My view was quite blurry as I tried to focus the image of the green blood on my hand and I felt myself slowly falling into unconsciousness until eventually I passed out and when I woke up, I was back on my bed and my head had been bandaged neatly. I exhaled heavily and moved over to the mirror to check my wounds, I noticed for the first time Barb wasn’t on her seat so I started to guess where she’ll be while I slowly unwrapped the bandage around my head and move over to the mirror, the injury was still there and I saw it slowly closing up, I watched as the last tear in my flesh blended together and eventually the scar was gone. My chest suddenly stiffened as I recalled mom pushing me pretty hard, I recalled strangling Claire and the memory kinda stung, making me wince. But I finally arrived at a decision, I started to clear up my room and pack up my stuff, I don’t think I could stay in the house another minute after what happened.
I looked back at the door and closed it up with a heavy heart. I started to slowly walk my way down the hallway towards the room that used to be mine, from the look of it; Claire wasn’t in so I was able to walk in and have a quick look, she had redecorated, all the frozen wallpaper was gone replaced by plain blue paint and she had changed the position of a few things, my reading table used to be at the right side but now it was at the left, she had changed the bedside lamp too, the room clearly doesn’t look like mine anymore. I exited the room and started to walk my way downstairs and I found my family at the dining table having dinner but I couldn’t find Barb anywhere.
“Where’s Barb?” I immediately draw their attention as I looked around and couldn’t find my robot and best friend.
“Nicholas said he could help her charge at the power plant in Lebanon after Barb explained the amount of voltage she’ll need” Claire replied me calmly at for the first time she wasn’t being sassy, she seems she had gotten what she wanted. My mom wasn’t looking at me so I guess she must pretty much hate me now.
“Where are you going with the bag? And also I don’t think your wound is healed up yet, I think you should relax and-
“I’m fine dad, I appreciate your concern” I sharply interjected still climbing down, I was dressed cosily as I wanted to leave immediately but seeing that Barb wasn’t around I know I was likely to be delayed, mom was looking up at me now, then her face fell to the bag in my hands, her expression was plain and she wasn’t giving anything off so I don’t know what exactly was going on through her mind, I dropped the bag after getting to the foot on the stairs while I went pensive trying to think of what I could do especially when it seems I might not be leaving as early as I planned.
“Claire…about earlier-
“My name is Aira” I immediately corrected Claire who for the first time make a decent attempt to talk to me.
“I’m sorry-
“I don’t want to talk about it” I shrugged her off and immediately head for the door.
“Where are you going, it’s late” My dad worried and I glanced back at them studying their faces, Claire had a guilty look on her face while both my parents looked worried.
“I’m gonna take a walk” I simply replied opening the door and walking out into the cold night wanting to stay away from my family for a while, my thoughts were clouded and my head was heavy as I don’t know what to do or what to think, at this moment all that matters were getting back on Zullion, I wanna go back home…that was my home now, not here; took me a while to realise that. The night was lonely but few passersby could be seen, couples probably coming back from a date were chuckling and laughing wholeheartedly as they walked past me, down the end of our street was the usually busy road and intercession of another road, shops were still open and a lot of people were still on the main street, that moment I felt like a real human, after sitting on one of the park benches made in front of a grocery store for a couple of minutes I decided to go back home, the temperature was starting to drop rapidly.
Even though I had a warm jacket, a pair of muffins, and a proper cap on, I still felt like it wasn’t enough and I needed something more warm on. I was enjoying my walk back when I felt this strange presence behind me but whenever I looked back, there was no one. It happened a couple of times and by the time I turned to the front an older man in his mid-forties I guess was in front of me, he was bald with a clean shave, he was dressed in a black jacket and black pants but what really caught my attention was the designer shoes he had to match, all black.
“Hello?” He smiled and I frowned.
“Um, can I help you?” I asked with a slight frown, he looked kinda taken aback as I speak.
“Are you from around here?” The man questioned and I quirked a brow at him.
“My house is down that corner, are you lost? Do you need help finding your way?” I asked and he still looked surprised.
“Do you mind telling me which way is to Aliway?” He asked politely and I sighed.
“That’s a very long way from here, but do you have a phone? I can set the directions for you” I suggested and he willingly gave me his phone.
“Wow,” he muttered as I set the directions for him using his phone map.
“You’ve really been here for a very long time” He smiled and I frowned wondering what he meant but suddenly I felt something sink into my neck and I stiffened, I raised my hand to my neck and removed the needle embedded in it.
“What the heck!” I exclaimed before returning my blurry gaze to the man whose face slowly started to fade until I collapsed.
“This one looks kinda special, keep her in a special cell” That was the last thing I heard before passing out. When I woke up I was on a bed in a cell illuminated white and protected with glass. My heart started to race as I realised I had cuffs in my hand, with a long chain allowing my movement up to the glass frame. I was mad but my fear at this point surpassed my anger. I couldn’t stop thinking about how cruel my family was for giving me up to these people. Were they really that mad at me that they would give me up? I started to cry.
“Hello” A voice rang in my square shape cell and I looked up to hear where the voice was coming from and eventually I realised there was a speaker at the four corners of my cell.
“Don’t be scared, we won’t hurt you…if you co-operate with us, what’s your name?” They questioned and I frowned sobbing loudly and for a while, they didn’t talk.
“Claire” I finally voiced.
“That’s the identity you took, I mean your real name” Apparently, that was my real name and any other name they were asking except that was the identity I took.
“Aira” I croaked out in a hoarse voice.
“Aira, good; tell me how old are you?” The voice questioned further and as I sobbed silently
“25” I replied frankly.
“Your real age” The voice emphasized.
“I don’t know” I replied truthfully.
“Aira, we promise not to hurt you but that is only if you cooperate with us” The voice spoke softly.
“I really don’t know” I replied and I heard a sigh from whoever the voice belonged to.
“Please why am I here? Why did you bring me here? Are you gonna kill me?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking, I mean I was already in my alien form and somehow I couldn’t phase back to being human.
“No, we are not gonna kill you Aira, we just need-
“Doctor Gael” Another entirely different voice interrupted whoever it is that was talking the first time.
“Yes, doctor Palmer” The original voice responded.
“She’s a rare breed and results show she is pregnant and her baby right now is dying, but if we can generate a shock strong enough to accelerate the heartbeat of the child, we might be able to save her” Doctor Palmer reported and I felt my chest go stiff, I didn’t know how to feel all of a sudden.
