The rest of the class was boring other than the moments in which Mrs. Elnor directly insulted Moses, while he covered his face and ran out of the class without his notes as the bell rang for the class. The remaining of the class left one by one as they greeted the teacher. Daniel was fondling with his bags and preparing his notes for the next class, while Drake was strolling to the school garden as he had no classes for the rest of the day, his favorite place to be, as it was one of the first classes he had in the academy, which brought back a lot of old memories.
The leaves were floating around the burgundy building with the white roses surrounded around the garden as he watched the flowers bloom and wither under the liume stabilizers. His hair color was in contrast to the flowers as he laid among them, which made him look like a peaceful dead corpse with a smile on his face. But such moments like this didn’t last long, as he heard the sound of disapproval from a boy.
He opened his eyes and backed away with a growl. The boy walked closer to him, but he passed through him and kept walking to a door with a bright light and faced Drake, who was scared of the boy, but he still followed as the flowers around him were slowing, losing their color with their petals falling and the grass turning black. He held the boy’s hand and walked through the door. The two of them were watching pages of books flying around them. The pages were blank and yet white as snow, but as they went near them, the pages screamed and cursed until they were burned into flames.
Drake wasn’t sure of this moment; it could be a dream or nightmare either way. He was fascinated. The younger boy opened his mouth to call Drake, but when he did, Drake’s face turned into a horror-stricken face, and he was woken up by a bucket of water in the Nurse’s office again, as the woman stared at him with worry on his face.
“This is the third time today and if there is another incident, I will send you home immediately,” Victoria said, dabbing the water from his head, but stopped as her hand made contact with his forehead and winced at the touch of it and stood up from her chair. Drake wondered why she reacted like that and touched his forehead, and it felt the same.
“Miss Stane, I don’t see the problem with my body temperature.” He tried to convince the nurse, but he felt too weak to protest against her and allowed his body to enjoy the silk sheets, while watching her use her juime communicator to inform Christa about his condition.
Christa was clearly not happy about the news and was holding Seb, who was playing with his toes as if they had never seen them before and needed to explore them like an adventurer. Drake may not have been able to hear their conversation, but he could clearly tell how worried they were about it. Victoria noticed him trying to move out of bed but stopped him with a swift jab to his neck, making him fall unconscious for the fourth time today.
In a bright cool surrounding by a flowing river and the clear blue sky, while resting by a tree, Drake found himself lying, in the same white roses again, but this time he picked one of them, careful not to touch the thorns and pluck the petals of the flower. But as he plucked a petal away, the atmosphere around him turned darker, but he stopped plucking as he noticed the change in scenery. The once clear sky was filled with dark clouds while the river was dark and the bodies of aquatic lives floated on the surface of the water.
He kept looking at the grass around him and wasn’t surprised when they also lost their color with the rest of the world, but yet the white roses still remained white and firm, it frightened him yet still fascinated him. He noticed the detached petals from the roses he had plucked from and wanted to touch them, but he couldn’t as the same boy had removed his hands from the petals.
“Don’t touch those petals, they are very dangerous like their thorns,” The boy warned him, as he watched the boy’s eyes trail to the petals as they grew into prickly poisonous thorns and swirled around the grassland and corrupted the other lives around him with thorns.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“What’s your name?” The surroundings had changed back to the flowing pages making staircases for them as their feet touched the pages, and they burned as they were touched in the process. The two boys walked down until they reached the last paper, as the remaining papers burned in the process and both of them reached the bottom of the room.
The bottom of the surface shattered into pieces as Drake fell into a dark abyss, but there was no sight of the brown-haired boy but an elderly woman holding a weapon similar to his and aimed at his legs and fired, leaving him to cry in pain.
