Chapter 9

RUBY'S POV It had been tense all afternoon after the little show down I had with Donald. We had gotten introduced after the meal, but with the hostility still lingering in the air my mother requested I get taken to my room to calm down. Gerald and I had not gotten a chance to talk. He had not sought me out and neither had I avoiding running into his father and getting the rest of my day ruined. A quiet knock on my door interrupted the serenity I was enjoying. "Hey,can we talk? I haven't gotten an opportunity to speak to you since I got here," Gerald said from the other side of the door. "Let's head out to the gardens for a walk,we can speak there," I said while closing the door behind me. Meeting Gerald used to have me so excited, palms sweaty, heart racing, but now I felt like I was just hanging out with a fellow pack member. Where were those feelings that had led me to consider him as my future mate? "I missed you,I expected you would be pretty excited to see me,"he broke the silence. "I have had a lot on my mind and so much has been happening since we last saw each other,"I responded. He had not crossed my mind even once since we had seen each other and that made me feel a bit guilty. He was my friend and my boyfriend of sorts and after the news I had told him, then disappearing on him like I did with no communication, must have had him worried. " I have some news that is going to make your day better,"he said beaming. "Please let him say him and his creepy father are leaving?" Mary whined. "I may have spilled the beans that we have been seeing each other for a while to your parents. We already have their blessing to mate like we have always wanted. No need to meet secretly anymore or hide from everyone else. So this is more like my proposal. Will you mate me Ruby White?" I couldn't believe the words coming out of Gerald's mouth. He had went ahead and told my parents about us without consulting me,told them we were mating and now he was proposing? Something was just not right. He was bombarding me with so much at one go. I honestly didn't want to get mated at the moment, but not never at the same time. "I don't know Gerald. We were to tell my parents about us together and about mating you I have to think about it. Gerald it's been barely a week with my wolf. I need to get used to them, learn and get ready to inherit the pack, adding mating to my plate right now doesn't feel right." "Just tell him,you don't want to mate him!I personally don't want him as my mate!I have one!"Mary stated angrily before retreating like she always did whenever I was around Gerald. "You don't need to answer right away. Don't feel pressured. I'm sorry about your parents.I was just so excited to let the world know about us as I have been waiting for so long to be able to publicly court you. Your parents were so excited about my plans to propose to you but I'll let them know about how you feel," Gerald replied, but the sadness in his voice couldn't be hidden. It must have been so hard for him to hide our relationship from everyone as I had requested him to never let anyone know about us.He had stuck with me through thick and thin, maybe he was not the mate I was destined for but he would still make a good one. I don't think there was anyway I could turn him down. My parents already knew about the proposal too. I needed to just put my thoughts together before saying yes. GERALD'S POV She needed time to think about mating me? I had not wasted my time courting her and making trips to her pack for her to say she needed time. I had to either guilt her into marrying me or resort to my last weapon in my arsenal blackmail. Threatening to out her parents to other packs that they had knowledge about the presence of a male omega and had let him escape. That would be enough for them to removed as the heads of the pack and face trial. The pack would also be entirely left leaderless as Ruby would have been labeled a partner in crime. They were a family that valued their pack. If they needed the news hushed, then they needed to do my bidding. I didn't need to result to that but I needed to expand our pack borders, merge the pack and get to control the trade to the south. I could easily get someone else to blackmail them but I needed to have immediate access to leadership the moment Ruby and her parents were out of the picture as I would not be tied to the whole fiasco. Ruby leaving out the part that her mate was an omega and a male one for that matter raised my eyebrows. She was second guessing our mating and the scene with my father was out of character. She was normally very soft spoken but her alpha side was peeking through. She was beginning to feel territorial with the pack, our presence threatening her. I needed to work fast. DONALD'S POV Ruby was one feisty wolf just thinking about the stare down we had had me longing to have her in my arms.A little wild cat that I would enjoy taming, the more so reason I needed to push for her to mate my son and relinquish herself as the head alpha. Her parents had spent the better part of the afternoon trying to pacify me worried I would try to challenge their pup.I had special plans for her. She would be paying a hefty price for the humiliation she made me go through in front of everyone. My son had already informed them that he had been seeing Ruby for sometime and the happiness they both displayed was a win for us. Sifting through that crowd of suitors must have been pretty tedious for them. They had already given their blessing, the last step being the little girl accepting Gerald's proposal and our plan would be in full swing. I was already loving the feel of my new Pack.
