Chapter 19: Cravings

I must have fallen asleep in the car, because the next thing I remember is being woken up by my mate. His soft lips were on mine while his rough hands explored my bare skin, caressing my aching breast. Laying there for a moment, focused on his touch, which seemed to distract my mind from the events of the last two days. His warmth, his scent, was soothing to my mind. When he touched me, nothing else mattered. I could feel myself melting into his arms. I didn’t wish to think about them any longer. The mess was too stressful to bear. How I wished things would have been different. Why couldn’t they just be welcoming?

I was their rightful Luna, and my children weren’t innocent in all this. Our children had done nothing in this life to deserve hate. They are the children of an Alpha, so what? They are still just children, small, helpless. So young they don’t even fully understand the world and who they are. The children don’t know why those men wanted to hurt them. All they know is someone wanted to harm them.

How are my children supposed to feel safe? We can protect them. I know they are safe, but that isn’t the point. I don’t want my family to live in fear. All of us should find happiness here. We all could use joy in our lives. I wouldn’t let it happen. My children will be at peace here in their home. I will make sure of that.

“Ember, my love,” Damien called, his voice sweet as ever. My eyes felt so heavy, but I forced them open. He greeted me with a grin.

“Are you hungry? You must be by now,” Damien questioned. Noting the feeling of hunger, I nodded my head in response. My mouth felt far too dry to speak. He noticed and gave me a glass of water. The water was barely cold, but my throat was too dry not to drink. Gulping down the whole cup in one motion, I handed it back to my mate. He sat the empty cup aside.

“I don’t want to leave the bed,” I stated, laying back down, resting against Damien’s bare chest. He must have undressed me while I was sleeping because I was completely naked under the covers.

“I can make something and bring it up. Would that be okay?” Damien asked, running his fingers through the back of head, stroking my messy hair.

“I want something warm and greasy. How about a burger and curly fries? Oh Goddess, curly fries. I will die without them,” I explained.

“Is that what the baby wants?” He laughed, reaching for my stomach, touching the tight bump there.

“That’s what mom wants. Will you get it for me, please, sweetheart?” I pleaded, knowing if I didn’t get the curly fries soon, someone was going to get their feelings hurt. Damien laughed and released me from his grip.

“There is a fast food place in town. I’ll be back soon. Anything else?” Damien questioned. I thought for a moment. I wondered if the kids were hungry. Mother won’t have let them be. She would have been feeding them all day. I still should ask, but I didn’t even know what time it was.

“The kids?” I questioned, looking at Damien, who was throwing on some clothes covering his hardened c**k.

“They are asleep. You've been out for hours,” Damien replied. I nodded my head. I had really slept the whole day away.

“Can you get some ice cream too? Oh, and gummy bears. I will die without gummy bears,” I stated, thinking about the hunger growing in my belly.

“Should I just buy everything you like?” Damien laughed, making me shake my head in response.

“No.. I mean, we should stock up on snacks, but we can do that later. Just get my burger, curly fries, ice cream, and gummy bears for now,” I stated, watching him and he searched for his wallet and keys, finding them in his pants from earlier today. He walked to the bedside table, pulling out the phone.

“Here, this is yours now. All the numbers you need are programmed already. Text me if you think of anything else,” Damien stated, handing over the strange device. It wasn’t like I hadn’t used the phone before. But I had never had one of my own. I knew how to text, at least using Damien’s phone before.

“Okay, thank you, sweetie,” I said, leaning towards him. He smiled, planting a light kiss on my lip before leaving.

After he left, I explored his phone, finding the numbers for him and his high-ranking pack members. The newly promoted Gamma was among the contacts. I had just remembered they were supposed to come to dinner. I should apologize for missing dinner with him. We should reschedule for a different day. I would really like to meet his mate. It was important to take an interest in all the high-ranking pack members and their mates. I wonder if the beta found his mate yet? I haven’t heard about her yet. Damien should know. All I had to do was ask.

Maybe we should have dinner, so that we could get to know one another. It wouldn't be a bad idea, as Luna I was supposed to hold social gatherings for the pack. I should start working on planning some so I could have met more pack members, and so they could meet me. I know word must have spread about my arrival already. Everyone would want to meet their new Luna and her children.

Damien knows everyone is in the pack already, but I wanted my children and me to form friendships. My children would grow up around the children of the pack. It’s best to form relationships while they are still young. So when it came time for them to go to school, they would already have friends and playmates. I should plan something for the children of the pack. That would also give me a chance to meet their mothers. Most of them would be omegas or unranked she-wolves at the lowest positions in the pack, but it was still important to meet them. It was my responsibility to make sure their needs were being met, after all.

There was a lot to do, that was for sure. So many ways of connecting with the pack and its members. After the punishments take place tomorrow, we will have to act fast to make sure that it doesn’t have a negative effect. Though their crimes are punishable, I have only just entered the pack. I don't want this to be their first impression of me. I need to show them I’m a kind person and that I care about the wellbeing of everyone in the pack.
