He looked around nervously like he really didn't want to tell us more. Ken took his hand. "Dad, you need to tell him." Ken was on the verge of tears. I couldn't understand what the hell was so bad.
Luciene took a deep breath. "In a minute, Ken", he insisted. "Just let me have this moment. You boys are all grown up and I just found out you're a royal Beta like me. I never thought I'd live to see this day."
Then he shifted his attention to Elizabeth. "Young lady", he almost started tearing up, "I want to apologise for how I acted earlier. I'm glad your Gamma here", he pointed at Mike, "didn't try to kill me."
"What?", we all said simultaneously.
He chuckled and looked at us. "Well that's the royal Gamma, isn't it?"
I shook my head at him. "Uncle Luce, what do you mean?"
He looked at us like we were missing something so obvious. "That young man is the royal Gamma, isn't he?"
Elizabeth looked at Mike and then back at Luciene. "Luciene, you're mistaken" she corrected him. "Mike isn't the Gamma. He's...well he's like a big brother to me. He's Mike."
"Well, of course he is", Luciene responded. "You kids are not serious right now, are you? That man is the royal Gamma. Surely you can all feel it?"
We were all lost for words. "Uncle Luce", I warned him, "I promise you, we have no idea what you're talking about. You need to explain yourself right now!"
He shook his head in disbelief. "There is a whole section in the library on the Werewolf King and Queen and all ranked royal members of the Werewolf kingdom. Did you kids not read any of it?"
I huffed and rolled my eyes. "The library was burned down when the witches attacked, remember? We had to rebuild everything and there's still so much information that's missing!"
He awkwardly leaned back in his bed as it dawned on him that the library he was talking about no longer existed. "I guess it's up to me to educate you kids then."
He looked at us with a serious face now. "As you all know, the Gamma is the Luna's guardian."
We all nodded our heads.
"Normally", he continued, "the Alpha chooses his own Gamma and the Luna just has to accept that person as her guardian. It's a sacred bond and the Gamma will always respect and safeguard his Luna. For instance, if a Luna is overcome with emotional distress or is in physical danger, the Gamma will use his Gamma aura to help her calm down and protect her or help her keep going even if all seems lost."
"Okaaaayy", Mike said as he moved closer to Luciene's bed.
"However, at the end of the day, the Gamma's loyalty lies with his Alpha. If the Luna wants something the Alpha did not approve, the Gamma cannot go against his Alpha's orders."
Mike gestured with his hands for Luciene to go on.
"A similar thing happens with werewolf royalty, except the Werewolf Queen chooses her own Gamma."
"Why?", I asked him.
He furrowed his brows. "Well that's pretty obvious isn't, it? Because their bond needs to be much stronger than that between a normal Luna and Gamma. It must be unbreakable."
Now Elizabeth also got closer to Luciene's bed. "That doesn't really answer the why question, Luciene", she said anxiously.
Luciene gave a light chuckle. "The Moon Godess always chooses a person that is selfless to be Queen. Someone who won't hesitate to give up her life for the sake of her people. This person, although selfless, also tends to be reckless. They're always putting themselves in danger for the sake others."
I almost laughed while listening to this. This is precisely the kind of person Elizabeth is.
"Her Gamma", he pointed at Mike again, "has a lot more work to do than a normal Gama. He needs to be someone who understands the Queen's crusades. He must be able to support her and her cause even when everyone else do not understand her. However!" He paused. "He must also possess the wisdom to stop her from risking her life unnecessarily. It's a difficult balance to strike, but the Gamma always knows where to draw line."
Mike and Elizabeth were just staring at each other and smiling.
Mike chuckled. "I'm guessing the royal Gamma is loyal to the Werewolf Queen first before anything else."
Luciene nodded his head. "Of course! He is her guardian and she is his ward. He may swear his allegiance to the King, but his Queen always comes first."
I was relieved to hear this. This was such great news and it explained so much. It made things so much easier.
"Is it normal for the Gamma to hate the King?", I snorted.
He laughed until his face turned red. "Nathaniel, you were too young to remember this, but your father and Gamma Darrell always used to butt heads when you were a baby. It may take some time for the King and Gamma to get into their own rhythm, but after some time working together, they figure it out."
Mike and I looked at each other and for the first time in my life, I didn't feel like strangling him.
"Your Beta and Delta over here", he pointed at Kendrick and Keyon, "will also start feeling a pull towards their Queen the more time they spend with her. It won't be as strong as the bond she shares with the Gamma, but it will still be pretty strong. It will be as strong as their bond to you."
"You can see him?" Ken and I said in unison while pointing at Keyon.
"I can see his royal Delta aura", Luciene responded, "but I'll admit that I have a problem seeing the young man's face properly."
Keyon looked happy that another person was able to tell he was in the room.
I was just happy to finally understand what was happening between Mike and Elizabeth. I knew she didn't have feelings for him, but I wasn't sure whether he had feelings for her. This made Orion and I feel so much better about having him around. Uncle Luciene would be able to help us figure out so many things we didn't know. He could help us fill in the gaps about a lot of things in the Werewolf kingdom and the rest of the magical world.
I patted his back. "I'm so glad you're back, Uncle Luce. There's so much you can teach us."
He nodded his head in agreement."I can see you kids don't even know the basics, so I have to agree with you on that."
We all laughed at him.
"Speaking of the basics", he said in a sudden serious tone, "Nathaniel you shouldn't waste any time marking and mating your Queen or else someone else is going to beat you to it."
"Actually, Uncle Luce", I tried explaining, "Elizabeth and I can't mate or mark each other because someone or something cursed our matebond."
I watched as his eyes got red and his face got paler. Ken reached for his hand and he clutched onto it. Ken and Esther's faces were just as pale as Luciene's now.
I grabbed a jug of water on the table and poured him glass. "Uncle Luce, are you okay?", I asked him as I handed him the cup.
He refused to take the cup and kept clutching onto Ken's hand.
"I guess what Ken and Esther told me is true then.", he clenched his fists."I really did curse your matebond."
