(Eleanor pov)
I looked up towards the exposed wood beams on the ceiling as the sun was now rising and lighting the room with a pink hue. I knew that meant it was time to get up and start our day. I rolled over, glancing across the room at the seven other small cots that were shoved into our living quarters.
Suddenly Helen walked in, flipping on the light switch as multiple groans echoed off the basement walls.
"Rise and shine everybody, let's get to it," Helen said with a wide grin.
Morning people...I swear they had to be clinically insane. It's 4 am and Helen acts like she is rearing to go.
I studied her appearance, flawless as usual. Her dark hair was up in a tight bun with her mocha skin practically glowing. She had kind honey-brown eyes and a small petite figure. She looked absolutely amazing for being in her early forties. Head omegas always wore a black dress shirt and skirt with stockings.
I wore a dark blue uniform and the ranks below me wore light blue. But honestly when I say ranks that really means nothing at all considering it gives us no authority out of these four walls.
Helen walked over towards me gingerly, causing me to groan once more and slide the pillow over my head.
"Come on buttercup, time to wake up." She sang in a cheerful tone and yanked the pillow off of me. I couldn't help but narrow my eyes and glare at her.
"What is in that coffee mug?" I asked, eyeing her cup suspiciously.
"Pure energy and the will to live. Now get your ass up, you're handling the young Alpha's breakfast this morning." She said cheerfully making me groan louder and roll over once more.
"Must I? You know he is just going to complain about anything I give him and send it back immediately." I said, feeling annoyed already.
"It's your turn this week sunshine, you know the rules." She winked at me and yanked my blankets off, making the cool air rush over me and causing me to yelp.
You'd think it would be scorching hot in here for being mid-June but the fact that we lived in the basement had its positives and negatives..especially in the winter. One positive though was that we kind of were forgotten down here, plus we could talk as loud as we wanted considering no one can hear us beneath the thick cement floor.
I moved my legs to the side of the bed and slowly rose..why did I feel like an eighty-year-old woman that has been bedridden for weeks? I slowly began to stretch, causing my sleep shirt to rise above my midriff. I looked across the room, noticing Zack, who I had known since I was ten, eyeing me carefully. I quickly turned around, cleared my throat, and made my bed.
"Hey Elle, what shift did you get stuck with?" Zack asked, walking towards the other side of my bed, and tucked the comforter under the mattress in for me. I couldn't help but smile softly at his kind gesture.
Zack was about 5'8 and had light brown hair. His eyes were a soft green and his skin a golden tan. He was definitely handsome to say the least..whenever he smiled two dimples would appear on either side of his cheeks, causing my own smile to grow.
I might have had a teeny tiny crush on Zack..okay, it was huge. I was secretly hoping in three days I would find out he was my mate. I wasn't sure how he felt about it all, since he was two years older than me, but he was always so kind and gentle with me. For all I know he might only see me as a sister figure.
Oh goddess..please don't let that be the case...
"I will be handling the little angel this week..lucky me." I said with a forced smile as Zack frowned.
"We can switch if you like." He offered, making me flutter my eyes with surprise. My cheeks grew warm as his green eyes looked at me intently.
I cleared my throat, shaking my head as I looked down, smoothing down the blankets.
"No, that's not fair, I will just suck it up like the rest of us." I smiled genuinely now, looking over at the manual clock on the wall.
Shit, it was already 4:30 am...I've gotta get ready.
"We better get in line for the shower before we run out of hot water." I said quickly, glancing back towards the hallway that led to our small living quarters. We had a tiny kitchen area and besides that was a room with a shower and toilet. That was it..we spent most of our time working and when we do get some rare downtime or the chance to eat, it has to be down here.
Suddenly Zack glanced towards the bathroom and saw the line growing. Turning towards me he smirked mischievously and raised his eyebrows. Before I knew it he took off, racing me towards the line as I didn't react fast enough. He obviously would of beat me either way considering he already had his wolf Zane..that alone made him faster.
"No fair." I said, running up behind him and frowning.
He looked down at my small 5'2" frame, patting my head as he smiled.
"Okay Elle, you can cut, only because you got the shitty shift this week." He added, reaching his hands out and gripping my shoulders gently. The action caused butterflies to explode in my stomach as he turned me around, placing me in front of him.
"Thanks, Zack, I owe you one." I said with a smile and he grinned from ear to ear. His dimples became more prominent than ever as I fought the urge to giggle..why was he so dang cute?
We usually only took ten-minute showers max, the faster the better as we had to keep the line moving. When it was my turn I knew that there would be little to no hot water left so I quickly jumped in, wanting to leave some for Zack. I hastily washed my brown hair and scrubbed my body. We only got to shower a few times a week so we made the most of it and tried not to complain about how long people were taking. After rinsing my hair I quickly grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my waist.
I walked over to the lockers in the bathroom where we kept our uniforms. Finding my small cubby, I swiftly slipped on my black bra, panties, and stockings, then promptly put on my blue long-sleeve work shirt and black skirt. Examining myself in the mirror I noted how my top was already getting tighter in the bust area. I had really grown into some curves recently and I felt totally out of my wheelhouse. I had to be in a c-cup now, not to mention my almost too-thin waist and curvier hips. I tried to imagine what my body would be like if I actually got a healthy amount of food in me, rather than the bare minimum. It was weird seeing an hourglass figure on my body though..it would take some getting used to.
I tugged the door open to find Zack leaning against the door frame with a smirk.
"That's a new record, Elle." He laughed and I beamed back, walking past him to do my hair.
"Better hurry! I tried to save some hot water for you." I quipped, walking away as I heard the door close behind me.
One thing Alpha Richard demanded was for us to look well-put-together and professional. One button out of place and you would be punished. He loved to decide all the punishments the omegas received personally. And let me tell you...after getting a few rounds of lashings, let's just say you learn quickly around here.
I went to my bed and pulled out a small metal basket from underneath. This was everything I owned, which consisted of a hairbrush, toothbrush, hair ties, Bobby pins, and a necklace my mom gave me. It had a small little golden crescent moon on it. I never wore it, for fear of someone wanting to take it, but just keeping it close under my bed was enough for me.
I ran to a little standing mirror we had, seeing my bright turquoise eyes sparkle as I quickly brushed my hair, fighting for room around the other girls that were also getting ready.
"Good luck with the little prick Elle.." My friend Lucy laughed. Lucy was a redheaded firecracker..she struggled to listen to rules and had seen more lashings than most of us combined. She was twenty-four years old and hadn't found her mate yet either, like most of the Omegas in Blood Moon.
She was one of the few unmated she-wolves that Alpha Richard seemed to find interest in. I tried to stay as far away from the Alpha as possible, knowing it was trouble. But Lucy was the opposite, she thought of it as a game and loved when she would be called to his room. The thought of being alone with the guy made a chill run through me.
It wasn't that Alpha Richard was ugly or anything..well looks wise, personality wise he was disgusting.
Alpha Richard had salt and pepper hair, he was in his late thirties and had fair skin. He had a square masculine jaw with broad shoulders. I could see his appeal..it was just his horrible personality that put me off completely.
