Kaden POV
I can't stop my fingers from trembling as I run them down Tish's face. Sure, I have slept with many women, but I have not wanted one as bad as I want this one. Sparks ignite between our skin as I touch her. I take in a sharp breath as I inch my face closer to hers.
Kai lost a very intense match of rock, paper, scissors, where I won the right to kiss her first. He tried to punch me when he threw rock, and I threw paper. But I managed to dodge his fist and throw him to the ground. All of this took place in a very crowded mall, gathering the attention of several humans. We were promptly kicked out before we could finish shopping for Tish.
Now that I am this close to her, my heart is racing, and I don't think I can do it. Tish licks her lips in anticipation and holds her breath. The scent of her arousal is filling the air. She wants this as much as I do, but different scenarios keep running through my head.
I think about what will happen when we tell her that we are both her mates. How will she react? Will she want to be shared? What if she chooses a favorite? What if she picks just Kai, and I am left alone and miserable for the rest of my life?
'Where are you?' My father's voice booms in my head.
I pull away from Tish, and she is incapable of hiding the look of disappointment in her eyes. "Sorry," I whisper, and I tap my temple. "Mind link."
'We are in the cabin,' I tell my father.
'Back to the pack house, now,' my father demands.
I glance over my shoulder, and I can see that Kai's eyes are glazed over, too. He must be getting the same demands as me.
'Yes, Sir,' I reply, and I get to my feet.
Kai is already waiting for me at the front door of the cabin. He might be a jokester, but he always obeys our father.
Tish is glancing between us. Her eyes are wide and scared. "We will be back," I tell her.
"Try on the clothes," Kai recommends. "And meet us at the pack house in an hour."
I glance in Kai's direction. Bringing her to the pack house was never part of any discussion we have had with our parents. She will be recognized as a human immediately. Kai looks confident in his decision, though.
"Yeah," I try to respond cheerfully. "We can show you around."
She peeks out the window, and the sun is setting. In an hour, it will be dark. "I think I will just stay here," she whispers. "I could use the sleep."
"Whatever you need, Angel," I tell her as I silently shut the door behind me.
Kai and I walk to the pack house in silence. We know some sort of lecture is awaiting us when we get there. I can see my mother's silhouette on the front porch, and I know we are in a s**t load of trouble.
Before we reach the porch, my mother is marching toward us with her phone in her hand. "Yes, officer," she snaps. "We understand and appreciate everything your office does for our community. You can be assured that they won't cause any more problems."
She tucks her phone in her pocket, grabs us both by the ear and drags us into the pack house.
"Ouch, Mom," Kai whimpers. "We didn't do anything."
"You keep your mouth shut," she snaps at him. "Do you know who that was? That was the local police station- the one OUTSIDE of our territory. Did you start a fight in the middle of a human mall?"
"It's not what you think," I try to defuse the situation, but Mom twists my ear in her fingers. "Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!"
She lets go of our ears and stomps up the pack house porch stairs. "Inside, both of you."
We know better than to talk back. She might be a woman, but she is one of the strongest she-wolves I have ever known. My dad likes to tell the story about how they met at training, and when he recognized her as his mate, she kicked his ass and declared them equals. She would be no man's mate.
My father is waiting just inside the door. He is pacing the floor and pinching the bridge of his nose. We are in so much trouble.
"First off," he begins. "What the f**k were you doing in a human mall?"
"Mom told us Tish needed clothes," Kai says stupidly. "We were shopping."
"I meant for you to go through the donation box," my mother growls. "Just like we do for any other stray."
"My mate will not be wearing anything in that donation box," Kai growls.
"About that," my mother chimes in again. "Are you sure she is your mate? She is a human."
I can't help but growl at my mother. "She is our mate."
"Both of you?" She groans in return. "How do you plan on explaining this to her?"
"She is a familiar," my father interrupts. "She knows about our world."
My mother spins on her heels and punches my father in the face. "What else aren't you telling me?"
My father swallows hard. He is keeping something from us all. My mother's hands are on her hips, and Kai and I are glaring at him.
"We can talk about this later," my father mumbles at my mother.
"No!" She shouts, "We can talk about this now."
"Remember the familiar that aligned themselves with the recusants against the North Pack and the Luna Queen," my father says slowly.
My mother punches my father again. "Are you out of your mind? They are looking for her."
My father rubs his jaw painfully. "They aren't looking for her. The new Luna of the North Pack is forgiving. She just wishes her former friend well. She can have a safe life here."
"She can't stay here," my mother hisses. "I am putting my foot down. You have taken in too many strays who have endangered our pack. It stops now."
"She has changed," I beg. "I will not let you send her away. I don't care what she has done."
"Bro," Kai whispers. "We need to think logically here. She is a fugitive in our world. We have a pack to think about."
"Finally, one of you is thinking logically," my mother says loudly. "I am just surprised it is Kai."
"f**k you," I snap at Kai. "f**k you and this pack. I am not sending her away."
"No one is sending anyone away," my father commands loudly. Kai and I cower, but my mother stands her ground.
The scent of Honey flows through the doorway, and I throw my head back in anger. I open the door. Tish is standing outside with tears in her eyes. She is wearing the light blue sundress we bought for her. She is a vision of beauty. I reach for her, but she backs away.
"I don't have anything to pack," she says as she wipes her tears. "I'll be gone in an hour."
