Chapter 49: Elizabeth's POV / Mathew's POV

I started putting on the clothes the trackers gave to me. "You were saying", I gestured to Danny. She put down the chips she was eating and turned her attention back to me. "Raphael accepted the deal, but he said he wanted something else-my mom." I got back inside the car and sat next to her. "Why would he want your mom?" She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. She ran away after giving birth to me. Dad has been trying to find her all these years, but he hasn't been able to." I leaned against the couch. "If Raphael and your dad are looking for your mom then we have to get to her first. Where would we even start though? Is there a chance that she may be hiding on land?" She tapped her finger against her chin. "She would have to stay close to the water. Otherwise she would die." I exhaled loudly. "We'll have to get back to that one. Another thing we need to figure out is how your dad will help Raphael find other magical creatures. Don't kelpies hate the rest of the magical world?" She suddenly had a very worried look on her face; as if something just dawned on her. "Danny, what's wrong?", I asked as I grabbedher arm.. "The kelpie kingdom started moving around because word had spread about a warlock that was draining magical creatures of their magic. While the kingdom moved around, the king back then created a map of all the places the kingdom had moved to keep a record of where the kingdom had been. Since we live under water, most creatures don't even know when we're in their territory. The kingdom continued moving around even after Raphael was killed. I...I..." She seemed lost for words. "Danny, what's wrong?" "Every Kelpie king since then has been creating a map of where the kingdom has been. It's essentially a map that shows where all the magical creatures are that we've encountered over hundreds of years. The map is passed down from one king to the next. And my dad..." She trailed off. "Your dad is going to give that map to Raphael?!" She nodded her head with a blank stare as the realisation hit her. I was almost too shocked to speak. Raphael would know where to look for every single magical creature. "We need to go get that map right now!", I shouted as I started getting out of the car. I was going to go into the river and go to King Amenadiel. She got out of the car and grabbed my arm. "It's too late. When I escaped, the kingdom was already moving again. It's gone now." "Oh my freaking gosh", I muttered to myself. "We need to find that map and your dad, Danny." She bit her lip nervously before continuing to talk. "Things may not be as bad as they seem, Liz. The seer and Mikah are still in the kingdom. They said they're going to try and take dad down from the inside." "How are they going to do that?", I asked with frustration. "Wait, how did you even escape?" A sly smile curved on her lips. "The seer helped me. She told me I would meet werewolves who would help me after I managed to get Raphael off my tail, but the werewolves arrived much sooner than they were supposed to. Something must have happened." I knew that what Mathew and I did was the reason why all of this happened. I also knew deep down that all this happened because I refused to listen to Azrah. I felt a great wave of guilt wash over me as I realised people lost their lives today because of me. Audrey was probably still in danger because of me. I held back my tears and hugged Danny as tight as I possibly could. I had put her life at risk. "I'm so glad you're safe, Danny. I'm so sorry I didn't come for you sooner." She just chuckled. "You came in time. That's what matters. By the way, your beast is a freaking rockstar! What's her name and what the hell is she?" I laughed as I left her embrace. "She's a Phoenix-Wolf. She can shift into a werewolf and a phoenix. Her name is Phoenix and even though she's a rockstar, she's also easily swayed by strong emotions and her actions are sometimes shortsighted." Danny looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "You're literally describing yourself, Liz." "What?", I exclaimed. "If a stranger told you they didn't have a hand, you would be so overcome with empathy that you would rip off your own arm to give it to them. You wouldn't even think about the fact that you also need an arm! This is why you need Mike. He stops you from doing all these reckless things." She and I laughed as I thought more about it. "As far as I'm concerned, Phoenix is Elizabeth 2.0", Danny shrugged as she grabbed a pack of chips out of my hands. ********************************************* Mathew's POV Orion, I called to him in my head. I felt him stand on all fours, ready to listen to what I was saying. It felt good to have him again. I was starting to think he had disappeared. When I first felt him in my head three years ago, I never thought there would come a day when I missed him. Back then, I was trying everything I could to get rid of him. The last three years have made me realise that he's a part of me, just as much as Elizabeth is. "We're getting close to the gates. I don't think we should drive in. That's not enough with everything going on." "You want us to enter the premises in wolf form?", he asked smugly. "Yes. I may have proven my strength to everyone last night, but there are probably still some people who have doubts. They need to see us in wolf form. Plus, since Audrey was kidnapped, they need to be reminded that their king is strong enough to bring her back." I heard him growling. "I have no reason to ever say no to you. You found Elizabeth. If you wish to shift, then shift." I stopped right before I reached the gates. The border patrol were already opening the gates for me. Orion ripped out of me and I watched as the patrol men's jaws dropped to the floor. Orion stretched out his paws and shook his fur. I had missed being in wolf form. Nothing feels better than feeling the wind run through my fur. We started running across the territory, all the way to the palace. He was big; as big as some of the trees here. It only took us a few giant leaps to get to the palace. When we got there, the place was filled with warriors, alphas and betas. They all stopped doing what they were doing as soon as they saw me coming. They looked up at me with mixed emotions. A few looked scared, some looked shocked, but most of them looked proud. My aura was still strong, but it felt lighter and more accommodating. It didn't feel like it was crushing others, threatening to explode out of me. Most of the alphas and betas who would usually need to distance themselves from me, were standing closer to me now. "No freaking way!", I heard an alpha say to his beta through the mindlink. "He's bigger than the damn trees!", I heard someone else say through the link. "If he wanted to, he could probably eat all of us here", another chirped in. "I'd like to see those smug grypons look down on us now. Our king can probably take multiple gryphons down at a time", someone else said through the link. I chuckled to myself as I heard all their comments through the mindlink. Orion had gotten a lot bigger and our fur looked even darker than I remembered. I looked down at my huge paws and saw the moons on my paw shining. I hadn't realised just how much I missed being in wolf form. I couldn't help but chuckle at myself while I heard their comments. I shifted back into my human form and they were all still staring at me. "Let's get back to work, gentlemen", I instructed them. They all just continued staring at me. "King Mathew, your wolf...it's magnificent", one of the alphas said. "It's bigger than any magical creature I've ever seen. Why...why would Alpha Gideon ever doubt you?" "He has his reasons", I responded to the man. "Now I'm serious. We have to find the Mother of Seers. Let's get back to work!" This made them all snap out of it and they got back to what they were doing. Keyon came and gave me a pair of pants to wear. I made a mental note to myself dor Elizabeth and I to take Audrey and Jonathan up on that invitation to swim in their sacred river. I started putting on the black formal pants. "Give me an update, Keyon." He handed me a file containing the progress made thus far. "It's been a few hours since she's been taken. We've searched our territory and all packs are currently having search parties in the areas around their territories. The seers and good witches have also joined in the search, but we haven't found her yet." Hearing him speak made me realise that I had never shown Keyon just how much I appreciated how hard he worked. Because of him and Kendrick, I've been able to run things almost seamlessly in both the human world and the magical world. The man has had a hard life because as much as his abilities are a gift, they're also a curse. People forget him the moment he stops speaking to them. No one ever remembers him or his name. People would find themselves attending to his orders, but they wouldn't remember who gave the order. Even now, all these warriors and alphas were impeccably organised because Keyon was giving the orders. They just wouldn't quite remember who was the man that got them organised this quickly or how they were able to get things done so efficiently. "We need someone in the air to search, Keyon. We'll be able to cover more ground that way. They may notice something the foot soldiers haven't noticed." I was paging through the report and noting all the things he had done so far to try and find Audrey. The seat of the werewolf kingdom alone was too big for a foot search. There are multiple cities, forests, rivers, beaches, urban and upper class areas that would need to be searched. Searching the entire Werewolf kingdom on foot, would take months. Another problem is we were not even sure if Audrey was still in the Werewolf kingdom. She might have been taken to another kingdom. "I'll get on it, boss", Keyon responded. I can have a few helicopters ready to go in about three hours." I groaned because that would take too long, but gestured for him to continue with his progress report. "I've doubled security around our borders and also told the alphas to increase security at their borders. I've dispatched warriors to the good witches and asked that all seers be accounted for in case they were also taken." Orion and I were listening intently to Keyon. We were both very impressed with his meticulousness. The man had done all this in a short amount of time. "Keyon", I stopped walking and put a hand on his shoulder. "You did an impeccable job. You always do an impeccable job. Thank you." His face suddenly got red and he awkwardly scratched his neck. "Stop that, boss. You're making me blush like a little kid." I laughed and jokingly punched his shoulder. He continued giving me his report. "I've told all our residents and guests to remain inside until further notice. You just need to deal with Alpha Jonathan there." He pointed at Jonathan. He was indeed mid-shift and was barking orders at the Black Claw warriors. He was clearly in a lot of pain. Alphas are always doting on their lunas and want to know where they are at all times. However, Jonathan and Audrey are much worse. They can never keep their hands of each other. You hardly ever see one of them without the other. I even had to stipulate in the coronation invitation that no one was allowed to mate in public. I have caught them on more than one occasion mating each other out in the open when I either visited their pack or when they visited me. Of course it's not just Audrey and Jonathan who have done this. Werewolves can easily be overtaken by their primal instincts; especially where a mate is concerned. When I saw Elizabeth, for the first time I truly understood the need to mate and mark your mate wherever you were. It was as strong as the need to breathe and it's damn near impossible to fight. I can't imagine how much more intense the feeling must be for fated mates like Audrey and Jonathan. "Jonathan", I held his shoulder and opened a mindlink to him. There was so much pain coming from his mindlink. I knew that pain. I lived with it for three years. It is soul crushing and no one should live with it for even a second. "I promise you, I will find her", I promised him. His eyes kept flashing between blue and brown. His wolf, Castiel, was constantly threatening to take over. "Castiel" I commanded him. "Jonathan needs a clear mind. You need to calm down. Your luna needs the two of you to be calm right now." He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. When he opened them his eyes had returned to blue only. He was also no longer mid-shift. Being the King is quite helpful in situations like this. Only his Luna can calm him down, but I can order his wolf to take a step back and let the man think clearly. "Thanks, man." His eyes were almost grey now and he looked incredibly pale. "What the hell is all this commotion?", I heard a familiar voice roaring. I didn't need to see who it was. It was Killian. A few warriors were trying to hold him back; probably to take him back to his room where all the guests were supposed to be right now. I rushed to stop him from making a scene. "King Killian, our Mother of Seers has been kidnapped", I informed him. "Please remain in your room until further notice." I wasn't in the mood to deal with him. Also, how could he not have noticed everything that was going on here. He stopped fighting the warriors who were trying to hold him back and seemed to understand that this was a serious situation. "My apologies. I have been locked in my suite meditating to Maru about my sweet Star fire. I didn't realise all this-" He stopped talking as we all looked up to the sky and saw a blue and white gryphon land infront of us. We all ran to the beast. Its scent was unmistakably Anha's. I roared when I saw who was on the beast's back. It was Ken. He was probably moments away from dying. "Ken!", I roared. I wanted to punch myself for not having found a healer for the seat of the kingdom yet. They were extremely rare and finding even one proved to be quite difficult. I knew that Sebastian was in no condition to heal anyone after what happened in the Silver City. "Get help!", I angrily roared at them all. His eyes were still slightly open, but he was definitely taking his last few breaths. He was still holding on despite having a silver blade in his chest. My brother and best friend was still clinging onto dear life. I held his hand. All I could do was hold his hand. Killian suddenly removed the silver blade that was lodged in Kendrick's chest. Blood started gushing out of the wound and I held my hands over it to stop the bleeding. There was so much blood gushing out of the wound. There was no way to stop it. I wanted to kill Killian for doing that, but for now I needed to try and save Kendrick. I knew that the doctors had already been summoned here, but it would be too late. He was seconds away from taking his last breath. Killian placed his hands over Ken's chest and a light started emanating from them. I recognised the light. He was healing him. I removed my hands from Ken's chest to allow Killian to heal him properly. The wound was slowly closing up and blood stopped gushing out of his body. Killian put his hands away after healing him, but Kendrick was not waking up. "Ken!", I roared at him. "Ken, wake up right now." I was shaking him, but he wasn't waking up. I looked at Killian and he avoided my eyes. "The blade almost hit his heart. It may have been too late, Mathew", he muttered. "No! No! No!" I kept shaking him. "Ken wake the f**k up right now. That's an order!" "Ken!", I roared again. He shot up and took a big gulp of air. I hugged him before he could do anything. He started patting his chest and whole body. He could clearly not believe that he was still alive. He stopped my hug and looked at me. "Dad? Where's dad?" He had a panicked look in his eyes. "Ken", I sighed. "Your dad is still in a coma." His eyes started glistening as he probably remembered what had happened to his father. He didn't look happy. "He doesn't want to wake up, Mathew. I talked to him and he said he doesn't want to wake up." I didn't care that he was saying all these crazy things. I grabbed him by the shoulders and hugged him again. "Your dad will wake up, Ken. I'm just glad you're okay. Who would annoy the living hell out of me if you died?" He and I both laughed. I turned to face Killian and gave the man a handshake. "Thank you, Killian. I hope I'll be able to return the favour one day." Kendrick grabbed Killian and hugged him before he could respond. Killian was struggling to get him off of him. Kendrick just wouldn't let him go. "Kendrick, you're crushing the man!", I laughed while I helped Killian get Kendrick off of him. We still had a lot to do.
