Chapter three

1580 Words
Addison’s POV   The following day I was awoken by my alarm. I groaned and turned over to shut it off when I rolled a little too far and ended up falling down my bed with a squeal, a thing that happened a little too often for my liking.  “And good morning to me,” I sighed before gathering my strength to get up.  I combed my hair and went to grab my oil when I noticed that I was out. I decided to go ask if my mom had any left seeing as I got my curls from her.  “Mom?” I asked through the kitchen. “Mom!” I yelled. “Mom and dad aren’t here,” Damien’s voice echoed from behind.  "Can you stop with the sneaking up on people?" I snapped, putting my hand over my now pounding heart.  "Now, where would the fun be in that?" he asked with a smirk.  "i***t," I mumbled just low enough for it to go unheard by him. “Where are they?” I asked. “They are at Uncle Dario’s club, helping him with the last of the stuff,” he shrugged.  “Great, I’m stuck with you then,” I mumbled again so low that he couldn’t hear me. Or at least that was what I thought.  “What did you just say?” he asked as he got closer to me.  “Well, if you wanted to know you should have listened the first time,” I shrugged. “Don’t go all smart on me now Addison,” he snapped. “I heard exactly what you said and just because of that, you can now walk your sorry ass to school,” he huffed before walking away.  “Fine,” I yelled after him.  This was really not the way I wanted to start my morning, but what did I even expect. I knew that with Uncle Dario’s new project and the fact that it was opening night, they would help out like they always did and that it would leave me with my demon brother.  I ended up braiding my hair seeing as I was already running a little late, especially if I had to walk all the way there, and being late was not an option for me when it came to my teacher Mrs. Cobberman. She was a work of art or more like the work of the devil. How she ever became a teacher I had no idea.  I looked myself in the mirror before I grabbed my bag, my phone and heading to the door. I had only made it two steps outside when I realized that it was raining, so I had to go back in to get an umbrella.  “What are you still doing here?” Damien asked annoyed as he was walking down the stairs.  “Just getting this,” I simply answered.  “Oh, so it is raining?” he laughed. “Well, if you apologize, I will consider driving you,” he smirked. “Make it a good one though I dont do much for fake apologies.” “Why would I apologize? This is exactly why I said what I said, besides you couldn’t care less so I just think I will walk,” I said before walking off. "And all I can give you if I were to give you one, would be a fake one." “Don’t be ridiculous now Addy,” he yelled after me.  “You don’t get to call me that anymore,” I yelled back and saw the look on his face just as the door slammed.  I tried my absolute best to hide the hurt in my voice, but I failed a little at the end even though it didn’t matter. There was no way that he would notice that anyway.    Damien was the one to give me that nickname when we were younger and only the ones close to me got to call me by that name. It was a rule he had made after he gave it to me and now a rule I took into use.   I opened the umbrella and sighed before I walked out into the heavy rain. I didn’t know what it was but the sound of the raindrops hitting the fabric of the umbrella, made me relax.  I followed the road I had walked so many times before. The only difference was that I normally didn’t walk it alone, I would either have Gabby or Damien with me, but there was no way in hell I would drag my best friend out in this weather when she could get a ride from Chad.   My negative thoughts were soon distracted as I watched how the rain fell to the ground. How the drops hit the ground beneath me or any of the surfaces around me and bounced back slightly before laying still.  “Well at least it’s not thundering,” I said to myself.  “Oh, it may not now, but it will later,” a voice behind me said.    I turned around shocked, ready to scold whoever snuck up on me, but instead, no words came to my mind as I saw the person in front of me.  “I’m sorry if I startled you,” he apologized.  “It’s okay,” I reassured him. “I’m a little jumpy when I walk alone,” I said with a chuckle trying to release the sudden tension in my chest.  I had never seen him before, and yet again he looked so very familiar. He was tall. Probably around 6 feet, 3 inches. I had to almost bend my neck in a weird way to be able to look at him from under the umbrella. His dark hair was nicely sat but that didn’t refrain his curls from bouncing when he moved his head.  And his eyes…  “Why are you walking here in the rain all alone?” he asked snapping me out of my thoughts.  “That’s a long story,” I chuckled. “What about you?” I asked.  “On my way to school,” he smiled. “Car broke down, so I had to use the legs I was given at birth,” he shrugged.  “s**t, school!” I cursed suddenly aware of the fact that I was going to be late if I didn’t hurry up. “Oh my god sorry,” I laughed as I noticed his startled expression.  “It’s fine!” he assured me. “Can I walk with you?” he asked with a shy smile.  Dear God, take me now, I thought to myself and tried to ignore the blush creeping in.  “Sure,” I smiled and began to walk.  “I’m Mika by the way,” he said looking at me. “Mika Hardin.” “It’s nice to meet you,” I smiled. “I’m Addison.” “Just Addison?” he chuckled.  “I prefer to keep my last name hidden until I know you a little better,” I shrugged.  “Oh, so you are determined to get to know me?” he smirked, and I suddenly realized what I had said.  The blush that I somehow managed to avoid before, was now inevitable. My face flushed bright red and I looked to the road in embarrassment.  “Hey there is no need to be embarrassed,” he chuckled. “If it helps, I wouldn’t mind getting to know you better either,” he said. “It’s not every day that you scare the s**t out of a girl walking alone in the rain without getting punched in the face,” he pointed out and I couldn’t help but laugh.  “That is very true,” I laughed. “But just to make things clear, if I had punched you, you would be going to the hospital instead of school.” “That strong, huh?”  “I’m like the Hulk,” I said as I flexed the muscles I did not have. “In a girl version, you know.”  “And you got humor too,” he laughed. “I think I’m going to like you, Addison who keeps her name hidden,” he said and for some reason, I couldn’t help but to smile.  “Addison!” the familiar voice belonging to no other than Gabby yelled.  It was then I noticed that we had arrived at my school and that Gabby per usual was standing on the stairs, waving at me like a maniac.  “I’ll be there in a second!” I yelled back as I noticed her making her way to me. “Someone you know?” he grinned.  “My best friend,” I chuckled. “Thank you for walking with me,” I said.  “You’re welcome,” he smiled. “Hand me your phone.” “Oh, okay,” I said and did as he asked.  He fiddled around with it before handing it back.  “Now we at least have the chance to get to know each other,” he smiled. “See you, Addison.” God the way he said my name was mesmerizing.  I stood there dumbfounded for a minute before I walked towards the entrance.  “What was that?” Gabby asked when I reached her. “Or more like, who was that?” “That? That was Mika.”
