I stop in the fray of the door. When I turn my face, Tiana quickly resumes her position in curtsying to me. I have not bowed or curtsied back to her, so she is not supposed to rise from that position.
“She?” My lips form a sneer. When I look at the maids, they are all looking at each other, wide-eyed. Tiana is playing a game now. She is trying to make a rumor that I have a mistress and that is the sole reason I forbid people from coming to my castle.
“The Devil’s Child woman in your garden,” she says in a bolder voice. She even raises her face and looks me straight in the eye before saying, “Why do you have a thing like that in this palace?”
