In a moment’s remorse and regret, Agnes slapped herself on the face.
"Ouch."
She slapped herself too hard, and now she was having a splitting headache and felt very dizzy.
Agnes almost fainted on the spot.
Ryan frowned and grabbed her arm, asking coldly: "What are you doing?"
"I was wrong." With tears in her eyes, Agnes looked up at Ryan pitifully and said, "Dear Ryan, forgive me, please."
A shiver ran through Ryan, and his pupils suddenly contracted from excitement. He could hardly believe his ears.
Agnes hadn’t addressed him as "dear Ryan" since she fell in love with Malcom at the age of 15.
He gazed at Agnes intently and approached her with heavy steps.
"What did you call me?"
"Dear Ryan." Agnes couldn’t help sniffing. Tears began to run down her cheeks.
In the previous life, Ryan had given eveything to love her and protect her, but she cast him aside. Agnes wanted to kill herself at the thought of this.
She gently touched his arm and tried to appease him tentatively.
"I'm sorry for what I’ve done."
There were mixed feelings in Ryan’s dark eyes. He pushed aside Agnes' hand, took out a cigarette but didn’t light it. He shot a glance at her.
Agens looked at her hand dejectedly.
"You must hate me for what I've done."
"Huh!” He sneered, "Do you care about how I feel?"
Agnes was in dumb silence.
In her previous life, she didn't care a straw about Ryan’s feelings and did many things to hurt him.
"I'm sorry."
At the moment, Agnes didn’t know what else to say except to apologize.
"I really know I was wrong. I swear I won't do this ever again. Could you..."
Agnes paused. She knew she didn’t deserve what she was about to ask.
"Could I do what?" Ryan asked coldly. He made no attempt to hide the sarcasm in his eyes.
Agnes swallowed hard. She fidgeted with her fingers, and pleaded: "Could you not blame this on Gilbert Group?"
Ryan gazed at her coldly and said nothing in reply.
Agnes bit her lips: "As long as you leave Gilbert Group untouched, you can do whatever you want with me."
Ryan narrowed his eyes and looked at her intently.
She bent her head and hid her face from his gaze.
This was the first time she had been so docile since five years ago.
"Are you sure I can do whatever I want?" Ryan asked doubtfully and with sarcasm.
Agnes summoned up the courage to look up at him and nodded.
Ryan suddenly stood up, his tall frame covering hers.
"How about this?"
His body pressed closer and closer against hers, and stopped when there was less than three centimeters between them.
He was so close that Agnes subconsciously closed her eyes under the pressure, her hands clutching the bed sheet tightly.
Agnes could feel his hot breath on her cheeks, and frowned uneasily.
She had been experiencing a splitting headache. And now the strong smell of tobacco made her feel sick.
She pushed against Ryan's chest and frowned at him.
"Can you brush your teeth and take a shower first?"
"Eh?" Ryan was in a daze.
Agnes pointed at her head wrapped like a mummy, and gave an awkward smile: "The tobacco is making me sick."
She wanted to say “throw up”, but seeing Ryan’s grim expression, Agnes didn’t venture that far.
After giving a cowardly sniffle, she wrapped her arms around his waist. Pressing her cheeks against his chest, again she tried to appease him.
"Dear Ryan, I've figured it out. I won't do this again, I promise."
Ryan doubted that Agnes would change so much overnight. He knew that this could be a trick of hers, but still he couldn’t push her away.
This was the first time she had embraced him. He loved this intimacy even if it was faked.
"You’ve been so good to me, and I shouldn't have hurt you. Mr Jenkins has also been very kind to me, but I made him angry and he almost... I’m so glad the operation went well. If anything should happen to him, I would never forgive myself for the rest of my life. "
Tears ran down her cheeks, and her fists were unconsciously clenched. Agnes felt both regretful and glad.
She regretted what she have done in her previous life, and she felt glad she had a chance to make it up.
Ryan looked down, gazing at the little head buried in his arms.
The bloodstained bandages reminded him how she almost died.
He said impatiently: "If you have anything to ask, just out with it."
Agnes felt very guilty and said gravely: "As long as you promise not to damage Gilbert Group, you can do anything you want with me."
Ryan gazed at Agnes intently.
Knowing that it was impossible, he couldn’t help asking her word by word: "Even if I ask you to marry me?"
Agnes nodded without hesitation: "Yes! But... Ouch."
Ryan was just beginning to see hope when he heard “but”. Wryness took the place of hope.
Everything has a “but”.
Agnes bent her head and muttered under her breath: "But I've done so many bad things to embarrass your family, and now Mr Jenkins is in ICU because of me. Will your family still accept my as your wife?"
Ryan breathed a sigh of relief, and his face was less grim.
"Come with me to visit my parents tomorrow."
Leaving these words behind him, Ryan turned back and left.
Gazing at Ryan's back, Agnes still felt restless.
In the previous life, Jenkins Group destroyed Gilbert Group in just three months, putting an end to her parents’ half life's hard work.
It would be hard to win the approval of Ryan’s family.
