It was bright and warm outside. The afternoon sunlight filtered through the trees and the shrubbery scattered about the neighborhood, casting abstract wiggly shadows on the pavement every time a gust of wind blows through.
Kelsi squinted her eyes as she walked beside Aki towards the big two-story duplex, which was basically two houses attached next to each other. It was very contemporary — cream, gray, and black panels along with big open windows. Right in the center, separated by a thick wall, were two narrow tall windows that spanned the first and second floors, revealing the stairway inside each unit.
“Which one are we going to?” Kelsi wondered as they approached.
“The left one, HQ,” Aki replied. “The right unit is the boss’s living quarters.”
